My neighbor`s leave their Christmas lights up year-round to save themselves the hassle and hardship of taking down and subsequently reassembling the festive decorations each fall. To act otherwise would be un-American.

Nordstrom has had this policy for a long time.

Where I work they started putting Christmas stuff out a week ago. This week there`s now more Christmas things in the department than Halloween. We didn`t even decorate for Halloween this year! Very sad...

Hurrah for Nordstrom.
The others take a great holiday and start so early we`re sick of it before it arrives.

The Kmart down the street has had a whole section of their store devoted to Christmas stuff since early September. Who buys this stuff that early?

It is not even Halloween and Home Depot already has Christmas displays...I used to really love Christmas, now it is just another over commercialized day that has no meaning..sad...

Harrods over here were the first to start on Christmas, with decorations and their xmas dept to open. Same with Selfridges, and this was July!

Gathering presents fine, crafting deparments carrying xmas ware from whenever really is fine, because people want to shop early, but I hate seeing Xmas crap when we haven`t even done halloween! Three weeks ago, the Xmas Box opened in our town, there`s been Xmas decorations, gifts etc in the super market for several weeks.

In some places of the UK they`ve even put up their Xmas Display lights in Sept!

It`s fun to see xmas, just not 5 months onwards before it actually hits us.

I work at B&Q (it`s a big diy store like home depot for those of you not from the UK) and they`ve just finished putting up the full Christmas display and products inc a 12ft fake tree. It`s just depressing to walk the the "Christmas wonderland" in the middle of Oct.

Yeah, they are already selling all those Christmas sweets for like two weeks here in Germany and once Santa is up the chimney again you`ll see all the easter stuff.

I can understand my store, because it`s a craft store, and people like me take forever to make crafts, but still.

While I DO need to start considering gifts right around now, being a terrible gift shopper for any holiday, I DO NOT need to hear Christmas music already.

The fact that they ARE playing the music already is further proof that Christmas is no longer about ANY of it`s original ideals, pagan or Christian, but instead about making money. The earlier they can usher in the "holiday shopping season," the more sales they can get.

But I`m pretty sure we all knew that already.

its still 85 freaking degrees out, in the middle of a drought, so good for them going easy on the xmas crap.

My only issue is that Halloween comes before Thanksgiving, unless this was taken in Canada.

Christmas should be 1 week. Not 5 months.

Love it. Do it too early and it sorta takes some of the magic out of it by the time the holiday actually rolls around. Though for people like me, it`s definitely time to start thinking about gifts...I`m a horrible Christmas shopper.

I can remember the days when you didn`t see Xmas stuff until after Thanksgiving. I don`t care about their motive, I think it`s great anyway!

We haven`t celebrated Holidays here at Love Canal since we got our color television.

I like doing my Christmas art and crafts gifts/projects in October. That way I can actually relax and enjoy the holidays when they roll around. For me theres nothing worse than trying to be artsy during a holiday rush.

December the 1st is the earliest that decorations should go up. Of course as we don`t have Thanksgiving in this part of the world, decorations usually go up sometime in mid November.

Why? Because economic forecasts tell us no one is spanding any money anyway so we`ll defer the cost of seasonal employees and decorations until a later time as this is the most fiscally responsible thing to do.

There`s no point in forcing the XMas decorating of anything until the end of November, the feeling and anticipation of XMas doesn`t even start until December 15th anyways. Planning everything, gifts, travel, etc... up to XMas is not my idea of "Tis the season".

In Canada, I give anything after November 11th fair game. Our Thanksgiving is in early October but I think it`s disrespectful to start celebrating until after Remembrance Day (our Veterans Day)

Around 6 or 7 weeks ago a company nearby put up a sleigh and two plastic reindeer.

Good!

The Christmas season shouldn`t officially start until Santa makes his appearance at the Macy`s Day Parade.
