A third of a kilo at a half a cubic meter (regardless of scaling) used for rescue missions seems a bit presumptuous.

At least when DARPA invests in some crazy new military toy, the price tag of the project is what holds the project back.

Nothing new here. Some english guys made one years ago. They just had a different shape.

Basically the Japanese copied their idea and made it into a sphere.
