CrackrJack, I`ve got a fable for you. Once upon a time, a girl named Goldilocks broke into the home of a bear family. They never found her body.
MORAL: Using fables or allegory only works if the stories are similar. You could very well say that they are greedy, but you have to show how they are doing so.

Who`s the Hen in your story? In what way is protesting the banks in any way similar? Your argument is a bad one.

"Work hard, and you will get your reward. Wealth isn`t about money."

Because surely, people organizing or taking part in protests aren`t really working in any sense, or even valuing the time they have protesting more than the monetary compensation that working would give them? Surely, none of these people are sacrificing anything and they`re just getting in the way of everyone. Also, I`m a dinosaur and I am amazed I can type, let alone understand written english.

Tetragramma: The moral is "Don`t kill the goose that lays the golden egg". If you decide to confiscate all the wealthy people`s money, #1 you won`t get much, if anything, in return and you will have killed off the people that create the jobs in this country through venture capital.

CrakrJak, that can be seen in another way, too. Hen gives eggs to the whole community , then some selfish person decides they want chicken for dinner . They get a nice meal for a short while and screw over everyone else .

That doesn`t make sense, although I didn`t expect it to.

If I was rich, I would sit back and live off of my wealth and never lift a finger, as is the American dream, and therefore most rich people would do the same.

If you were rich through business, you would try to grow it, which employs people.

Cracrjak : No, I understand what you`re trying to get at, it`s simply not all that apt. To imply that the rich are the real driving force in the economy is to devalue the contributions of everyone else, which is absurd. The rich don`t consume nearly as much as the majority of Americans, they don`t pay as much in taxes (cumulatively) as the rest of America, and they sure as hell don`t create jobs. People who run corporations are interested in making money, not hiring people, though that`s not inherently bad. If your job is able to be automated (or outsourced) at a cheaper cost, then it will be. Additionally, though the U.S. does have the highest corporate tax rate, it also pays massive amounts of money in tax returns, and also subsidizes industries like agriculture. If you believe in a free market, then why would it ever include giving any money or favor to any company or industry at all? I`d really like you to argue otherwise.

If you were rich through business, you would try to grow it
If I was a rich businessman and my motivation is money, then I already have money. I retire immediately and dispose of the business.

I doubt you`ll find many Randian industrialists anymore...

Rich people aren`t devoted to creating jobs. (Think about all the different "kinds" of rich people, few make jobs and fewer still do so effectively). Why would they be? Whereas the taxes they generate are pure profit for your government.

Lazy: Really? You are, at most, 29 right now. If you had a successful business, you would work to make it more successful. If you didn`t feel like it, you would keep a stake in the company, and someone else would work to make it grow.

Do you really not know how business works?

Auburn, Lazy, I believe both of you are overlooking a critical distinction: Publicly traded companies are beholden to shareholders who expect a return upon their investment. It may very well be less advantageous for them to "grow" through employment because employment requires more expense, paying payroll tax, offering insurance benefits, ect. Smaller private companies need employment for growth because a smaller amount of workers means less production and therefore less profit. It`s really oranges and tangerines: yes, they`re both citrus, but they`re not the same.

"If I was a rich businessman and my motivation is money, then I already have money. I retire immediately and dispose of the business."

There is simply zero logic in this statement. And not everyone can be monetarily wealthy. Where did these people get the idea that they are entitled to the same worldly wealth as everyone else? Everyone is different with different skills, looks, intelligence, capabilities, drive, etc. etc. That is why some become wealthy and others do not... that is just the way it must be and will be no matter where you are.

There is absolutely no basis of credibility in these illegal protests. Just as there is no logic or reason to them either. I respect those like myself that work hard for what they have and find an inner peace in knowing that we may not become filthy rich but are happy anyways.

LillianDulci: Everyone protects their own financial self-interest, and yes that is greed, unless you`re a monk or nun that has taken a vow of poverty.

If you think these protesters aren`t greedy, think again, many of them are children of the 1% they are complaining about, going to very expensive schools that cost more per year than most people`s mortgages. Many others are union thugs being paid $350-$650 a week to protest, I`ve already linked to the craiglist listing proving that fact.

This protest is a socialist attack on capitalism and that`s all.

    @LillianDulci: I couldn`t agree with Crakr more.

Also, double-standard much? You`re criticizing other people for being greedy, but aren`t YOU being greedy because you`re getting mad at other people for not doing what YOU want them to do?

When you earn and collect money, it`s called "saving"; when they earn and collect money, it`s called "being greedy", right?

That interviewer was a complete dick.

BUT- I have a lot of mixed feelings about this Occupy business, and I`ve been to Chicago`s version a few times now. My main reasons that I support it are because A) I don`t think that capitalism is sustainable for our world/US/environment 2) I don`t want money buying votes anymore and C) I like that people are taking notice of US problems and actually taking the initiative to push for change.

But I think it`s important to remember that we may be the 99%, but we are still lucky enough to be 1% of the world.

(I saw that quote on the intewebs the other day, and I think it sums up my feelings nicely.)
