Uhn...this guy just seemed crazy to me. I can understand these sentiments if some sort of brutality was occuring but um, the police were just calmly moving people along... Was just silly.

A couple of things...

Part of me wants to say, "F*ck Yeah!".

But another part says that he made his point, and that was overkill.

And then there`s the point that maybe some of them did in fact have guns. This is America...

Mr. G85 sounds as exactly out of the loop due to his distance from where this is happening as he actually is. People are being beaten, maced, and arrested for NO REASON. The NYPD, along with SEVERAL other police depts around the country are TERRORISTS. IMHO, people who are too deluded to see and combat the evils law enforcement are putting on the groups who aren`t too scared to dissent don`t deserve to have a voiced opinion about terrors being committed abroad

Oorah Devil Dog!

Honor, courage, and commitment...all three on display there.

Speaking up about what is plainly wrong is the ultimate act of a true patriot.

That Marine is welcome in my household any time.

@isthiswherei They`re not saying anything because they don`t want to aggravate the situation. It had the potential to get out of control with the slightest. Cops had to calm the situation by acting neutral but still in control, let him blow off steam and he`ll hopefully leave in peace. No need to excite him even more and get everyone else to see him as a martyr if he got arrested. You must admit he does look like he`s trying to lure the cops in to action or get the crowd going. What he says may even be correct, but the police are only interested, or should be, in keeping the peace in a situation like that.

Yes they do. How many gun related deaths are there in New York each year? A lot, I bet.

"he seemed to be the one out of control, not the police. there is no honor in blinding shouting at officers who seem to be standing idle. wheres the video of the "random beatings" he was shouting about?"

The dude is probably just kind of angry because of certain experiences he`s had in the past and what he has seen in connection with the police and the OWS. And guess what, he probably does have some kind of PTSD, which has been set off by the warzone like mentality of the police and what he has experienced in Iraq or Afghanistan. And the reason why the cops are being still and not doing anything is because what he was saying has weight, especially when a person like him, someone who has seen warzones, says it. Like a smaller version of the vietnam veterans that joined up with the anti-war movement.

I am dreadfully curious how one can illegally protest...

Makes about as much sense as legally breaking laws and a fictional work of nonfiction.

This gentleman simply did what everyone else on wallstreet is trying to do:

Make a point.

Things are not as they should be and he is simply relaying the message.

I fear the day one has to get a permit to protest. Next, we`ll have to register to speak and pay a tax to breath.

Shame.

Also like to point out that some guys you might have heard of before threw a protest without permits. George Washington, Tom Jefferson,.... I think u can guess the rest of the crowd. Overbearing Governments will never really give you freedom of speech when they don`t want to hear what you are saying.

johnkelley, i`d like to see them try and hurt him. Also, i`d like you to tell how people should get legal permits for protests of such kind? Think about who gives them the permits and who finances the givers.
I don`t condone destruction of property, but as long as the protests are peaceful - the people shouldn`t be harmed.

Beardtats, how about you listen to his message first? Maybe I`m wrong, but it seems like he`s kind of irritated over the way that the police officers are handling the crowds. He would not have been irate at ALL if the cops weren`t hurting innocent civilians. And it`s in the best intentions of police to make sure that violence, as well as other crimes don`t happen. "Why are you hurting innocent people?" Does it sound like the cops have their priorities straight? NOPE. sounds like there`s already a problem.

How about the fact that these aren`t peaceful protests? These people are illegally protesting and committing crimes. The cops didn`t look like they were hurting this guy, either.
Why is this so hard a concept to understand, they have no choice, it`s quit your job or do as your told.
There comes a point when morals have to take precedence over employment. If all you ever look out for is yourself, working as a cop, a PUBLIC SERVANT, is not the profession for you.

when a large dangerous looking man with tactical training in combat techniques becomes irritated and begins screaming in a manner such as this, any rational human, police or not, is going to become concerned about the potential for him to turn violent and act irrationally. as a police officer it is their duty to ensure that is not his intention, and prolonged actions of this sort often wind up in the subject simply being detained and possibly tasered so that no other innocent member of society or police service is harmed.....which is exactly what should have happened, military service record or not.

He should have told some of his fellow Marines that it doesn`t make you tough to hurt un-armed people. Would have saved a few lives over there when the very few idiot who thought they were tough murdered innocent civilians for fun.

(I stand behind our troops, but we`ve seen postings on here before about the very few idiot Marines who murder civilians for fun. Just remember, it`s very few, and 99.99% of the people over there are not involved.)

Mastr is right college. Every boot camp kiddie knows once you`re done with your service, you`re more than welcome to continue wearing your uniform in your public life PROVIDED you`ve removed any patches indicating your branch of the military or what country you represent. You CAN`T wear US flags on a military uniform when you`re not in the military. No matter how many mobilizations you had, you are no longer a representative of US policy or Marine/Navy/Army/AF policy. You MAY wear the uniform with all the above patches if you get prior consent.

I still wear my coveralls, cammies, and dress blues on occasion due to comfort, or posture. Anyone in the military who sees me in these uniforms knows immediately I`m no longer an active member because I`ve removed the patches as expected.

mastrmind: you almost turned me stupid there for a minute...i had this whole paragraph typed out as to how that doesn`t restrain him from speaking as a veteran. then i realized that what you just typed has poo to do with what we are actually arguing about. like you said "Fighting with police during a protest isn`t in the regs anywhere."

you would arrest a WW2 or Veitnam veteran for talking about old war stories while not in uniform?

i weep for any children you have/will have at any given point in your life...

His shouting made it a bit hard to understand *all* of what he said but I can agree with his frustration for the situation. And if he was on leave between tours(explaining the half civies dress), which could be likely because he said he was overseas for 14 months which is the average length of one tour(contracts these days last for 3-5 tours), if the cops had touched/hurt him it could have been considered damage to government property (i.e. the marine himself).

10 USC, subtitle A, part 2, chapter 45,sections 771 and 772.

Give you something to read whilst you come up with better comebacks. Trolls must get sleepy.

Now, since we don`t know if A) He was ever on active duty, or B) was, and is no longer on, or C) is a moron. We will assume he was, and no longer is.

So, scroll to Sec 772 When wearing by persons not on active duty authorized

(e) A person not on active duty who served honorably in time of
war in the Army, Navy, Air Force, or Marine Corps may bear the
title, and, when authorized by regulations prescribed by the
President, wear the uniform, of the highest grade held by him
during that war.

Fighting with police during a protest isn`t in the regs anywhere.

mastrmind: impersonating an officer and impersonating a military member are two different crimes and the later is punished more serverely.

the fact of the matter is that he IS an ex marine. why would he give his name and rank if he want otherwise?

he isnt impersonating anyone.
he IS a veteran.
he isnt doing anything wrong.

in the case that you are just trolling ill spray some anti-troll spray and call it a day.

College

By dressing as a member of the military, and speaking on their behalf, he is in fact doing wrong AND could be cited for breaking laws such as one would get for impersonation of a police officer.

If he were to go remove the US Marine insignia and the US Marine patch above it. He could speak as a vet..

scoomanchoo: he already made it clear that he realizes that they in specific dont deserve all of the blame if any...the point that he was trying to get across was that he didnt fight for blood and country to come back and find it at war with itself.

why is it harder for actual americans to understand simple english that it is for other nationalities?

His credibility as a Marine is about as good as
Santa Claus Vs 30 cops.

And there wasn`t a versus.. He just shouted rhetoric, expecting no response, except a said violent one to enforce his own ideas.

He was basically asking them to do it, just so he could further the cause.
