If he lowers his feet just a bit batman can kick joker right in the junk.

what is the copyright law in using comic characters in math books?

Problem.... the chandelier would not be still... and we have no solid figures or variables to account for its movement. Occums razor may be God... But even God`s too phucking stupid to make people without enough dirt.

Batman 80kg?

They should have used Spiderman for that question, as 80Kg`s is a believable guesstimate.

assuming batman hits him a meter above the ground and collision is elastic

Jokers going to get hit by about 3200 Newtons of force. If Batman stops completely Joker will be moving at about 9.5 m/s

I like how you can`t read the problem at all. This is so photoshopped.

answer is 4. It is always 4.

"Shopped, but still funny! ^^"

Not shopped I had the exact same question on a test a few semesters ago

Since the Chandelier would move slightly, the calculation will change.

Wait, was he sitting there before he jumped? That`s kinda lame. He couldn`t be standing up, or the trajectory of his center of mass would be different...

velocity = sqrt(2*9.81*5 metres) = 9.9 m/s
Impact: m1v1 = m2v2
v2 = 80*9.9/70 = 11.32 m/s

Yay high school physics. >_>

clearly not calculating the various mass displacement of the crystal chandelier

thats some serious rounding off. plus, i`m sure Bale weighs at least 95 when he was packing it for American Psycho.

that really would suck, think of trying to calculate the resistance from his cape -_-

Just in case all the other comments saying the exact same thing didn`t sink in, I`m going to go ahead and say that this is probably a physics book.

Im not sure what the question is.... all I see here is that Batman is fatter than the Joker.

must be a physics book because this would be solved using physics and not math )-|

I read these comments and all I hear are English majors complain.

Math and science are great.

I had this problem in a text book, it`s easy. It took 4 lines maybe 5

Can`t know how fast the Joker is going unless you know the Bat`s speed after the impact. Batman`s velocity prior to the impact would be cake though.

whatever it takes to make people want to learn, this for math and physics, or porn for anatomy/human sexuality... like i said, whatever works.

Physics.

Fool.

Conservation of energy problem. Question is probably how fast is the Joker going to be kicked backwards.

Batman does not weigh 175 lbs. He`s gotta weigh at least 220. At least he should if he`s able to do all that poo.

Male 1,586
Oh and P.S. it seems to me that Batman would weigh more than 175. I could be wrong, but I`ve always put him in the 190-200 range.

Ok the joker gonna be destroied ( if the chandelier don`t fall first...well also in that case no chance for the joker).
