Cool, but highly suspect. Perhaps instead of flipping between images with music in the background, the video could present some actual facts like the location and time where these discoveries were made.

Most of the bones are probably real, but not all from the same creature. Why make a giant femur when an elephant one would be about right. They wouldn`t have been human because they`re obviously different enough to be classed as a different species.

"because it`s entirely plausible for a man to be that tall."

While it`s borderline plausible today, it certainly wasn`t at that time when the average height was much smaller.

However, the story of David and Goliath most likely happened to some extent, and Goliath was likely much taller than average. The higher than possible figure most likely comes from a combination of misquoting, mistranslating, rounding up, exaggeration, etc. In the same way that Moses didn`t live to be 120 and that Pi is not 3.

However, unlike what militant atheists would have you believe, these small non factuals do not make the entire bible bs....

    @pfkdxius:

    Nope, Gerry said this:

    "Of course there were giants.
The Bible says so and that settles it.
    I Samuel 17:4 "

Gerry was referring directly to I Samuel 17:4

"4And there came out from the camp of the Philistines a champion named Goliath of Gath, whose height was six cubits and a span."

So no - I mean, I`m _all_ for intelligent discussion, but that was trolling =D

Gerry is usually quite entertaining, but he posited that something was ridiculous even though it`s not actually, and honestly, the sheer volume of unmitigated hatred against Christians, including unnecessary, and completely out of place comments such as this on here is baffling.

It would physically be impossible for a human to be that big. For one a person would need a heart that would just about fill the whole chest cavity to circulate the blood. Secondly a person would need hyper active lungs to draw in enough oxygen. And finally the bones would of the person would be crushed by the weight of the body.

Modern humans, once they get past 8.5 feet or so, have difficulty moving around and die young. That`s probably about the limit for being both very tall and physically formidable. Very rare.

Let`s be generous and say Goliath was around 8.5 and David, being a young lad, was maybe 5 feet tall and a bit. That`s a spectacular difference to onlookers (basically, you are eye to eye with his navel), but irrelevant to a slingshot to the skull. Size doesn`t matter if the the other side is using projectiles.

More likely Goliath was a feeble freak around 7 and a bit, barely able to walk, padded out and used to psyche out the other side. Maybe David was smart enough to see through that.

Take your biggest and baddest with armour and sword against a smart shrimp with a good eye and a .38. No contest.

But it looks epic and gets the kid a rep. Everything follows from that.

Actually if you take the bible in the context of when it was compiled, when it was written, and when the events it referred to took place, I don`t really have a problem with some of the "inaccuracies" of the bible.

You are anachronistically judging it by the same standards you would a book written in modern times about recent events. If you consider the bible in large part to be a historical text, as I do, it can in no way be put to the same standards as a historical text written in the 20th century...

In my opinion, questioning Christianity in general based on some of these "inaccuracies" is like saying that because "300" is over the top the Second Persian Invasion of Greece probably didn`t happen. Of course I would consider myself a modern Christian, aka a heretic to many zealots who take the bible as a word for word message from God, so take what I say with a grain of salt....

Militant atheism is a religion in and of itself.

Extremism and desperation is the real problem, and unfortunately humans often channel that through religion. Thinking that ending religions will end extremism and bring some sort of peace on earth is completely naive. Case in point, the USSR was vehemently atheist, and it was violent and repressive. Does that mean atheism is bad? No, not intrinsically. Is religion violent or evil? No, again not intrisically, even though people use it as a tool to project their hatred, anger, violence etc.... If they didn`t have religion they would use something else...

I was generalizing, but again you are looking at things from a completely anachronistic point of view. You can`t apply standards of a historical text in modern academia to texts written millenias ago.

I don`t think we`d know much about Kheops if the archeologists who scoured the Giza Pyramids decided that the Hieroglyphs there weren`t properly footnoted and should be ignored....

"In my opinion, questioning Christianity in general based on some of these "inaccuracies" is like saying that because "300" is over the top the Second Persian Invasion of Greece probably didn`t happen."

The problem is that the basis of the Christian faith is bound to the idea that this Bible of your`s is the "word of God." If it is found to be inconsistent, inaccurate and/or contradictory then one must question that very foundation. If it`s the word of God, who is supposedly a perfect being, and it is found to be imperfect, then you have a quandary: either the book is wrong and not the word of God at all but some fanciful scribblings of 4000 year old, bronze age, goat herding, desert-dwelling savages, or God is fallible and therefore, not worthy of such blind devotion, respect and worship.

Further, no one kills or persecutes anyone in the name of Leonidas. 300 is known to be a fictitious account of an ancient event. That`s accepted by every sane person who has knowledge of it. There is no question. No one has created a globe-spanning religion around it. Sadly, your Bible has not been held to the same scrutiny by its fan-base.

...and to the religious right in general. Don`t you find it a bit contradictory to say that the Bible is the "The Word of God" and then say it is blasphemy to claim to know the mind of God. I`ve said it before. The bible was written thousands of years ago to keep the un-educated in fear and in line with the powers of the day. Today, it is still being used that way but in reality, it should be nothing more than light reading that you can glean some "life tips" out of by use of stories and parables...no more or no less than Aesop`s Fables.

Hellboy was/is a graphic novel series with mythological overtones that was later turned into a series of movies. Christianity does not corner the market on demonology or mythical monsters. Nor is it the only religion that deals in them.

You do realize that Christianity is not the only religion in the world? Or were you just looking to get offended so you`d have a reason to play the victim, as so many of your cohorts do?

    @sethmccary,

    *chuckle*

So which Bible are we talking about, here? The Hebraic Tanakh & Talmud? The Greek Orthodox? The Romanian Orthodox? The Catholic Bible? The Protestant Bible? The Masoretic Texts? The Samaritan Pentateuch, the Dead Sea scrolls? The Gnostic Bible? How about any of the heretical texts? Maybe the COTLDS Bible? There are so many.

Or maybe you`d like to quibble about translations? The Aramaic Targums or The Greek Septuagint, maybe? Do you like the Cyril of Jerusalem version or the Athanasius of Alexandria version? How does Jerome`s Vulgate strike you?

Hell, the Koran is often called, in colloquial parlance, "The Muslim Bible." Maybe The Satanist Bible? I even own a few books like the "Programmer`s Bible," "The mechanic`s Bible," and the "Hacker`s Bible." Shall we talk about one of them?

    Careful, your ignorance is showing.

The Egyptian clip isn`t a depiction of giant people. The larger the person expressed in the art the more important they were in their society or the more rich they were, but I still don`t know why one seems to be eating one of their young. I do think there are references to giants in the one and only bible, the Christian bible. about when some angels came down and mated with earthly women and then they bore giants, though I can`t remember all the way so don`t quote me, read it for yourself if ya interested . David and Goliath was tale about a giant Philistine.

FAKE. There`s no such thing as giant humans. Those are just normal sized skeletons with archeological elves digging them up.

Wow, you and L.J. should get married. Anyway, allow me to clarify.
First. I chose Hellboy for my avatar because I like the special effects make up. It`s cool.
Second. It`s not a religious movie. It`s a graphic novel. "The Ten Commandments" is a religious movie which I also liked and also for the same reason.
Third. I was raised Catholic and I personally don`t believe in God or organized religion in any form. I especially don`t like it when the religious right tries to force their beliefs on me (or anyone for that matter) and tells me I`m going to burn in Hell if I don`t repent. To them I say: Kiss my ass.
I believe our "soul", if you will, is a state of energy that transforms after death to become something...more. Now maybe that`s religion but it`s mine and it soothes me at night and doesn`t require a bible. Can`t ask for more than that can you?

If this was real there would be video footage, not just still pictures. Also would like to point out that if all these separate skeletons existed, why is this the first I`ve seen of it. Why has no magazine or newspaper covered it? I`m not saying I`m up to date on all that is news, I`m just saying why is this the first I`ve ever heard of it. Looks like it would be all over the news if it were real.
