Same way they "explain" everything - they lie.

I acknowledge that it`s technically possible that they might somehow manage to remain ignorant enough to believe the ludicrous rubbish they say, but I don`t find it plausible that anyone in any way connected with the subject could remain *that* ignorant no matter how hard they try.

Playing god struck down? I`m sorry, struck down for what? Last I checked dinosaurs don`t exist in the biblical timeline and fossils were put there by satan to test faith. Furthermore the bible says both that we were created in his image and that animals are here for us to use. For all anyone knows god is proud we are taking a step towards being more like him. Saying otherwise is unfounded and it seems a big risk to presume to know what he thinks of it. Before anyone bothers with they are perfect the way he made them well I guess that`s the heart of it. They aren`t the way he made them, they are much different and continue to change. Then again, the dinosaurs never existed and the fossils were Satans way of tempting us. Smells like denial. Seems silly god would strike someone down for tinkering with the genes of the descendant of a non-existant creature amiright!?

was raised christian and was taught that dinosaurs existed. the `timeline` can be interpreted a number of ways, one of them being that a day could be any length of time. therefore, a day could be a 24 hour period, a week, month, year or even billions of years. the book never says animals were here for humans to use. humans were given instructions to care for them and tend a garden. not sure how bones in the ground would be a way to tempt people. maybe people are tempting themselves?? i do believe a lot of christians go out of their way to look like idiots when it comes to certain topics. i think people on the flip side of the coin do the same. has anyone here done these tests themselves? i doubt it. sounds like two belief systems in opposite directions, both warped.

Interesting man, Horner. Definitely not your typical scientist. The cool thing about going to MSU is that the Museum of the Rockies is right across the street and they get first crack at the fossils. They`ve totally remolded the entire place, I remember going there as a little kid and there were only a few bones and a lot of plastic models. And an animatronic triceratops.

I don`t get why you people go out of your way to pick on Christians. Yes, some groups are idiots, but they do not represent us all, same goes for every group, we all have stupid people on board who make the rest of us look bad.

I didn`t believe evolution when I was an atheist, also I`ve been using computers for over 17 years, since for some reason that came up in the comments.

Flaw behind most evolutionists, they think Macro and Micro evolution are the same thing and that one proves the other. They aren`t and they don`t.

I could call every group that differs from my personal opinions a lair as well, but I won`t, it`s a cheap shot that`s complete bullsh*t. We believe it`s the truth as much as the next group thinks theirs is.

Dinosaur means "terrible lizard" if your classifying birds as lizards from now on I`m actually fine with that.

Considering the Modification Tools mostly consist of changes due to outside interaction, I lean towards the design side of things. Also because people in all sorts of groups lie for profit and fame, I do my best to look at the proof there actually is.

"And God said, Let us make man in our image, after our likeness: and let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over the cattle, and over all the earth, and over every creeping thing that creepeth upon the earth."

I was intentionally being over the top but as you say it`s up for interpretation. Pretty loosely is seems since there`s no right answer (except that each religous group/sub-group says they are). as you said some thing time is described with different meaning as God is timeless, others think that our dating is wrong and that dinosaurs existed in the very recent past just before man. With all this up for interpretation I still wonder why it is considered by so many that this is "playing god". One interpretation as supported partially by the verse above is that we have been granted control and responsibility over animals. Don`t get me wrong, it says plenty about them being looked after by god and about cruelty

It also says not to take false idol but I doubt people surviving off cloned meat will worship the geneticist that helped make it. One might say that we presume to improve gods work which is perfect. That`s so black and white. What was perfect at one point may be no longer. Times have changed, so have we, so has our environment, and so have our needs. So rapidly in fact we`re struggling to find ways to make our resources work better. There is no such thing as perfect beyond god anyways as far as I understand it. I see it as a change, neither good or bad but situation dependent. I have so much more I want to go on about but I`ll spare you. Bottom line is no one can speak for god, those who do (Pope for example) will be judged as they have judged so they better be right. No matter who is right in the meantime we can only all follow our own moral compasses and hope we all made the right choice too but in the meantime I won`t have the pope or a christian of a various sub group try and tell

me what I can and cannot do despite my beliefs. I see no proof one way or the other and it is my interpretation that so long as we aren`t cruel and we are doing it for honest intentions that it is within his intentions for us to come to this level. Will there be people who do it to become an `idol` or for selfish reasons? Yes, absolutely. Will he have some shady support. Yes. Does that mean it should be halted altogether? No, there are so many who want to use it to feed millions, make us safer, etc.. We`ll all be judged individually for our deeds and why we`ve done them. As the man said though, it`s a call to ethics. There will be a lot of people trying to use this in ways that serve no good purpose at all and seek only bad things. Other than that respect that other people disagree and instead of trying to stop them, pray that god shows mercy for their choices, he did give them the choice to make after-all.

I didn`t believe evolution when I was an atheist

    i) Not "believing" in evolution is like not "believing" in gravity. It`s that degree of delusion. Reality doesn`t change because you don`t believe in it - that`s a reasonable working definition of reality.

ii) If you meant that you thought the basic concepts of the theory of evolution are wrong, then you must have believed in aliens who had micromanaged genetic engineering on all life on Earth for a couple of billion years, deliberately planning for humans to evolve into existence and become dominant...and also that these aliens deliberately created (with genetic engineering) all of the pathogens that affect humanity. So you must have believed that the Black Death, "Spanish" flu, HIV, etc, etc, were deliberate mass killings of humans by these aliens for their own mysterious purposes.

In short, you weren`t an atheist at all. You`d just substituted "aliens&q

    Gah...cut off at ~950 characters.

...you`d just substituted "aliens" for "gods", with no other changes. You were still a theist.

    Flaw behind most evolutionists

That word proves (once again) that you`re either monumentally ignorant or a liar. Or possibly just delusional - that`s an explanation that hadn`t occured to me before.

Do you call people who "believe" in the existence of gravity "gravitists"? Those who "believe" in the existence of disease "diseasists"?

There are no such people as "evolutionists". It`s a term made up as propaganda.

they think Macro and Micro evolution are the same thing and that one proves the other. They aren`t and they don`t.

That distinction (and those terms) are another thing made up as propaganda by creationists. It has nothing to do with evolution - that`s just yet more lies.

I could call every group that differs from my personal opinions a lair as well, but I won`t, it`s a cheap shot that`s complete bullsh*t.

I explained the possible explanations and my reasoning:

Same way they "explain" everything - they lie.

I acknowledge that it`s technically possible that they might somehow manage to remain ignorant enough to believe the ludicrous rubbish they say, but I don`t find it plausible that anyone in any way connected with the subject could remain *that* ignorant no matter how hard they try.

But hey, maybe I underestimated your capacity for willful ignorance and delusion. Maybe you really do think that gravity will disappear if you stop beieving in it, too.

Seriously, how the hell can anyone really believe evolution doesn`t exist? It has massive effects on humanity every day (e.g. MRSA, to pick a famous example from the millions of possible examples). Humans have been using evolution as a *tool* for millenia. Selective breeding absolutely requires the existence of evolution - if evolution didn`t exist, selective breeding wouldn`t have any effect. In fact, selective breeding *is* evolution. It`s just evolution by human selection rather than evolution by natural selection.

I`d go as far as saying that anyone who genuinely believes that evolution doesn`t exist is insane. That degree of delusion and denial of reality is insanity.

Someone who believes that evolution is micromanagement by their god(s) who are faking a natural process for their own reasons...well, OK, that`s no more delusional than anything else about religion. It`s an unnecessarily complicated explanation made up without any supporting evidence, but at least it`s compatible with reality.

To flat out deny the existence of evolution at all, that`s delusional if you believe it and lying for the purposes of propaganda if you don`t.

Now I`m off to disbelieve in gravity really hard, so I can go flying.
