Surprised he`s let the news do this report, exposing how big of a complete loser he is. And people wonder why we`re in a recession, one reason is ass-bags like this. I`ve always hated firemen.

At this point, I can`t tell if you`re trolling or just stupid.

One story of a man who is perhaps,(one story is not the whole story)taking advantage of the system does not indicate a fatal flaw in the system. There are also many stories of the system taking advantage of the man. No system can ever be perfect. We can try and do the best we possibly can with a system, but it will never be perfect.

Let`s see, on the one hand, we have a documented case of a public sector union employee ripping off the taxpayers under terms of a contract negotiated with elected Democrat politicians who are getting huge kickbacks from compulsory union dues which are ultimately paid for by taxpayers, and on the other hand, we have a baseless slander with a not-so-clever picture.

Ollie for the win!

And by the way, Archer, Friedman`s fallacy is that capitalism has succeeded.

Every time Archer shows up, he says "ad hominem" or identifies a fallacy. He seems to spend a lot of time studying up on arguing. I guess the Randians like to read another book or two once in a while after all.

"What a crock." This guy is lazy, marathons aside. He has no right to accept this money when there are people struggling to find one. We don`t have the money as individual Americans to waste on selfish people like this, but, sadly, it`s already more widespread than one would hope.

In such cases it would make more sense to pay for education that would allow him entrance to another field of work. Pay him a stipend contingent on his registering, attending and passing courses that would enable him to do that. It`s a shame (If)he was hurt on the job, but I`m unaware that other professions allow you a free ride. Except of course, politics.

did i hear right, 15% disabled in one arm? if he`s able to run marathons he`s able to go to college, get a job, and get off disability.

just because he`s not entirely able to do a job he loves doesn`t give him the right to get $70,000+ in tax-free cash and benefits.

i`d call him a lazy freak but there`s nothing lazy about training for a marathon, so i guess he`s just a freeloading freak.

hope he loses all of his benefits and loses them soon.

@Revolutioniz: You could`ve fooled me; I could`ve sworn you were the child because of your failure to capitalize the first word in your sentence and your obvious comma splice.

I bet you`re only one year older than I am. Still, I`m glad that you found a way to feel superior to me and boost your ego.

@Gerry: And to think I used to think you were funny.

@reidcook1000: yup, it`s _that_ easy. You just have to file two accidents, apply for disability, get examined by two different doctors who declare you permanently disabled and voila! free money. Everybody should try it.

@Gerry1of1: I never said to abolish a system because of one flaw; if anything I said, to the effect, that this was one of the MANY reasons why socialism is bad and why it should be abolished.

Also, I never said that any charitable program is socialism; that would be ridiculous! How would you think that I thought this?

Keep in mind that the fire department is not charity; the people of Wisconsin are forced at the point of a gun to pay for them. Charity implies "charitable"--taxes are anything but that.

Socialism is a system of initiating force, so socialism is bad. Charity is about voluntary action with the consent of all parties involved, so charity is good.

@ M_Archer - No, I didn`t answer my own question. One case of abuse doesn`t not indicate a flaw with an entire system {which you blamed}. Not even if it`s a socialist system.

P.S. Look up `socialism`. It does not mean every cheritable program is "socialist".
Words...wow

@Gerry1of1: You answered your own question--government regulations, taxes, and the government giving tax money to disabled people are socialist policies.

@Baalthazaq: And I`m sure I could find an equally ridiculous anecdote involving a baker who refused to sell his bread to someone without money and a tailor who refused to make an haute couture dress for someone who couldn`t afford it--what`s your point? Are you implying that bakeries and clothing stores should be government funded and run as well?

Your use of the Appeal to Pity Fallacy isn`t convincing anyone.

Don`t give me this bull that "all my experience and education is in firefighting, that`s all I know." At 27 or 28 years old, I think he could have collected disability for some time, while learning some other skill or getting some other job. He`s a douche. There are plenty of people missing limbs and eyeballs and fingers and all sorts of body parts that can still work.

Love how he bumped it on the kitchen counter at work, too - not like he did it saving someone from a fire or something.

I just got done wathing Fox News interview with this guy. He asked for a desk/paper job...Volunteered to work but the Fire Dept. said "disability or get a differant job"

Given the choice of $50K or quit...I`d take the $50K too.

Ugh, this is exactly why I hate itemizing.

Fox news will run 10 minutes every other day about some fireman they went out of their way to find who is bending the rules to justify people like Perry/Walker/Etc cutting 80% of the firefighting budget in their states.

Ignoring of course that Perry then goes on to beg for federal funding to make up the shortfall.

Anecdotes are cool. They beat out facts any day of the year.

A $50K in an anecdotes will always beat out $23`000K Perry-backed-cuts in a pie chart showing what is actually going on.

"Firefighting should be a business".
Well, I could give you the stats, but if you prefer anecdotes, then here.

M Archer - "I`m blaming socialist policies"

Really? Disability is a `socialist policy`?
How about this guy is just cheeting with a loophole in disability regulations.
Disability is an insurance policy. You pay `disability insurance` tax.

There will all be abusers of any system. When they`re found out, like this guy, deal with him appropriately, not use it as an excuse to attack the entire system.

I find this objectionable. They`re vox popping people on the street for their opinion as part of the news story? Bit subjective? And he doesn`t claim he can`t run, or swim or ride a bike. He claims he can`t raise a ladder, or carry someone out of a burning building maybe, without dropping them on their head. Might be important.

Also, why should he get another job? He told the fire dept he`d do any other job for them and that he`d love to have his old job back, they didn`t take him. I`d do the same thing if I were him. If the fire dept wants to be stupid, let them.

The fact that this guy hit his funny bone, uses that to collect 50,000+ a year and won`t get a job is bad enough. But to run marathons and brag about his ability to do them in spite of a "disability" is beyond the pale. I think of war veterans and 9/11 fireman who were injured in the line of duty, and the hellish PT they had to just to get back to some kind of normalcy in their life. When they do marathons, it`s really inspiring. When this goldbricking pooebird does it, I feel like punching him in his smug, able-bodied face. What a complete waste of money and space. I hope this interview (that I still can`t believe he agreed to do) ends up costing him his "disability" checks. non-nice individual.
