Jamey Rodemeyer, Gay Teen, Bullied After Death

Submitted by: fancylad 6 years ago in

Remember the kid last week who committed suicide because of the bullying he took as a gay kid? The bullies aren"t done.

Holy poo! How are these parents not a friggin` wreck! Especially talking about the death and basically sh!itting on the grave of their kid! If my Daughter went away in this capacity (PLEASE FORBID THIS)... I probably couldn`t speak for months! And they are talking about it like it was a petty fight or something. YOUR CHILD DIED! That`s literally ranked #2 on the worst poo that can happen to you! Either these folks are robots or sociopaths. Even the Ramsey`s faked some crying.

"And I`m sure somewhere there`s an Atheist who is randomly homophobic"

There are lots of them - they use junk science to defend their prejudice, like `if everyone was gay humanity would die out in one generation`. And then there are the atheists who pretend to support gays and lesbians, but insist that anti-gay interpretations of the Bible are absolutely correct, so they can b*tch about Christians.

Atheism is a prejudice, it is just another way for one group of people to claim that everyone else is inferior.

with any luck, these bigots will brag about it on facebook, and then never get a job outside of fast food the rest of their lives.

@Rick_S, "My kids are zoned to go to the same high school as this kid. I want the world to know that the kids that did this (bullying after death) are in the minority. The vast majority of people are very much against the hate spewed towards this poor boy."

I hear ya, I`m from Texas, everyone not from the bible belt tends to think we are all rabid Christian maniacs frothing at the mouth. There are stupid people everywhere and decent ones too.

At least it shows that this small minded religious bigotry isn`t confined to the South. It`s a nation wide problem, luckily our country seems to be slowly coming to it`s senses.

Sometimes I really miss the old days, when you could just take a couple of punks like this and whip the crap out of them after school, and you never had to worry about them being idiots again.

I get that bullies feel uninhibited behind an anonymous computer screen or text message, but what kind of person can chant "we`re glad you`re dead" at a school dance after this? That`s just soulless & cruel.

We as a species are devolving.

I don`t know of a single athiest who has a problem with gays. Plenty of faithful-folk I know do, but not one athiest.

"@ Batmanners: How are atheists ignorant? "
"Yeah, the athiest comment you made, batmanners, makes no sense. Athiests have no qualms with gay people."

I meant the Atheists who are who are ignorant (homophobic) would probably not love them as much as anyone else. I wrote that in a way that it didn`t make it seem like I meant all Atheists were ignorant, but of course if you read it differently, it does come off the wrong way. I had initially written "the intolerant religious" and "the ignorant Atheists", but that DID make it sound like I was generalizing them.

Again, I was only referring to The people that are both:
1. Religious or Atheist, and;
2. intolerant or ignorant

Not a generalization, just the specific individuals that are Atheist AND ignorant, or religious AND intolerant.

I know what you mean but it`s very feasible that the video in a sense back-fired making him a target. I remembered a campaign at a local school where kids would don wristbands as a stand against bullying. Ironically it made them more likely to get bullied.

@ Batmanners: How are atheists ignorant? I take offense to this wholeheartedly. Just because I am an atheist doesn`t mean we have no sense of morals or decency. I think all people should be treated equally, despite religion, race or sexual preference. It sounds to me that you are the ignorant one. How about this: Take your own advice hypocrit!

He made an "It gets better" video... he should have taken his own advice rather than his life.

Suicide is never the answer to bullying.

These drating stories are so sad. I hate that it ever has to come to this.

If you`re a gay teen, just remember that after high school, everybody gay or straight loves you for who you are, except the religious folk who are intolerant and the atheists who are ignorant. Don`t ever be afraid to speak up to everybody, absolutely everybody to make sure everyone knows about the bullying. Keep your friends around you at all times, even if they are girls (douchey jocks will very rarely pick on the gay kid if there are girls around to impress, girls don`t have to be as afraid of being hit by a guy in public and are usually pretty good at ruining a reputation)

I was bullied everyday in school, and it sucked. I hated my life on just about every level. My sister`s boyfriend (now brother in law) gave me the best advice ever. "Don`t let yourself be bullied... bully back, work on your comebacks to shut them up. If it`s going to get physical, surround yourself with a few big misfits - the kind of guys who don`t fit in either. Don`t fall victim."

It worked. It took time, but in the end, the bullying stopped. And two of the worst bully-ers got their asses kicked by my misfit friends.

In all, I consider what I got pretty realistic, sound advice. Going to lady gaga for support is, well, not very effective.

just take a look at that family picture by the river. they look like strangers. noone is hugging anyone. when a kid says "hey I`m am gay and I get bullied for that" and then commits suicide where is his family before that? And it`s not about being gay. Every classroom has a gay boy or girl. We never bullied them. I was bullied for being tall. Really bad comments. Should I kill my self? In the opposite I am proud and happy for being the tallest girl for ages in my school.

I don`t know if there should be a federal anti-bullying law, but there should be anti-bullying policies in school. Where I went to school, a bully could only get in trouble if it was directed at a teacher or if they physically harmed someone, even though most bullying is peer on peer emotional attacks which are just as damaging, if not more-so, as physical attacks.

"Fixing the problem has to start with the parents of the bullies."

The grieving parents of the victim are equally at fault.

Yes, I have no children. Yes, I`m aware parenthood is a constantly evolving experience, but there IS a reason parents of those who`ve committed suicide (particularly children) ask what they could have done differently.

Fourteen year old children do not need to be superman to accept who they are and defend their right to be. It`s the parents job to prove to their gay kid he can`t be superman, nor can anyone else on this planet. "Tough it out" is as much a cop out as suicide.

Speak softly and carry a big stick. Even if you`re gay.

For people in favor of anti-bully laws consider...
Every day here at IAB all of us bully. We make off color and mean comments about gays, fats, men, women, blacks, asians, hispanics, uglies, retarded, republicans, democrats, environmentalists, animal lovers, corporate ceos... etc.

So, we do it and are we prepared to faced legal charges for it?

Outlawing bullying won`t do anything at all. The simple fact is that bullying has always been there, each and every one of us has suffered it, as well as perpetrated it at some time or another. My father always told me, stand up. Even if you get your ass kicked, the bully will move on because you didn`t make it easy for them...today, the children are taught to just look away, ignore it...this makes it easy for the bully. It`s easy...teach your kid to stand up.

@Gerry1of1:
I totally agree with you.
Fixing the problem has to start with the parents of the bullies. They are the cause of this. Kids can`t choose their parents (it`s not an excuse to behave uncivilized, though).

Banning and outlawing has never stopped anything. People need help, not laws.

Hey I-A-B`ers. As a fellow, bullied gay man (and it DOES get better), a year ago I founded a theatrical company specializing in pieces combatting bullying both in schools and online. Trust Your Gut Productions is a tool for change, but it`s threatened by education cuts and lack of funding. After hearing stories like this, it is becoming more and more apparent that this problem will not go away on its own, nor even with laws put in place against it. It is only through the re-education of our nation`s youth that we can actuate change. Our company helps give kids the confidence and the empowerment to open dialogues about their problems and experiences with bullying; an important step to combatting this ridiculous hatred. Please help, if you can.

Thanks to you all.

A fourteen year old child is dead. Yes, that does bother me. Another group of children bullied this child until he killed himself and now celebrate their victory. That really bothers me.
Bullying can be terrifying and overwhelming. When a fourteen year old has been subject to that environment for as long as they can remember it is very difficult for them to believe it will ever stop. Believe it or not, just saying `hey kid, it gets better` doesn`t change what they experience in their everyday life. So how would you convince yourself every morning and every night that it is worth it to keep living in that world? Don`t judge the kid for his one rash decision, judge the bullies who pushed day after day to make his life a living hell. Please stop speaking out of ignorance. Put yourself in the shoes of this kid`s mother/father/brother/sister/friends, and try to understand through their pain, why this seemingly happy boy is gone.

This is typical American. Outlaw it and it will go away.
No it wont. I feel for the families and victims of bullying. I was bullied in school. But you cannot legeslate everything on the planet that you don`t like. Where is the line between bullying and someones right to free speech in express disaproval? Bill O`Reily bullies every night on tv and he has a legal right to do so.

What I see is a lot of teenagers who have never been held accountable for their behavior. They`ve been coddled all their lives and never faced the consequences of their actions. Never spanked, never disciplined. So why be surprised when those kids have no regard for anyone but themselves?

The other side of that is a generation of kids who cannot handle the hard knocks life will throw at you. They can`t cope. Totally unable to function in a difficult time.

I see a lot of bad parenting going on and then we blame the children when they behave badly.

Before I say anything, I have never once intimidated anyone based on who they are. Their hostile actions, yes, I`ll throw the first punch or get insanely loud and vulgar, but never because of what the person in front of me is.

Now, why is anyone empathizing with this child? I`ve known a number of guys with PTSD and I can understand someone else`s pain, but this I simply can`t. He gets behind the idea of "tough it out" videos, but then decide`s he`s not going to? How does that deserve a community outpouring?

It concerns me when stars like Lady Gaga call out the victims by name and glorify them. Some bullied kid will think, "If I kill myself I will be famous, my life will have had meaning." The stars need to focus on the problem not on a specific victim.

Logic fault.
"I wouldn`t care if you died, no one would. So just do it, it would make everyone way happier"

If people became more happy because of his death, they cared. And the person saying just do it, obviously cares.
The logic in this comment is flawed. And the person should feel bad about the incredibly stupid way he or she tried to hide personal interests.
