    Bleh, how many years of flexible-screen product concepts have we been subjected to? It`ll be awesome when it comes, for sure, but it ain`t coming soon.

    Yeah this actually is possible and not years from now either. I just watched a demo where they showed how bending the corners and other bending actions would actually cause different things to happen. They call those "gestures" so like bending the top corners would advance pages back and forward etc. Really cool stuff. Any yes it is a bendable screen and circuitry. My only concern is how many times can it bend before breaking internally because every material has a limit. But if this worked and had a reasonable life span it would finally be a phone I would shell out 300 to 400 for.

    I love the watch. Quality joking there. It started off quite believable and possibly marketable, working its way nicely into silliness. I might have had it projecting an image of Princess Leia asking Obi-Wan Kenobi for help, but that would probably be gilding the lily.

    i dont want thinner! i want a giant battery that will last more then 18 hours!!!!

    STAIR battery should end its research phase next year. A couple of years ago they had working prototypes with 5 times the charge to weight ratio of Li-ion batteries. They were expecting to develop that to 10x by the end of the research phase.

    There are other projects in R&D at the moment, with several different technologies. Lot of money in batteries nowadays and there will be more in the future. Volume will be in handheld computers such as "phones", but 10x Li-ion gives you a car with a range of 250 miles and a battery weighing 50Kg. That makes battery swapping stations a fairly straightforward thing, which would be a big step to making electric cars viable. Battery R&D is a good investment for future profit, so it`s being done.

    Although STAIR is a university project with very little funding, others are commercial.

    @Ripper398,

    It`s not actually coming out. There have been a bunch of these fake concepts. The biggest giveaway is that Android is featured prominently in the photos. Samsung builds phones with multiple operating systems and has most recently started developing one with it`s home country.

    It would be a huge pain to deal with a phone like this. Every time you pulled it out of your pocket it would be twisted in to some unrecognizable shape that you`d need to untangle before using.

    Have seen flexible screens at E3 conventions past. First editions will not be as pretty as the ones in the post and will most definitely have hard parts on these `flexible` devices b/c hey, the screen is floppy, not the processor, battery, storage or most other components of the phone. Eventually though...

    Does anyone know if those flexible AMOLED screens suffer from material fatigue like metal does?

    Will they start cracking or will the material transparency be affected if you fold them in the same are over and over again as you use them?

    This is actually not that far off. Flexible LEDs are getting more common (polymer OLEDs) and flexible screens are out there too. This is probably possible in a one-off prototype with some inflexible areas. And technology moves so fast that if something is possible in one off prototype it`s often not much more than a few years for it to be mass market given demand.
