Don`t forget the non-nice individuals. Nyc has plenty of them. They bump into you push you etc by accident and doesnt give a poo.

Three miles is a one hour stroll. OK, in a hot city it might be a drag but not a hardship if you are reasonably fit.

A strong black coffee, I`d rather that than tea.

Are you saying coffee makes you fat? Screw you guys, I`m going home, for another cup of joe.

Whiskey, vodka, or any other drinks cannot be looked at just at caloric value. Your body burns more calories metabolizing alcohol than it does a soda. Basically, it isn`t the liquor that makes you fat (unless you drink a lot of Baileys or other girly liqueurs), its the mixer that gets you.

>>>whiskey is only ~70 calories an ounce...calorie wise, the best thing you can drink is any unflavored, hard (~70 proof), liquor<<<

Or water but that takes the fun out of it.

uh I don`t know if I ever got winded walking, but I also don`t measure how far I`ve been walking. I just walk, also how many sodas do these people think the average person drinks in a day?

It`s not that you must walk that far with a can of soda, it`s that you CAN walk that far with only one can of soda. If you get fat you are just an overeating slob.

lol "It takes HOW many miles to walk off a 20 oz. bottle of soda?" If 3 miles is supposed to be a lot then some one has bigger problems than just drinking soda.

I used to drink pop almost exclusively. Then I switched to water. I still have the occasional Coke Zero (I don`t know why, I just prefer it to regular coke.) but mostly water. I really do have a lot more energy.

"Sodas are bad for you" blah blah blah

Water is bad for you. Forget drowning in it or slipping on a puddle and breaking your neck, if you drink too much water you die.

Moral of the story is: EXCESS kills.
So go have a soda. Have a cigar and a drink.
Just don`t do it to death.

I was an avid cola drinker (couldn`t stand the thought of even tasting water) and finally stopped about a year and half ago.

Started drinking bottled water, and gradually moved to tap. I love water now, and I lost 15 pounds within 2 months of just drinking vitamin water and h2o. I was never chubby to begin with, so now when I see any kind of pop, I hiss.

:-D

1. 3 miles isn`t very far.

2. That`s why you run.

Potassium counteracts sodium... You need both to level yourself out..

You can eat salt foods, just level it out with a healthy vitamin intake...

Or just run a half mile at 5 mph... which is a pretty slow run. Run a bit faster at 8 mph, and it only takes a quarter of a mile.

I quit drinking pop a long time ago. I will occasionally have one if there aren`t any other options, but it is a rarity, and you shouldn`t call it soda because it is a misnomer.

@jinxiejae Diet soda does have sodium in it though, so drinking it excessively can make you retain water and bloat. I definitely try to keep my consumption of it to one can a day. drinking 8 cans of diet pop might not make you fat, but it`s still not good for you. Water is the best option! :)

When I was growing up, a bottle of Coke was 6.5 oz. Now it`s more than triple that.

And we wonder why we`re all getting fat?

I stopped drinking soda when I was 14 or 15 because of how unhealthy it is, though now I`ll occasionally drink a ginger ale if I really want soda. But I find dark sodas (i.e. pepsi/coke] to be disgusting now. I seriously don`t know why people drink them when even plain water tastes better imo. ofc there`s lots of things people like that I find disgusting, to each their own :3

There is actually proof that the artificial sweeteners used in most diet soda are harmful in many ways. They can cause a stroke or complicate things for people already prone to having a stroke. They are also harmful to your body as they are digested. As artificial sweeteners are broken down by your body they produce harmful substances.

Diet soda might have zero calories but putting something that`s completely processed and full of chemicals into your body regularly seems like kind of a bad idea. Just don`t drink sodas that often.

With unnecessary chemicals in most of your food, calories from a soda should be the least of your worries.

@elderban they have been saying that this and that and nearly everything have been proven to cause cancer for decades. until i see hard evidence of a significant number of humans, not rats, contracting cancer from excessive exposure to artificial sweetener, ill file it under slight paranoia science.

Walking a few miles a day is probably not a bad idea...even if you don`t drink a 2-liter every day. (yep, my first `this is why you are fat america` comment on IAB)

@jinxiejae: Diet soda is actually worse for you than regular soda. NutraSweet (aspartame) messes with your brain and Splenda (sucralose) causes intestinal problems and in high quantities can kill you. Additionally, both have been proven to cause cancer. Best bet is to drink water. Zero calories and no chemicals...well, unless you include the fluoride.

Factor on the fact that people often drink several of these a day, or translate those into cans (3 bottles would equal 5 cans). So,if you drank 5 cans or 3 20 ounce bottles (I know people that drink more than that), you`d have to walk 10-20 miles a day to burn off the calories just from the soda. And that`s JUST the soda. Don`t forget people eat food during the day as well, and of that is full of empty calories as well.

Yeah, you can quite easily walk three miles in less than an hour. Calories are fairly easily burned, people are just lazy.

Diet soda= 0 calories. says so on the nutrition info. if something doesn`t have any calories, it cant make you fat. if you take in more calories than you burn you gain weight. no calories, not adding to the problem. why is this such a difficult concept?
