why do we even sign these? I have written things like `this card is stolen` or `do not accept this signiture` in the past, it doesn`t matter.

Does America not have Chip-and-Pin yet? I can`t remember the last time I had to sign for something with a card, it`s been years.

We only sign when we run it as credit. Regardless, nobody ever sees the signature, so many people like to have fun with it and doodle random poo.

Few weeks ago at Khols, the cashier lady actually asked to see the back of my credit card to compare the signature. First time that ever happened, but I guess some people do check.

When I was working retail, a customer had "SEE ID" written in the area right under "NOT VALID WITHOUT SIGNATURE". I asked to see their ID, then told them we could not accept the card because the signatures did not match. Asked to see my manager, who backed me up.

Granted, we have both been accused of being arseholes - not that we disagreed with the statement, mind you. One of the prerogatives of owning one`s own business.

Yea youre wrong. Business`s make people sign regardless of credit or debit status. FOr the business, it`s simply cheaper than to go for the much more secure route of chip and pin.

tedgp, with our new credit card processing company, any debit sales over $45 we save money if we run it as debit and a PIN is used. Before we signed we did run everything as credit since fees are nuts and it was just easier.
