It is a pretty piss poor thing to have to do, but one of the first things you must learn while working for a pet shelter, or an animal rescue is that you cannot save them all. Until animal owners are truly held accountable for their animals, we are going to have to keep on putting them down.

Still, gassing them is pretty sh*tty. The shots are far more humane.

There`s a post somewhere on the internet (supposedly) written by an animal shelter employee, describing how sick it makes him to have to kill the animals on a regular basis, how they panic when they figure out where he`s taking them because they can smell the fear. I wish I had saved it when I found it, its really moving. Nearly made me cry.

@TheShgn2 I`m glad you aren`t a peta nut job; they kill more animals than any shelter.

They gas dogs!? I`m sorry but "blah blah blah, jews gas blah. It`s bad blah" but we`re going to do the exact same thing to something we see as lower than us. Nice one hitler.

I thought they`ve euthanized the animals painlessly.

"They`re property, not people."

I love dogs, but this is correct.

@LillianDulci
They essentially choke to death smashed into a tiny box with around 3-7 other dogs. They are treated horribly beforehand, but they still trust the person as they throw them into the chamber. I don`t know if any of you people supporting this have seen it happen, but it is the worst thing I have ever seen in my life. Not that I`m a PETA nutjob, but go to their page and watch it happen if you don;t believe me.

@Lillian-Good question... I`m not sure, but my guess is that being petted and handled by a human while getting a shot is much more relaxing than being in one of those tiny dark boxes. Having gone through the process with several family dogs, the shot is painless, and the dog remains relaxed through the whole process.

She`s one of those PeTA nut jobs who compares petting zoos to Auschwitz.

Gas`em. There`re too many and they`re a drain on resources. They`re property, not people.

i think if a dog is euthanized, the person who makes that decision needs to be in the gas chamber with them

Does anyone know what the arguments are against gas chambers for putting down dogs? Does it make much of a difference if it`s in a gas chamber versus being given a shot? Maybe getting a shot seems nicer since there`s a human there to calm the dog, but a dog in a gas chamber shouldn`t realize it`s being killed, should it? I guess maybe if the other dogs die before it, it might realize that. Unless it`s somehow painful or something. Does anyone know? o.o
