Social workers remove child from home citing medical neglect. Is having an obese child, abuse? Right or wrong I-A-B?

This is another case of perspectives. Of course he seems big next to his fellow students his age. But I bet if you were to see him in another environment say his home, he would seem small compared to his 500lb mom and his 600lb dad. So really he may have some catching up to do.

child services is corrupt as hell. There`s been cases of people paying them to take other people`s kids out so they could adopt them.

There are a few medical conditions that can make some overweight that you can’t do anything about.
As for Social workers “the road to hell is paved with good intentions”

Taking him out of that home is the best help he could get. Sitting your kid in front of a T.V. and feeding him nothing but fast food is abuse. I`m 29 and 150 pounds, no F`ing kid should out weigh me.

@MikeRotch

It`s probably about as bad as living in LA and breathing all the smog. Funny how no country tells you what burning diesel fumes do to you considering how many homes are heated with it and how many vehicals use it.

If you support this then where do you draw the line on how the government dictates how you live?

So sad. He definitely should be taken away. She`s letting the kid get fat rather than teaching him the importance of being healthy. He already has health problems due to his weight. He is probably picked on in school and will be bullied unless he loses weight. At this pace, he`ll probably be dead before he`s 20. How can you argue that she should be allowed to continue raising him like that? And McGovern, yea I think parents should not be allowed to smoke around their children, do you have any idea how terrible that is for the kid, who has no choice but to be around it?

For almost every case I`ve seen where a child under 15 weighs more than me, it has been a case of:
Child: *cries*
Parent: *gives food to shut then up*

Food is used as a pacifier because the parents have never learned how to discipline their children properly.
Instead of addressing the issue of misbehaving, they enable it by giving them food.

So let me make sure I understand this right. The kid`s weight is 3.3X that of a normal 8 year old. The CPS worked with the parent for months trying to help the kid lose weight before it came to this. He`s already displayed medical conditions exacerbated by being overweight.

So...whats the problem? The kid is obviously going to die by time he`s 15 at this rate.

Could be neglect. In cases like this, because the danger isn`t absolutely immediate (like letting him or her run with a 9 inch chef`s knife would be), the first step should always be education for the child and the parent(s). The parent(s) should be given a clear understanding of what needs to be done, how to do it, and when it needs to be done by. If, after that education, the parent(s) still haven`t taken care of their child, then removal is warranted. If, however, the parent(s) are doing everything that can be done, and is being asked of them, and the child is still heavy, then the social workers should continue to work with the parent(s) to help the child lose weight.

When I was a kid I remember there was one fat kid in the school and his poor life was made a misery by the other kids. I saw a class of school kids the other day and lots of them were way fatter than this one kid I knew at my school.

GODDAMSTUPIDPARENTS!

No way an 8 year old goes out and gets his groceries. If she can`t handle a simple thing like feeding a kid properly the you have to save the kids life and take him away from her.

I usually don`t like the state interfering, but she`s killing the kid with food.

I think if you`re 3 and you`re fat. It`s probably genetic or hormonal. A little kid isn`t going to gorge themselves on McRibs and eggnog shakes.

There are children getting beaten, starved, and raped every day by their parents, yet THIS is what social workers are doing with their time?

Educate the mom and keep an eye on the situation, but for God`s sake, focus on the children who really do need to be saved from their homes.

I was only half paying attention to the video, but I remember reading an article where it said the social workers gave her diet/exercise ideas and gave her a year to get his weight down, but nothing changed. I`m curious as to how much of an effort she put in

This is a slippery slope. When do ya think the health gestapo will start taking away kids from people who smoke? We all know how healthy kids grow up to be when raised by the state/government....
