I`d guess the hole was made by a woodpecker and discovered by a squirrel. And then the video was titled by a typical amateur video title writer.

The youtube title said `squirrels`, the video text said `woodpeckers`; I`d `a been called wrong either way ;). Doomncandy has the only theory that sounds right to me. Props. (costumes too if you like those...)

Stored by Woodpeckers? Last i checked, woodpeckers eat grubs in wood and dont carry acorns to be stored for winter.

Squirrel worked so hard for nothing. I think he would have had some rot issues the following year however, there is no way he could eat all that alone in one winter.

They are saying the acorns were put in the device by a squirrel, but a woodpecker made the hole in the first place.

Woodpecker or squirrel, doesn`t matter... does anybody else feel bad for the animal that put all that work into finding and storing all those acorns?

Woodpeckers and acorns do not go together at all.

Woodpeckers don`t collect nuts. The video is wrong, it`s probably squirrels. Woodpeckers only eat bugs.

So now, when the squirrels come back in the winter to get to the nuts that were stored there, what then? They`re going to be pissed. They`re going to find this man and go all carnivore on his ass.

"@scuzoid calm down"

It`s legitimately my favorite part. It applies to women as well. Take a guess as to why I enjoy the occasions of young women over/under estimating measurements.

But no, really, I`m clearly foaming over here.

Woodpeckers, squirrels; what ever, they are both retarded... why not just eat them instead of storing enough to feed a third world country of squirrels -.-

"300+ pounds? i don`t think so"

My favorite part about young people (I spent a lot of time in the military where the average age is 19, I think.) is how terribly inaccurate they are at guessing measurements. Be it time, distance, speed, or weight (The measurements we generally regularly have to guess on.)

You see the 5 gallon bucket. You see the 35-50 gallons of nuts. That was a guess on their part. They didn`t fill the bucket every time, but they knew they made about ~12 trips with that bucket, and each time the bucket probably weighed about 25 lbs. 300+ easily.

The best part was the picture near the end.

"All I`ve got is this five gallon bucket in the back of the truck."
"Oh, that`ll be more than enough Joe."
