@Lostingkorea:

If there is a piece of ham under the cheese, then it`s a Croque-Monsieur.

It`s only a pity that sarcasm isn`t text based.
Because i`ve genuinely never done this before.
And i`ve definitely never done the same with small frozen pizzas.

I don`t know if anyone has said it but this is NOT grilled cheese. It`s cheese toast. Yes, it`s the same concept but cheese toast is not on the same level as a grilled cheese sandwich. All I need now is a man to go make me a sammich!

SLAVE, WHERE ARE YOU????

Wouldn`t the underside get charred? There`s equal amount of heat coming from either side, except that convection heat comes only from the bottom one (hot air rising), the top is only radiation heat.. Disconnect the bottom row of heat resistors and then it works. So, in order this to work, you have to put the bread in upside down, dripping the cheese all over..

DO NO TRY AT HOME!

It would work, if my toaster didn`t automatically shut off when on its side to prevent house fires.

The caption on the pic is so staccato, it reminds me of Jimmy Carr on QI "put smarties tubes on cats legs make them walk like a robot"

I prefer the semi fried toasty bread on my grilled cheese

Yeah, I always just butter the bread. A little messy on your hands but who cares, they`re going to be coated in butter and cheese in a minute anyways.
you know if you just butter the bread you don`t have to worry about how much is in the pan...
True, but I like really fresh soft squishy white bread, so it`s easier to melt the butter in the pan.

Best grilled cheese EVER!

Put Miracle Whip on the inside of both slices of bread.
Add 2 slices of American cheese.
Grill in pan with LOTS of butter (grill one side, remove, add more butter, turn and continue till done).

Cut in quarters diagonally.

If you prefer open-faced, though, just get a toaster oven. They`re like $20 at Wal-Mart.

Cheese melts, drips onto heating elements, and catches fire. Congrats, you`ve made grilled cheese.

I always keep an old catcher`s mitt handy when I do this...

Yeah, because this wouldn`t rape the one side of bread with fire.

Jeezus, is this what passes for grilled cheese these days?

I coat both sides of the bread in butter, toss them in a pan, turn after a few seconds of browning, add the cheese (and a bit of brown sugar), slap together. Perfect grilled cheese, takes about 4 minutes.

Then it pops up (now sideways) and burning hot bread and melted cheese hits you/ your cat/ your baby right in the face

Yeah, that looks like it could horribly wrong. Just use a damn pan, it`s not that hard.

This is not a bad idea... Needs a toast mod to make it work... But totally worth it.

Male 1,625
most toasters grip the bread (this would leave melted cheese on one side) other toasters actually have a tip preventer that keeps the unit from coming on (or turns itself off) if its not upright

this would work in VERY few toasters

"Don`t think the native americans would have thought of that"

They didn`t think of much of anything.

But as far as the grilled cheese, with the right toaster this could totally change my approach.

My father tried this once. 3 years later we still make fun of him for the ensuing fire.

@robosnitz

It works... I dont recommend putting the sauce IN the sandwich... Serve it on the side like a dipping sauce... Its essentially mini calzones....

Male 2,688
Or you could get yourself a toaster OVEN and save yourself the mess, and hassle when the toaster catches fire...

When I finally understood what was going on in that post, my eyes actually got big and I said to myself "OMG". Quite clever. Don`t think the native americans would have thought of that

You absolutely 100% indisputably can NOT prove this. Why not put some butter on it?

I actually use an old George Foremen grill I got from my neighbor for making some awesome toasted cheese`s. I just lay a brick on top of the machine and in 2-3 minutes, I have a panini style toasted cheese. I`m gonna try it with some pizza sauce, pepperoni and mozzerella after I go shopping tomorrow.

Male 2,737
That`s not a grilled cheese folks. Technically, it`s a toasted cheese, and better for you because no butter or margarine is used.

I hope anyone who tries this is smart enough to put it on a cutting board or hot plate or something. The sides of many toasters can easily get hot enough to start a fire against many kinds of counter tops.

i used to toast bread then microwave to melt cheese between them when i was too young to use the stove. it tastes better when you make it the right way

Alternatively you could grill it. In a grill. Like you`re supposed to. Or buy a George Foreman (best invention ever) and make the ones with two slices of bread, can`t beat it.

Buiadh or you could use bagel setting to toast one side first, then put cheese on it and toast again
0
Reply
Male 2,551
Buiadh - pre-grill the bread so it toasts the side the cheese will be on, then do this.

Soooo... where`s the butter?
0
Reply
Male 6,737
No.

You have two choices in this case.

1. Do not pre-toast the bread. It will be toasted on one side and the cheese will be cooked, but the side that the cheese is on will be soft.

2. Pre-toast the bread , but then the underside of the toast will burn.

Silly idea is silly.
