I have not cried like that in a good long time. This comes hand and hand with having a dog. I did this with my dog when he was suffering multi organ failure. It`s a truly horrific experience. But with life, comes death.

I kinda skipped through the video because I didn`t wanna cry . We put our dog down last year, she was so sick she could hardly walk and was in a lot of pain . She always loved humans though so even though none of us were in the room when she was put down she was still really happy/wagging her tail being around people until her last moment :) Part of the reason I didn`t go is because when we had to have our cat put down a few years ago, I went with and honestly the strongest memory I have of her is taking her to get put down and handing her over to the vet. Maybe I`m selfish but I didn`t want that to happen again.

I had to put my dog to sleep two months ago. My 25 year old daughter picked her out when she was a puppy 15 years ago. My dog had been in failing health for six months. Her last 2 days...she wouldn`t eat or drink anything. Even she knew. So, I told my daughter it was time. She drove an hour to get to my house so she could say good-bye to her dog. We took her to the vet and then, lovingly, had her put to sleep. We then had a ceremony and buried her in the back yard.
Dogs not only teach us about unconditional love...they show us how to express it ourselves.

I had to put my dog down a few months ago. I`ve had her my entire life, she was 16 when she had to be put down and I`m 16. She`s a German Shepherd and she had to be put down because of hip dysplasia. Through the years I always raced her and she`d beat me. The day that I was able to run faster than her I realized something was going wrong with her.

I miss her, she never barked, never bit anyone, and she taught our other small dogs not to bite by gently clamping their neck if they ever nipped at her. Her food dish is still in the backyard, no one has the heart to get rid of it. :(

OK, that made me tear up, Odin, looks a bit like my boy, and since i`ve had my boy, basicly i`ve been through poo, piss and then some. he truly is my best friend, when friends and family left me to it,
he didn`t judge, alway`s welcomed me home, gave me a hug when i needed it. basicly if it wasn`t for him i wouldn`t be here.
    i feel the man`s pain.
But what you never ever do is cry and feel pooty when you take a dog to be euthanized. you sing and dance so s/he feels good vibes, you don`t let hir feel like something is wrong.

Do you have a dog? I didn`t understand why people were so attached to their dogs until I got my own. She`s my baby. She relies entirely on me and looks to me for protection. Whenever I come home, she`s so excited. No matter how badly I think of myself, she thinks I`m the best living being alive. She loves me unconditionally, and I love her.

We`re human. We are genetically programmed to have feelings about things, to interpret them as meaningful, and build relationships based on them. You over-rationalize this essential aspect of being human and sterilize the world, making it a cold, dead place to inhabit because it makes you feel intellectually superior to the feeling humans around you. Good luck with that.

I cried. We had to put my dog Comet down two years ago. He was about 15 and he stopped eating, he couldn`t walk anymore and he was in terrible pain. We had someone come to the house and do it because he hated getting in cars and going to strange places. I held him while he died. And it was the hardest thing I`ve ever gone through. He`d been my best friend since I was 5.

@burbclaver - You can have whatever opinion you want. But have respect for the people here who were moved or upset by this. Stop being so cold and hateful.

Listen burbs. I couldn`t find the will to make it through your block of text. You can think what you want about people and the connection they have to their pets, but all you have been doing is trolling and saying how people who are saddened by this are over-emotional. So yes, If you are just going to troll you should be banned. That is all.

Ok, I decided to dredge through your post after all. So you dislike bad owners? So does everyone on here. But that is completely irrelevant to what`s going on here, the dog had fuc*ing cancer. All you have been doing is trolling people who have actually had to make the decision to put down a friend, just to exalt yourself above them with your facade of a cold-hearted, over-analytical persona. So yes, I hope you feel the keen sting of Davymid`s banhammer. Good day sir.

How sad is it that we can afford our pets more compassion then the people we love. They have to suffer to the end while a dog or cat we love just as much gets a quick and painless end to it surrounded by the people that love it and care so much to not let it suffer.

No, I think trolling is going out of your way to be a jerk. Expressing an opinion is one thing but being a butthead about something is another. Somebody posted an emotional piece. If you don`t agree fine, but are your comments really necessary or appropriate? Then you demand respect that you yourself are not willing to give to others?

@elbat and burclaver: you`re both jackasses and lack souls.

when i was unemployed (long-term) and about to lose my home i was shunned like a leper. the only ones in my life who could or would give me emotional support at that time were my dogs. they were the only ones who gave me any kind of will to live. without the responsibility i felt for them i would have easily given up and ended my life.

we eventually ended up in a good place with a good man who had an ancient little dog he doted on. he and i knew that we`d have to euthanize the dog some day but with constant loving care from the entire household (dogs included) his dog`s last year was happy and comfortable. we both cried that last day but knew we were providing a final kindness.

i feel sorry for both of you. i pity the fact that you lack the basic human-ness to be able to feel something as pure as the affection of a pet. its also sad that therapy doesn`t cure such sociopathic tendencies.

I has a sad now. I don`t have a dog, but I have two extremely affectionate ratties whom I love to death; you`d better believe I`m hugging the drat out them right now.

Wow, this was the first youtube vid that ever really made me cry. It just hit home, due to the fact that my dog was just killed from cancer :(

Now that I`m done crying like a bitch, do they really go that quickly and peacefully? I`ve never had a pet put down before?

TL;DW: guy who can`t cope with life takes drugs, has trips about his dog and Jesus, dog gets cancer, guy gets dog put down, can`t cope with reality, thinks dog is with Jesus.

Silly Christian, dogs have no soul!

I`ve got a heart, and two dogs. Once lost a loved one to cancer as well. So true about being unconditional. I do not know about love, but they are truly unconditional, maybe that`s all one should thrive to become.
