Correct. I should have been more specific. Meat from animals that eat RED meat tastes like crap. Fish (and dolphins) taste good because they eat fish!

This happened around where I live too. It makes for some unforgettable conversations, though. "Did you hear one of the monkeys on the loose has herpes B?" "Yeah, but it`s OK because the lion ate it."

they didn`t "slay" animals. it is impossible to successfully tranquilize non-domesticated animals during the night because there is no way to track their where-abouts after shooting the tranquilizing gun. the animals would wake up confused, pissed, and panicking...this would make the situation an even bigger problem & leave the town in more danger. if they didn`t kill the animals, they would be extremely dangerous & harmful for human life as well as pets and livestock...BOOM DONE.

Ohio is very lax when it comes to exotic animal laws. I was upset at first that they didn`t tranquilize them and bring them to a zoo...but with it being at night and raining and stuff this was the best option the police had. I`m actually impressed they shot them, good aim I guess? This man really did do the most terrible thing to these animals and the community. He was obviously a troubled and selfish man.

Disgusting. I`m sure this guy prided himself as an animal lover while he was alive. Then not only does he put the community in danger, but he does the worst possible thing he could have done for those animals and sets them free. Wtf?

Cops had no choice faced with overwhelming numbers of dangerous carivores. Tranquilising animals is a skilled task and needs preparation. Get the dose slightly wrong and the animal either dies anyway or rips you to pieces.

But seriously, regulations? I know a lot of Americans don`t like `big government` but this is surely basic.

Yeah I don;t see why people are so up in arms. One tiger or lion on the loose, sure, get everyone to chase it then tranq the hell out of it.

Almost 50 animals on the loose? How many tranq guns do you have? How much manpower? How long until some kid becomes kitty chow?

Leave the herbivores alone for now and scramble to take out the predators as quick as possible. The cops here had to do a pooty thing but they made the right decision.

If you want to be angry, be angry at the son of a bitch that let these animals run free into a populated area.

Wall of text blah blah blah, I feel like bloody Angillion

This happened about 5 miles from my house. They did call in experts and they did try to tranq them. When they tranq`ed the bengal tiger it attacked. So as sad as this makes me about the animals, I would much rather see them dead then someones child.
"they could have called in experts on how to trap and tranq these animals safely."
Logistically that`s fine for one or two animals, but they had 50 plus animals on the loose. The giraffe is fine left to wander but there was no way OHIO had the resouses an manpower on hand to track, dart, cage, transport, house and feed that many dangerous animals. One kid killed waiting at a bus stop and there would have been hell to pay for NOT killing them all. {tigers, not kids}

But, since this tragedy was unavoidable, you might as well enjoy it and make HUNTING PARTY out of it! Invite yer buddies and brind the huntin` dawg! Then we`ll all have Tiger Burgers & Lion Steaks this weekend! WOOO HOOO

Tranquilizers aren`t 100%. These are dangerous animals in a populated area...I`m sorry, good for the police...tranq the less dangerous ones, fine, but the man-eaters? Put them down before they hurt someone.

There`s a circle of hell waiting for Mr. Thompson.

What a complete and utter bastard. To the animals, to the people...yes, even to the men tasked to kill the animals.

Terry Thompson was an ignorant waste of good air. The suffering of innocent animals at his hand leave me to believe the world is much better off without him . . . good riddance. I pity the cops and the community that had to endure his worthless existence.

drat that guy who let these animals loose. They are hungry and will go for pets and small children. They have to be culled for the safety of the neighborhood.
If a child is attacked and eaten then the police will be blamed for not taking the action.

they could have called in experts on how to trap and tranq these animals safely. and yes they can be tranq`d at night. when i lived in kenya for years working out in the bush (for an NGO) i watched KWS tranq animals at night all the time.
This pisses me off so drating much. One word. TRANQUILIZER.
The sherriff had only 4 tranq guns and over 50 large predators on the loose. You can`t use tranq darts at night, because they take ~5 min. to take effect, and you can`t follow an animal at night to see if it worked.

One deputy did dart a tiger, which then turned and attacked him. Fortunately, another deputy was there to kill the tiger or he would have been shredded. Many of these animals were killed at close range with handguns while they were attacking humans.

Had they waited till daylight to start hunting them with tranq guns, the animals could easily have spread out over an area of several thousand square miles.

Even Jack Hannah, curator of arguably the best zoo in the world, said there was absolutely no choice but to kill them all.

If you want to curse someone, curse the rotten son of a bitch who turned them loose. He signed their death warrants.

In the entire United States, Ohio has some of the least-strict laws regarding exotic animals. It`s really a shame that the animals have to suffer because he was irresponsible.

This pisses me off so drating much. One word. TRANQUILIZER. Useless piece of poo dratwads. Don`t get me wrong, if an animal was attacking a human, by all means defend the human at all costs. These animals can`t help they were set free. They`re not evil. For drat`s sake.

Sad for the animals, but at the end of the day I am on Team Human. How can a private citizen own SO many exotic animals? Not wise or safe--for people or the animals. What a waste of life--yes, I am including the poor sap who caused this mess & took his own life. What a shame.

I`m an Ohioan and I realize how awful we would be at surviving in Alaska. Or some other place with a lot of wildlife. 5 or so bears go loose, shoot them dead. I hope the lions and tigers and other animals band together and eat them. Especially that deputy.
