Oh and what a challenge it is! Are you smarter than an Evangelist?

Wow.

His whole philosophy is "anything I don`t understand is evidence of my particular God", and boy howdy is there a heck of a lot that this guy doesn`t know.

I cracked up laughing when he said nobody knows where wind comes from. Wind! Ugh! Then he just kept piling up more and more ignorance on top of that.

Really, the LAST thing this guy should be doing is challenging anyone to a debate.

"Ignorance = God", nice argument. <eyeroll>

"What came before the big bang?"

Nothing. Certainly not god. That would be impossible as he was invented 13.75 billion years later.

Note also that while we may disagree about the existence of god, we do not disagree that it was the beginning of everything. The Big Bang was first proposed by a Catholic priest and has been accepted by the Catholic Church as the start of the universe since Pius XII accepted it in 1951.

wind is movement of air, which happens when different regions of the globe have different atmospheric pressures, mainly due to heat or lack of heat.
Electricity happens when the electrons move, they move because the charge of something has changed (usually due to magnetic fields)
And yes, we did have to do research to figure out that it moves, since no, you cant actually see electrons with the naked eye.

What created the big bang? We dont know. For all we know, maybe the universe has always existed, and the big bang wasnt the first thing that happened in it, maybe its always existed.
Opposing theory to "the universe always existed" is: Something must have created it, it cant always have existed. God created it. God has always existed.
Which isnt really a response at all, it just pushes the question back further.

We should tell the ignorant masses how to run their lives. I`ve believe that all people should be treated as equals but I learned it in church so I guess it isn`t politically valid. "

I`m not advocating for authoritarian rule at all. But when someone`s beliefs harm other people because they are turning their religious beliefs into law (most people would say they don`t want the US run by Sharia law, right? it`s essentially the same thing) then there`s nothing wrong with people trying to change their views. Just because their views stem from religion doesn`t mean they are exempt from people challenging those views.

Can you use logic and reason to explain why people should be treated equally? I`m sure you can. I`m sure you don`t do it just because a book told you to.

This is soooo stupid.
He more or less claims that because he is not able to understand things there must be a god (and off course god is the god he is worshipping).
And to answer the question what came before the Big Bang..... There is no before or after, everything exists simultaneously. It is only our perception that makes it look like things happen in a certain order.

Who ever said the Big Bang was caused by matter and anti-matter coming together?? I thought it was simply all the matter in the universe compacted into one spot which then exploded. This guy is basing his challenge on things he doesn`t even understand enough to explain adequately.

I`m tired of the argument between faith and science. Those who require proof of everything before they believe in it will never convince those who need some higher power to give their life meaning, and vice versa. It`s a waste of time.

Also, I`m tired of this twitter "@" thing everywhere. The only thing that talks AT me is the television. Otherwise you`re talking TO me.

"It would be called catching fish, not fishing?"

Wind comes from pressure and temperature differences, and is very well understood. Scientists can explain wind.

The flow of electricity is a very well understood science, but not my me. I can`t tell you why it happens, but science can, and does.

Atheists don`t challenge Wiccans or Satanists because Wiccans and Satanists don`t shove their believes down our thoughts every day, or require that their religion be used to make laws.

As far as "what came before the Big Bang?" Well, we don`t know, yet, what came before the Big Bang. But, you don`t know what came before God, either. Both creation theories have a start--the big bang, or "Let there be light." Neither theory knows what came before that. Science can`t say what came before the big bang, and Christians can`t say what came before God.

Finally, as for order, no matter what you believe, science rules today. Sc

Wind blows because warm air rises, and something has to take it`s place, so it moves across ground to fill the gap.

Electricity is the FLOW of electrons, not a different thing.

Giant ice cube would have been a comet that crashed and made the hole it was in.

Actually I`m just going to give up now. He`s thinking too big. I think it`s more amazing that lightning hit mud and made life, then it happened again, then an archea ate a bacterium and made a completely different form of life, then later on when it was a sand worm it`s genome quadrupled and gave the world everything else.

Effin` magnets! How do they work?

But even without starting to refute his kindergarten logic: as an atheist, I won`t accept this challenge, because the burden of proof doesn`t lie with atheists, but with theists.

If a theist will give me proof of the existence of a celestial being that governs our actions, I`ll acknowledge it. But until that time, I find the existence of (a) God(s) highly improbable and unbelievable.

@draculya, but it is unreasonable to assume that a few people who acted in a certain way reflect the entire religion throughout its existence. This wasn`t put here for actual debate, but in order to demean and defame religiosity as a whole, of which you have many reasons to do so. However,to equate all religions is a major error, and to assume you understand everything about them is entirely presumptuous. If indeed a person were doing the teachings of say, Judaism, in the name of their God, then proselytism is not done frequently nor ever by the sword. If Christianity, then the only precedent and teaching for proselytism is by preaching and personal conversation/individual visions. My problem is that THIS is the video that was posted, my issue with it being, a.this guy has many inaccurate thoughts and didn`t put a lot of effort/research into it, and b.his presentation makes him seem unintelligent(repeating phrases, working around the point, etc.)

Only insofar as Proselytism at the point of the sword is explicitly required of all adherents in the teachings of Christianity, Islam and Judaism.

It`s not unreasonable to argue that what people do in the name of a religion according to the teachings of a religion reflects on that religion.

You have cut yourself short. I understand you`re bringing up the discussion of servile and sexual slavery permitted/encouraged under the teachings of Deuteronomy, Leviticus, Exodus, Ephesians, Luke`s gospel, First Epistle of Peter & the Epistle to Philemon. No doubt you`re also referring to how these teachings were used to justify and prolong the use of slavery by your country.

Thankfully you are from a progressive sect that picks and chooses the convenient parts of the bible, discarding the rubbish. The ultimate progression is to use it for fuel.

I actually watched the whole thing, because I do genuinely want to understand the religious mindset. And for those who say "Why do you care? What impact does a person`s religious belief have on your life?", I`m thinking things like discrimination against homosexuals, abortion laws, mass shootings in Norway etc, and people flying planes into buildings. This affects me, and people around me, so I think it`s important to try to understand where they`re coming from.

Having said all that, I was onboard (tried, I promise) up to the point where he said he used to be a Satanist (and not the first time I`ve heard this from a Christian Evangelist.)

Forgive me, but surely a Satanist is someone who decided to follow/worship Skeletor rather than He-Man. To me, it`s all equally bullwank fiction.

On topic: as Aldous Huxley said: "Facts do not cease to exist because they are ignored."

Once again, your assumptions and conclusions about Christianity are unfounded.

You mention "the Church," which is used commonly to refer to the Catholic church. I`ll assume it is this denomination of Christianity you`re talking about.

You claim the Church (The Catholic Church) argues that "every word within [the Bible] is supposed to be absolutely true."

No, it doesn`t. That would be fundamentalist Christians. When you say "the Church," it appears as though you are talking about the Catholic Church. Catholicism does not believe in creationism and in fact acknowledges that evolution is a possibility, a scientific theory that does not in any way disprove God`s existence.

According to the Church, the Bible must be interpreted. Some parts, for example, that there was a figure in history named Jesus who was killled on a cross, are historical fact and must be interpreted literally. Others should not be int

There is a correlation between ignorance and theism? It`s ironic that, as fundamentalists make unsound, ignorant, sweeping generalizations against atheists like yourself, you, an "enlightened" atheist, generalize theists as stupid.

Your final comment, criticizing Christianity and Islam, indicts the Christian and Muslim religions as bad because of examples of "shoving down other people`s throats." Indeed, many so-called Christians and Muslims have attempted to shove their religions down unwilling throats. You conclude from these examples that the entire religions are bad.

@Scuzoid "All evidence points to a lack of a creator."

You`ve got that a bit backwards. The burden of proof is on the party making the claim for something. As such, it`s not that I have proof that _no_ god(s) exist, rather everyone who has made a claim regarding their god(s) existence, have thus far failed to provide evidence to support their claims.

I don`t believe LillianDulci is advocating "authoritarian rule". Quite the contrary. If I understand her correctly, she`s simply stating that if the Jew`s were to advocate a law prohibiting the consumption of pork and the only justification was `god said it was an abomination`, then the rest of society would be in the right to refuse their request. If on the other hand, they took their commandment from their god and sought valid reasons which any non-Jew would able to verify for themselves (eg. it eats all manner of filth and is frequently diseased), then they`d actually have a case for outlawing such a product. That having been said, since there isn`t any law requiring everyone to eat pork, the Jews would be within their rights to not eat it, while everyone else can still enjoy it if they so chose.

Does that make more sense?

@Kilgore89, while I am pleased with your tolerance and openness to the truth, you came unstuck the moment you said you still believe in god.

You are also not a Christian by the definition of the church. Don`t worry, that definition has a circular flaw.

The church is adamant that its book is the one completely true word of god. Every word within it is supposed to be absolutely true, even when there is definitive proof that contradicts any one of the descriptions therein. That`s why the church fights so hard in lost battles like creation and incest.

If mankind is willing to consider that some of the bible is not the true word of god then man gets to pick and choose what to believe in and the religion collapses like a house of cards.

The bible we have now originates at the Council of Nicaea, when they did just that, eliminating anything that was internally inconsistent or (at the time) demonstrably false.

I believe Lillian was saying the opposite of that. She says nobody, particularly a religious institution, should tell other people how to live and force them to live by their rules.

On the other hand, I would love it if religious people were like you, I really would... But I still can`t imagine how somebody who is so pro-science and understands how science works (Assuming you know how it works and you aren`t just accepting it without questioning it) could believe in a god... Or believe in anything, for that matter, for which there`s no good reason to believe other than "I like my belief" or "There has to"

I`m very very positivist, I could not believe in a god because there`s not evidence and no good reason. I do believe there`s intelligent life in other planets, but that`s because possibilities are HUGE when it comes to that. I think there`s a difference there

This is the UFO argument.

Yes, UFO`s exist.

When someone sees something that appears to be flying in the sky, it is an Unidentified Flying Object.

UFO <> alien spacecraft
UFO = Unidentified Flying Object

Unexplained phenomena, particularly phenomena that are unexplained by the least educated among us do not constitute proof positive of the Christian faith quashing overwhelming evidence to the contrary.

A "self proclaimed atheist" is someone who has realised that there never was a god, as opposed to someone who fervently believes in an imaginary friend but was told he doesn`t believe in quite the right flavour of imaginary friend as the imaginary friend club committee.

The only thing that Dippy Dennis the Devil worshiper`s video proves is that there is a correlation between ignorance and theism.

To answer his question, the reason why atheists spend more time debunking Christianity and Islam is Wikkans and Satanists don`t try to shove their religions down other people`s throats.

"Why do non-believers feel they are intellectually superior to those that don`t think as they do?"
Various reasons. Firstly, being an atheist doesn`t mean you get a certificate stating you feel you`re smarter than a theist, but the simplest explanation for those who do have that certificate is probably: All evidence points to a lack of a creator. Ignoring that evidence makes "you" dumb.

"If they are as superior as they see themselves, then why do they get so belligerent to those that believe? Why would they care?"
Again, numerous reasons. Theists are likely to have just as many reasons as to why they care about someone accepting "Christ" as their lord and savior. Simple quick explanation for the hostility and effort? If "I" don`t teach you, who will? If "I" don`t teach, how much damage can you do with your ignorance.

Pose some hard questions next time.

Fibonacci`s numbers were left languishing until the age of microcomputers. Batteries were discovered thousands of years ago and then forgotten about.

What we don`t know out weighs what we do know.

"Why do non-believers feel they are intellectually superior to those that don`t think as they do?"
Did you watch this video...?

"Whether you believe or don`t believe is of no consequence to me. "
That`s good for you. But people turning their religious views into laws negatively affects people who don`t believe the same. Once that stops happening, I`ll stop caring about what others believe.

His argument in a nutshell:
"What is the sound of one hand clapping?"
"Jury is out on that one."
"Since no one has the answer, God exists"

If ever in the world there is an unsolved mystery... God did it.

Why do non-believers feel they are intellectually superior to those that don`t think as they do?

If they are as superior as they see themselves, then why do they get so belligerent to those that believe? Why would they care?

Whether you believe or don`t believe is of no consequence to me.

He`s not very eloquent and he`s trying to explain some rather complicated science with acronyms that aren`t the best.

He`s asking about where did Earth`s water come from, no one knows.

He`s asking about where did Earth`s life come from, even scientists argue over that.

There are a lot inconsistencies and bizarre theories floating around trying to explain some of the most basic questions of life.

Most of mankind`s biggest discoveries have happened only by chance, sometimes mistakes.

An example, Carbon fiber and Carbon nanotubes have been in soot for hundreds and hundreds of years, It wasn`t until a scientist started looking for them were they found, Now carbon fibers are the hottest new material in industry.

Wow. All the things that `can`t be explained` - actually really only can`t be explained by people who are too ignorant to understand the existing valid explanation or embark upon a real attempt to uncover new information.
And that`s what theism is. Don`t think. Don`t question. It`s evil and wrong to even ask questions with the expectation of attaining answers.

I can`t even continue listening to this retard rant nonsense.

"it is suggested that the position is invalid because it arises from the church."

If the only thing you can use to back your opinion is "this holy book" or "this religious leader" told you that something is bad, then in a secular society, your opinion should be invalid. No one should have to live by the rules of your religion. However, my point was that, if people want to just be left alone to believe what they want, they need to keep their religious opinions out of politics. Until then, it`s more than fair game for atheists (or religious people who don`t use their religious texts to justify laws, etc) to try to prove the person is wrong, because their opinions greatly affect our lives.

That is to say that a government that rules over citizens of more than one belief should never justify action based on "the [book] says so". However, if at least 51% of voters in a democratic system believe that an action should be taken because "the [book] says so", it is completely legitimate.

If for example, a politician says "no gay marriage because that`s what the Bible says", that`s not politically acceptable. If however, a politician says "I won`t support gay marriage" and 51% of the voters believe gay marriage is immoral and therefore vote for the politician, that`s completely valid. It`s called tyranny of the majority and it`s a reality of democracy.

At least in the US, you guys have a directly elected leader who can veto stupid decisions.

Dude. The matter and anti-matter that caused the big bang have always been there, as matter can not be destroyed nor created. They collided most likely due to each other`s gravity attracting the other. Wind is the air moving from high density areas to low density areas. We haven`t yet discovered what electrons are made of because we can`t figure out how to see things that small. Electricity is created by positively charged electrons particles moving away from negatively charged ones because they are magnetically repelled from each other (has to do with the magnetic field). Animals know what to eat because they watch their parents, and if they don`t know what to eat, they die quickly and you don`t get to see them. And lastly, the universe is too chaos. No law of physics is definite. Also not all atheists are as sholes, just the same as not all Christians are as sholes. And atheists don`t bother satanists and wiccans because they don`t go around trying to guilt people into their religion

"A former priest of many years, that, with enough knowledge, realized his whole profession was a lie."

Which is his opinion and yours. Which of course you are entitled to and encouraged to promote as you see fit. I agree that church and state should be kept separate, but keep in mind that democracy allows people, regardless of their beliefs and positions to state their political opinions regardless of where the opinion comes from.

What always bugs me about the "keep it out of politics" argument is that it usually arises from an issue in which it is suggested that the position is invalid because it arises from the church. As far as I`m concerned, it doesn`t matter if my position comes from the church, fox news, the BBC, a science lab or a professor. My belief or opinion; right or wrong is what it is and should be democratically represented regardless of where it came from.

This is the curse of democracy. It`s not rule based on what is

That`d be all fine and dandy if people could keep their religion out of politics. Plus, maybe 1 video wont change someone`s opinion. But the more they hear the other side, the more likely that they`ll hear something that makes them start questioning, the more likely that they`ll at least change opinions on certain things, or even become an atheist. It`s not impossible. I`ve even watched videos of a former priest on youtube. A former priest of many years, that, with enough knowledge, realized his whole profession was a lie.

honestly, I could argue this guy all day, but he would only be ignorant to different ideas, religion is one big long going meme, and to him it is a meme to defend and die for, same for atheists, atheism is also large meme, which is also an idea to die for. Life memes is what makes cultures, and are just just internet fads, the definition of meme is something to be copied and reproduced. There are good memes and bad memes, and obviously bad memes are the ones that will kill themselves off if it is harmful to the organism.

tl;dr religion is a meme, people who believe will defend until death.
