Actually, I think it`s basically the idea that you can`t make up faces.

How could they possibly determine that everybody in your dreams is someone you met in life? Do they have some kind of universal dream recorder? Somebody just said that and the rest just parrot him.

So I lost 25,000,000 cells in (approx) 5 seconds. That`s 432 billion cells in a day. But my body will make 300 billion. I`m supposed to be happy about that? Just another reason to be depressed today.
Just call me Eeyore

I love how in that bit about repopulating Dallas, they put "Guys" in parenthesis, as if we needed to know that dudes have testicles.

Not all cells in the body get replaced, the ones that control your heartbeat don`t and neither does your brain, and you get a new skeleton every 10 years, not 7.

Just to clarify on #1, the co-discoverer of DNA suggested that sleep was a way to rid the mind of unimportant memories. While only a suggestion, I feel it holds more credit worth than a bunch of colored text on a white background.

Um, Watson didn`t have 16 TB of RAM, that would be ridiculous. It would have had 16TB of storage.

Therefore: the rest of this is probably false, too.

@StillCrazee

I don`t think it`s possible to prove with our current technology. Scientists aren`t even sure WHY we dream. But it makes sense. With the amount of memory "space" we have in our brain, why should our minds have to create a new face? Why not just pull a face out of our memory?

"It was referring to people, all the people you have seen in your dreams, you have seen in some way or another in real life."

How is that FACT? Prove it.

[quote]Uunxx, how can you be so sure you`re right? Unfortunately not, because we don`t store data that simply. It currently appears that a large majority of what we "remember" is actually made up as we "remember" it. We only store a little and even that might not be an actual memory of anything that actually happened.

Humans are amazing, but not in the way described here.

*compare it to a computer`s RAM

and you`re calling IT an idiot

Given that the very first sentence is flat out wrong (we actually don`t remember anything that happens, only our brain`s impressions of what happened, which very often have very little to do with the actual events), I figure the rest of it isn`t worth believing either.

1. No, you dont keep all the information but cant recall it, you keep most of it but new things sort of `distort` it. As new pathways are being made, old ones may become obsolete and die, thus losing a memory.

If we`re capable of storing up to 1000TB of data, that would refer to HDD not RAM. RAM is random access memory, not permanent storage.

The IBM computer may have 16tb of RAM, but it could also have hundreds of times that in HDD storage attached at any one time - it would beat the storage capacity of the brain hands down even if the above figures were correct... which I doubt.

1. No way to prove it
3. Brain is analog device, it works very different than computers, no way to check/prove and convert its memory capacity into terabytes
5. Just think of it, how could possibly anybody find it out and prove scientifically. Somebody should view dreams of all people in the world and compare all faces in these dreams to all faces of people in real world. Complete BS

THe first one with the brain is definitely untrue.
Within the first half second of seeing/hearing something, the brain filters out the signals that are important and throws away the useless signals.
Building synapsis for useless information energetically ineffective.
