Dancing Goths From 1984: Those Were The Days

Submitted by: cleanergirl 5 years ago in Funny

In the "80s, goth dancing was mostly flapping & stomping like a chicken. No weirder than what passes for dancing now.

@DrProfessor, the Cult were played at loads of goth nights in the 80`s (in the UK), although it was a bit at the rock end of things, and since Goth pretty much came out of punk originally you gotta expect a bit of crossover. Enough talking about the past tho lets just go to a gig somewhere and see something new.

Oh ffs. goth came out of many things that were stirring in the late 70s. bauhaus. siouxsie atb. The cure like the banshees, like mosy groups worth listening too are too diverse to confine to a narrow genre.
Sisters of mercy, arguably the flag bearer of industrial goth rock crackled into life with "damage done" in 1980. The two stepping skinny black army were firmly in force by the black october tour of 1984
So if you werent there..or you were too busy whacking off to U2. Stfu!

That was the beginning of Goth. It was called Death Punk, obviously it was an offshoot of the Punk scene.

Too long... but brought back memories. The good old two step, Hard Rock hairspray and Diamond White by the pint (ugh).

I remember clearly f*cking the two step up good and proper in the "Hope and Grope", wearing a long duster and caught my foot in the coat as I went backwards, did a full backwards roll and exited the dance floor stage right...

Yes as others have mentioned goth was not even a concept yet in 84. Punk however was at it`s peak as far as I am concerned. The mohawks and UK Decay as well as all that leather should be an indicator this is punk.

My dear American friends, those are not Goths. That`s either New Wave or Post-Punk.
