By the Gods... This man shows kindness, and then in a fantastic twist of fate, is rewarded for his kindness, and half of you go off about religion, or Islam, or how it must be fake...

How about maybe recognizing that good people exist, in all forms, in all places, in all faiths, and take comfort in that fact.

"religion has nothing to do with this act..."

It says "signed, your muslim brother".

I think religion had EVERYTHING to do with this act.

religion has nothing to do with this act...TBH, i would not be surprised to learn that this was staged by the owner.. but if it enables people to show compassion than I approve.
"Beautiful, the guy is more Christian than 99.9999% of the US."
I can understand what you`re trying to say here but you really need to rethink your vocabulary use.

`Compassionate` would have probably been a much more suitable word to use than `Christian`

Kindness begets kindness, I`ve learned that in my own life, too. Kudos to the shop owner for helping that robber instead of treating him like scum. Sometimes it just takes one person to do one nice thing for someone to turn their lives around.

I believe (and feel free to correct me if I`m wrong) that in America, or most states at least, if the shop owner doesn`t press charges, the police can`t either. Maybe it`s different if it`s caught on camera.

@kairobert

you mean .. that a virtue ceases to be a virtue when it becomes a duty? (i can`t for the life of me remember who`s argument that is)

i`d like to point out that "In accordance with the Quran and several hadith, theft is punished by imprisonment or amputation of hands"

As with Most religions, you have multiple interpretations, this Man choose to be compasionate becuase a: there is room for that in his religion and that appeals to him or B: he is trying to be/ is a compasionate person.
so it isnt a duty in this case, it`s a virtue

Sorry but if this were real the guy would have handed him the $50 in person. It`s obvious some person saw the story and wanted to make a positive story out of it by sending the cash.

Let it go police - that man learned a lesson he will never forget - far beyond any rehabilitation the criminal justice system could possibly have to offer further.

And here`s food for thought - without the 2nd amendment, that shop owner would not have been able to teach this would-be robber such a life changing lesson.

(Speak softly, but carry a BIG stick..)

Compassion from a seat of power has 10 fold the effectiveness of the same from a position of helplessness.

A positive action motivated by religion is not a good deed, but a trade.

I think the reason Muslim has been bought up is because of all the negetive press they get for being terrorists they wanted to show they`re not all bad.

I`m glad everything turned out well for both of these men, but what does him being a Muslim have to do with anything?

@robosnitz

If it was that superficial, balancing the scales; than the U.S. wouldn`t exist any more.

This vid just shows that anyone can be capable of compassion and anyone can be capable of turning his/her life around for the better because of the compassion of others.

this has nothing to do with 9/11 robosnitz, weak comparison. the acts of a few do not dictate the views of everyone in that religion anyways. america has had enough nut jobs do crazy poo in the name of our god but i wouldnt blame every other christian for their messed up behavior would you?

One Americanized Pakistani doesn`t make up for the loss of 9/11.Maybe if the nation of Islam gave the victims of 9/11 forty bucks and a loaf of bread each, instead of murdering 2,819 people in a cowardly act of cold blood in the name of Allah, things would be different. But they`re not.Good for this shop owner.Allah be praised.

I`ve always believed that religion has nothing to do with being a good person.
I believe people who are good, are so in spite of the oppression of religion, not because of it.

"Any decent human being would have also spared the guys life, given what was shown in the video. Everything else is secondary and thus does not need to be in the title. "
Really?
So the fact that he didnt call the cops, gave his robber 40$ and a loaf of bread, and converter his robber during the robbery isnt relevant?
lol, those are the actual relevant parts to the story. We really dont give a drat if someone was robbed, but spared his robbers life before sending him to rot in jail.
The title of Muslim is relevant because the robber turned to Islam after being shown mercy.
Any decent human being would have also spared the guys life, given what was shown in the video. Everything else is secondary and thus does not need to be in the title.

But this is a minor point, and the novelty effect is subtle.
it would be a little odd if the title was `Atheist` or `Christian` shop owner and then the assailant turned to Islam...
That would not make sense at all, why would you bring it up?

Yeah I think the fact that he is Muslim is worth a mention, especially in U.S. Where the Islam and the followers are vilified for the very reason.
Kind man who is guided by his faith to do right, good things. If all people of faith were of this variety no one would have problem with religion.

Didn`t have an ax handy to chop off the thiefes hand so he just let him go.

One of the 5 principles (or pillars) of Islam is to feed the hungry, and to be charitable, hence, the fact that he is Muslim is relevant.

"But I do have a qualm with the title... "Muslim shopkeep shows mercy to a robber"? Why would it matter that he`s a muslim?"

And I smell stupidity. The title of Muslim is relevant because the robber turned to Islam after being shown mercy. Otherwise, it would be a little odd if the title was `Atheist` or `Christian` shop owner and then the assailant turned to Islam... we would all be wondering why it was relevant.

Class is over... now go back to picking your nose.

@Lazyme I think premise was put on the Moslem in title because the guys religion was a major factor in him allowing the robber to live and his do gooding work from then on.

However because I can REPOST! :P

Aww that`s cute.

But I do have a qualm with the title... "Muslim shopkeep shows mercy to a robber"? Why would it matter that he`s a muslim?

Is that a novelty or something? Does someone think that anyone else would have shot the robber? Because I certainly wouldn`t have. You would have to be pretty messed up to shoot someone after they`ve started groveling on the floor.

I smell some bigotry here...
