Again, Cali? You're worse than New York cops. Is it because NYPD is used to this sort of stuff and Cali cops aren't?

@illios - and anyone else who is saying the cops are doing their job...
The First Amendment (Amendment I) to the United States Constitution is part of the Bill of Rights. The amendment prohibits the making of any law respecting an establishment of religion, impeding the free exercise of religion, abridging the freedom of speech, infringing on the freedom of the press, interfering with the right to peaceably assemble or prohibiting the petitioning for a governmental redress of grievances.

That is the first amendment to the constitution of the United States of America. Refer to the section that states the amendment prohibiting the `right to peacefully assemble`.
The cops are not doing their job - which is to protect and serve the people. Strangely, on a cop`s salary, I would expect them to cross the line and support those peacefully assembling to speak their grievances to a corrupt and greed driven government.

@Squrlz4Sale - Protesting or not, the police were asked to have them moved, they told them to do so, did the protesters move? Of course not, Peacefuly or not, NOT complying with the police given orders is now against the law, if asked and the request is refused, they are then cleared to use a manner of force....It`s not a moral or judgement kind of deal, it`s a lawful one.

if you want to talk thought processes here, think about this, you are told to move and you refuse, a man walks up infront of you showing off some mace, and you decide to "hold your ground" who`s fault is it when your sprayed in the face moments later? Answer? Both, difference? one is doing their job, the other is refusing and obviously expecting nothing to go wrong with that.

@Fleaman1797 : I was actually making a point for OWS... Having to be rich or indebted to get a good education & healthcare isn`t right. If any country in Europe used so much money for their army while having such a tiny budget for the health & education of their own citizen you would have riots all over the places...

@Illios: I have no problem with cops doing their job. In fact, I`m grateful for them doing their job.

What I have a problem with is cops spraying bear spray at point-blank range in the eyes and even down the throats of college kids who were peacefully sitting on a sidewalk in the center of a university campus. Several of these kids were coughing up blood 45 minutes later and taken to the hospital. The university itself has called for an investigation of the police`s handling of the event.

Wiser, more magnanimous cops would`ve shrugged and said, "Hell, if the students wanna get all political and sit on their sidewalk, let them. They`ll get it out of their systems and they aren`t harming anything." Instead, Chubby McSWAT-Outfit reached for the bear spray.

You can defend that as good policing. Personally, I find it inept and more than a little stupid.

@Cityncolour: Amen, brother. I`m with you 100%.

I`ve also been surprised at the amount of ignorance I`ve seen among the IABers. I have a strong suspicion that we`re reading the comments of a lot of high school and college dropouts. That sounds dismissive, I know, but whether someone has gotten a degree or not is a pretty reliable indicator as to whether or not they`ve read Thoreau`s *On Civil Disobedience* and have a clue as to what the differences are among communism, socialism, democracy, and fascism; and whether they have any knowledge of Gandhi, the American Civil Rights Movement, the Vietnam War protests, and what happened at Kent State.

Bottom line: A high percentage of IAB right-wingers seem to be undereducated and pumped full of FOX News propaganda.

How many more videos of the same crap are going to be posted? Enough of this "cops sprays innocent OWS" BS...They were warned, they were told to move, they refused, falls under failure to comply, they got what THEY KNEW was coming.

Tired of seeing the SAME videos over and over.

Funny how they could simply take them one after the other, and make them leave, or arrest them one after the other, since they are actually not confronting them. The usual way to stop that kind of movement is by calmly asking them if they want to get arrested, and if they do, to arrest them. If they don`t, they disperse. No harsh voice, no attack, no pepper spray, just plain and civilized ways. And believe me, most of them would get arrested for their beliefs, police would`ve done their job, protesters would`ve done their jobs, and no one would be unhappy. The end.

Besides, even the university, on which terrain they were actually located, told press and media they found this unacceptable.

The Officer peper spraying those peaceful protesters is LT. JOHN PIKE of the Davis police department. Here`s his email so you can let him know how you feel:

[email protected]

Or you can call the UCD police department and let them know what should be done with him.

530 752 1727

Don`t forget Police chief ANNETTE SPICUZZA, who later congratulated Lt. Pike, when you are making your call.

Repost this information where ever you can. These criminals must be brought down!

People that think the police action is ok should move to China where the laws & police are more to their liking. The cops that did the pepper spraying should be arrested and prosecuted for assault. Plain and simple. They`re reviewing video now to see who did it. Why? Every damn cop there knows who did it. Prosecute them all for obstruction of justice. See www.prairiefirenews.com for more

@5Cats: I watched from the six-minute mark on. Far from seeing the demonstrators throw anything, as you state, INSTEAD I saw the students show tremendous restraint by giving the police an exit and chanting, "You can go! You can go!" Even after being pepper-sprayed at pointblank range, these students remained non-confrontational.

So good try, 5Cats, but... no.

As has been stated elsewhere: When citizens in Egypt or Libya protest against a corrupt government, we in America applaud them and call them feedom fighters. When it happens here, we call them hippies, lazy and bums.
Whatever.
It is quoted by authorities that police utilized their pepper spray after being surrounded by the `mob`. Why then, was the pepper spray not used to clear a path or opening? I guess that frightening, motionless group of unarmed students who lacked combat training had those poor, poor cops wetting their pants- I hope they weren`t traumatized.

No. What`s disgusting is that there are still people like you who are too fuggin` stupid to realize what we mean by the 1%. Just because we have money and good education doesn`t mean we have the power to buy off our politicians. People like you deserve nothing but a good ass-raping from a lobbyist.

How is it corporations have speech rights and can spend unlimited money buying politicians BUT if your an actual human-being your less of a person? Because if you actually use your speech, NOT MONEY, you get [email protected] pepper sprayed in the face.

An 84-year old women was recently pepper sprayed at an occupy rally.

How can so many of you say they deserved it for breaking the law. Maybe your right, maybe the protesters don`t have the right to be doing what they are doing, BUT neither did the people that participated in the Boston tea party. For years the politicians and corporations have abused us and ignored our voices. We have tried to be heard but just like the Boston tea party we must revert to extreme measures. This is just the beginning.

The people saying to follow everything the police say are idiots. The police force doesn`t care about you, the higher ranks don`t care about lowly peasants. They blindly follow what the government tells them to enforce. Guess who runs the Government? The Corporations. The police force is simply a more physical extension of the corporations, disguised as a public service.

Not that all cops are bad people mind you, they`re just doing they`re job, which is to follow orders. You just have to realize where those orders are coming from.

I`m just wondering when people are going to realize that the statutes of "peaceful protest" were in place as long as the governments held up their end of the bargain. They have not recognized our rights, I believe that means we have a responsibility to throw that faulty government over. Peaceful protest ended when blood was drawn. When do we start the real protests? Someone needs to put the pigs back in their pens.

It`s hard to tell from this clip but it looks like from the way the guy presented the pepper spray before using it there might have been a warning given ahead of time. Seems likely they were asked to move before force was used, but again it`s not conclusive from this clips editing.

3Punks, you`re right. I can`t believe we live in a civilized nation where we let child-like behavior to run the roost. The problem is, we`ve been catering to these idiot protesters long enough. Obviously the video is quite disturbing to the fact that the pepper spray used was not anywhere near strong enough to do the job. Seriously folks, our tax dollars need to go to buying much better quality and stronger pepper spray to use on these idiots. Maybe, just MAYBE, they`ll get the message and start learning how to live in an actual, civilized society where they don`t defecate in the streets, push old women down stairs, block roads with their stupid chants, have drum-circles while they deal drugs from their camps, etc.

So does that mean you should follow blindly, like lemurs off of a cliff? Federal judges have already ruled regarding the right to occupy public spaces, specifically, OWS groups around the country. NYPD violated a court order allowing them back into the park. All charges against those here in Nashville were dropped. The judge refused to even sign the warrants. Something is wrong when billionaires are allowed to ignore the laws as they see fit, unleashing armed police officers on peaceful people exercising their Constitutional rights.
