Ricky Gervais On Justin Bieber & Jesus [Pic]

Not literally. Although that would be one hell of a threeway considering how staunchy Gervais is about his atheism.

Davymid, I take back what I said about Heureux in the other post. I didn`t realize that he was projecting bigotry.
I genuinely didn`t see this as a joke. Religion says god is everywhere, that`s a fact, so why does this dumb poo Beiber goes all the way to my city to be closer to god?
Organised religion seeks power, which requires it to convince believers that it controls access to their god(s) in some way. So it must teach that physical location is at least very relevant, if not absolutely essential.

Medieval Catholic Christianity is perhaps the best example of that. That church gained fabulous wealth and power by convincing vast numbers of people that was true and openly selling divine favour to them. I mean that literally - that church took vast sums of money from people in exchange for "guaranteeing" preferential treatment in the afterlife. Modern American Christianity tries, with a fair degree of success, to do the same thing.

It`s why for some while the punishment for translating the bible into a language many people could read was death.

You haven`t read enough Heureux, because he managed to top that a couple of posts later with this:
Why is it ok for anti-religion hate speech to appear here every day, but accurate, fair, and civil criticism of atheism is labeled trolling?
[..]
Atheism is a prejudice.
To be fair, I`m not sure that Heureux was trolling. He might be irrational, bigoted and hypocritical enough for his posts to have been genuine.
I`ll pretend he [Heureux]was just trolling and didn`t actually believe what he said
He didn`t. It is impossible to believe what he said.

The core of his "argument" was that it is irrational prejudice to not believe what other people believe, on the basis that doing so somehow denies their beliefs, which Heureux claimed were evidence.

In order to believe what he said, Heureux would have to believe everything that anyone has ever believed.

Not just every religion that has ever existed (including the ones that we know little or nothing about because they disappeared so long ago), but also every tale of every mythological character (e.g. the labours of Heracles), every tale of every supernatural creature or person (faeries, werewolves, etc, etc), every conspiracy "theory", every tale of aliens...etc, etc.

So no, he didn`t believe what he said.

Closer to God as in understanding the roots of his religion, I`d assume. As in, his personal relationship with God. I R SMRT.

glad that guy got banned. i`m very religious, i think this is funny as hell. atheists aren`t bigots. although, i`ve had the misfortune to meet a few people who think being atheists gives them a right to start a ridiculous fight with me over it. but those are just idiots, and every group has those.

OH F*CKING REALLY?

Wow, you just proved how absolutely ignorant you are.

You have NO idea how many atheists are people who`ve been religious, and turned away because they saw that there was no light, just a bunch of bullsh*t wrapped up in a pretty package.

You`re a hypocrite. And a troll.

You claim that atheists make broad generalizations about religious people?

WTF are you doing?

(Just now read that he was B&. Still posting this. Love how you called him out on the fact that he always disappears when someone comes up with an argument he can`t fight back against, Davy.)

Aww, now I`ll never get the opportunity to delve into the depraved labyrinth that is Heureux` mind to determine why he feels he needs to satisfy his egotistical desire for attention. I had theories it has to do with some sense of feeling not worthy of the attention he now craves, maybe mommy and daddy didn`t put baby Heureux` drawings on the fridge, or perhaps the teachers in school placed him in the remedial program. I`ve seen just about all of the psychological defence mechanisms: denial, reaction formation, projection, etc. Maybe if I had a little more time to give him the help he craves then I...oh wait I don`t care any more.

HA! I`d like to see that.

Arg! What a retard Heureux is (was). I`ll pretend he was just trolling and didn`t actually believe what he said, just to maintain my sanity.

I like Gervais. His whole demeanor screams "professional comedian". He`s one of the best. He`s made some poor decisions in the past though, in the name of celebrity.

atheists talking about religion are like celibate priests talking about sex

both chose not experience the very thing they claim to know "the truth" about better than everyone else.

davymid

I`m not trolling, and your ad hominem claim is a good reason why you should not be moderator.

Why is it ok for anti-religion hate speech to appear here every day, but accurate, fair, and civil criticism of atheism is labeled trolling?

Because atheism is entirely about ego. You cannot take criticism of atheism, but dish it out against religion.

Atheism is a prejudice.

Ah, Heureux, my sweet flower, how blissful am I at your return. Please, explain to me why I`m an atheist so I may bask in your deep philosophical insight.

Also, if you`ll do me the pleasure explain how not caring about the opinions of others = denigrating billions, and how denigrating billions = sadism, I`ll continue to be eternally grateful for your existence.

I await to feel the sting of your razor sharp wit against my mind.

Dude, free speech and all that, but you`re trolling these boards, even if you don`t recognize that you are. Trust me, I`ve been Mod for over 6 years around here, I can spot a troll when I see one. Last time I banned anyone on grounds of trolling was back in June, please don`t set yourself up to my first in 4 months.

Please, pretty please, keep the conversation civil. And if you`ve made a point in one thread, then fair enough, drop it and move on to the next. Please.

Heureux, this is an official warning to cease the trolling. I`ve warned you before several times on thread which you haven`t returned to.

When you enter every thread on religion and sh*t all over that thread proclaiming how atheists are nothing more than prejudiced bigots akin to sexists, racists and homophobes, then disappear, you`re trolling the threads.

I`d give the same warning (and have done in the past) to any atheist user who predictably hijacked every related thread with the same schtick on how Christians are all prejudiced bigots, or Muslims, or homosexuals, or people who like ice-cream for that matter. It`s bordering on hate-speech against a group different from you, and that isn`t tolerated.

"As harmless as this is, I smell a Heureux on the horizon to piss in everyone`s cheerios.

Remember, where there is Heureux there is surely a wave of stupidity to follow."

Ah, because denigrating billions of people for your own enjoyment is a good thing - to people with no recognizable moral code.

The two of you have demonstrated that sadism is a key component of atheism.

Atheists are just a kind of bigot, like racists and homophobes. Were it not for the faddishness of atheism, most folks here wouldn`t even know who Ricky Gervais is, and as much as he milks his hatred of Christianity for some extra time in the spotlight, his career will fizzle soon enough. Andrew Dice Clay thought he`d be hot and relevant too.
