This is Nancy Upton from Dallas, Texas. When Upton heard about American Apparel”s search for a plus-size model to promote its new XL clothing line (a contest the company is calling “The Next Big Thing“), she decided to submit her application. Not as a chance to ignite a modeling career, but to out American Apparel for what she thinks is segregating larger women from thinner women.
“I dont believe that beauty should be qualified as BECAUSE of someones size or IN SPITE of someones size. Beauty is beauty, its fluid, its objective and it doesnt need to be justified to or by anyone,” she writes on her blog. You”ll find lots more photos of her there.
The funny thing is, Upton is currently in first place (out of 991 submissions) in the Next Big Thing contest (which looks like it”s going to be reader chosen). Go vote for her and let”s see how this thing turns out.
Good luck, Nancy.
PS: I”d hit it in a non-chauvistic way.
