Link: The Simpsons To Be Cancelled This Season? - Looks like it. Fox wants to pay the cast 45% less. The cast isn`t budging. Harry Shearer makes his statement. Doh?

It just drives me crazy that the cast is willing to take pay-cuts but just ask to be compensated from lost wages based on profit. Seems fair to me, but at long as Simpsons has the time to wrap it up properly- I`m not going to lose sleep over it

I stopped watching The Simpsons years ago, but I honestly thought a show like that would stay around for another 20 years or so.

I will applaud if it gets cancled. The Simpsons have always sucked. The fact that they have done so well is a testament to how bad the general population sucks too.

Really? This being the show that has spent years mocking the more degenerate spawn of capitalism? (not to say that all capitalists are degenerate, just that some people are.)

It`s about f.cking time! The Simpsons was an amazing, groundbreaking show in its day, but that day passed over a decade ago and they`ve just been dragging its corpse through the dirt ever since. I think Matt Groening realized this at some point which is why he created Futurama, as an outlet for the creativity he could no longer put into The Simpsons.

That`s my thoughts exactly, Norris. Until the artists are fairly represented, I don`t shed a tear when I download songs, or TV shows, or movies. The only one who makes a profit from those are the distributors, and they don`t deserve the wealth earned from the artists.
Production companies are by no means hurting. They produce quality work, they get repaid by the initial sales, but once the contract has been met, then the distributor gets the rest. With the music industry, the bands get less than a dollar for each CD sold, and they make all their money in concerts and merchandise. Movies earn their wealth by their theatrical runs, and DVD sales are just gravy. TV shows earn their money from the advertisers, and after it`s been aired, the money earned from re-runs goes to the stations.

I agree cyborg... for some reason anything he writes fox puts on the air... while cancelling Futurama, Firefly, Arrested Development... what a record. but if Seth MacFarlane wipes his a$$ on a paper they put it on the air forever... what a shame...

    That`s a little ridiculous.

If Fox is grabbing more profit than it`s due, then that is their right as a company, but you can`t do the show without this guy... The actors have the last say, unless they hire other actors, but then the show looses quality since it becomes obvious characters aren`t who they say.

This doesn`t really matter. I believe that for Fox, profits are indeed on the rise, and this "threat" from the actor, will pay off for him.

Capitalism at it`s finest. The show will go on, as it is, in fact, in everyone`s interests.

Personally I wouldn`t care if I was him, since I`d probably be rich anyway.

i remember in 1999-2000 when matt groening wanted to stop the simpsons after season 11-12 to put more effort in futurama and that the executives at fox didnt want to because it made so much money
i honestly think its time for the simpsons to stop, it sucked since "The principal and the Pauper" (season 9, episode 2), aka, 3rd worse golden age episode

I saw a lot of complaining in the link about how they`re overreacting. I`d do the same thing. "You want to cut my pay in half? Naahhh. Have fun without any new Simpsons episodes, non-nice individuals. I`m going to go get a job making more than you`ve ever payed me now."

i was 10 in 89 when the simpsons first aired all the kids born in the mid 90`s don`t know what they`re talking about when they say they don`t care.the simpsons are cool as hell the kids who never grew up on it aren`t and they`re the target audience so the show gets cancelled cause it doesn`t appeal to dumb little children born in the horribly boring 90`s

I don`t much care whether the Simpsons get cancelled or not. I also don`t blame the actors for negotiating in good faith. Finally, I don`t blame Fox either. As a corporation they need to make a profit for their share holders. For example, if they need profit from the Simpsons to offset losses elsewhere, that`s their call. The Simpsons is not a stand alone business, and Fox needs to make decisions for the whole company. Right or wrong, it`s not our business. Customer (viewers) who care should speak up, but demonizing anyone over normal business operations is dumb.

End the show. I love the Simpsons, I was raised on it. But the show isn`t funny anymore. It`s angering. It`s changed its format to be more like Family Guy, just endless pop culture references. Family Guy isn`t witty, it never will be. But the Simpsons was the greatest show on TV from 1991 to 1997. And I`ll be damned if they continue to ruin the Simpsons for me.

"It`s about time. It`s been sliding downhill at an alarming rate for a few years now. "

It`s been sliding downhill for most of it`s existence.

Anything up to season 10-11 is acceptable, anything beyond year 2000 is complete rubbish.

It`s easy to tell, if Homer spends most of his time screaming, then it`s a newer episode. The writers are stubbornly refusing to write the Simpsons the way they were written in the 90`s, with the argument that they have to remain "edgy". No, you had the perfect balance in the 90`s and I laughed at every episode. Now I get annoyed and change the channel before the first commercial break.

Utilize the same wit as was used in the best episodes and you will start making the bug bucks again.

And I was raised on the Simpsons. From grade 1 in 1991 to grade 4 in 1994, I watched the new episodes as they came on once a week, without argument the best seasons ever made were 2-3-4.

Grade 5-7 I was moving around, and didn`t have fancy cable, so I caught reruns.

Grade 8-12 I had a schedule from 3:00pm after school, until 10 at night, I watched 4 hours of Simpsons by channel surfing, and I had a break to do my homework in the midst of it.

I can definitely watch any old episode and laugh and quote all the significant quotes...

"The Simpsons" is like the British Royalty; completely obsolete, but kept around because it`s a part of our culture and history. The show has been on for 23 years but it stopped being funny 10 years ago. Also, the spoiled casts of television shows are always absurd. They make more money in one week than many people will ever see in their lifetimes and they still want more.

    ----------

And? Without them the show would never have succeeded. They may not deserve the high salary they have, as shearer stated int he letter (which you obviously didnt read) but they DO deserve a fair share of the profits.

Yeah it should be cancelled because it`s not funny anymore. BUT- I will always respect The Simpsons like I respect my crazy old grandpa who doesn`t make much sense anymore.

Also, the article was super gross in the fact that he actually thinks he has a normal perspective on money/hardship/injustice etc and what`s important in life. And looking for sympathy from the `other 99%`.... barking up the wrong tree there, pal.
