    Sweet... one step close to zombie world. So what will be first zombies or robots to take over the world!

    All nerve repair will do is bring feeling back to disabled limbs. Not resurrect a dead person..

    Also, perhaps the scientists could somehow salvage the axon growth inhibitors to have medication specifically damage the axons in a certain area of the body and restricting axon growth temporarily, becoming a fast acting painkiller, but at the expense of losing all feeling wherever the pain is.

    We always new that peripheral nerves (ie the ones in your arms & legs) can regrow, but CNS (ie brain and spine) can`t. This just gives us a mechanism, not sure how useful it will be, I`d worry if you inhibit they growth inhibitor that you could develop CNS tumors. We`ll see if this leads anywhere though, good find.

    Don`t you guys watch zombie movies? There is never mention of zombies until it is too late. I`ve wanted to get a rifle for a while... maybe this is a sign that I should?

    Nothing stated in here has anything to do with zombies. And those of you who speak of immortality or resurrection are idiots and don`t understand basic biology /facepalm Nerves = feeling ... cells = life. If it was cellular regeneration, then yes we`re talking about never aging and never dying of old age.

    Actually, if you think about it, this would be the end to a zombie apocalypse. If zombies were capable of feeling pain, they would run away from people (or be unable to move after getting shot because the pain was so bad). Eventually they would avoid humanity at all costs and cases of Zombies would be minimal. Then we`d hunt them down from helicopters. Mass extinction of the zombie race. Course...getting this into the zombie population would be a problem.

    I digress. Clearly, Piperfawn (or IAB if they changed his original caption) does not understand biology.

    Of course, if zombies could feel pain, they would also feel pleasure, giving them an incentive to reproduce. So while they`re hiding out from shotgun-wielding day-walkers, they can be making zombie babies.

    even if zombies could feel pain, they would still need the brain power to realize getting shot going after a human is going to hurt. It would only help slow their attacks down, but it wouldnt stop them from coming altogether

    ooo, knockout mutants... science has made a giant leap!!!

    /sarcasm

    There are tons of ways they could have done this... knockouts, upregulation, gene silencing/ RNAi... or even just running all the cellular proteins on an SDS gel and cutting the axon then doing it again and doing a `spot the difference`

    meh

    You`re right. Let`s just go with our original plan. o.o;;

    Nerves are made of neural cells.
    Nerve regeneration = cellular regeneration.

    @Isobel, by nerve-regeneration, they mean the dendrites and axons are regrowing, not the cell-body. The cell body is very much alive, just not able to communicate. Thus, no cell-regeneration is going on.
