Grandma has Do Not Resuscitate tattooed onto her chest to tell docs to let her die. Gran is hardcore for life.

i`ve seriously considered adding this to my assortment of tats, but as mentioned at the end of the article, medical professionals would ignore it anyway. so i guess i`ll get some more flowers instead.

Her choice there; she doesn`t look like she regrets getting that tattoo.

I imagine she has a bracelet anyway, she`s just trying to make a statement.

@tvremote: On her right wrist, that`s a medical bracelet. It probably has the DNR order on it, as well.

Here`s the thing, as an EMT, if I were on the call when she dies I`d see the tattoo and it would give me a hint that I should have someone (police, fire, or partner) look for a DNR order while I started CPR and cardiac arrest protocols.

She could just get a DNR bracelet like a normal person. Not at all uncommon. Although if she does have a bracelet and just felt like getting a tattoo as well, then that`s just awsome

If she doesn`t have a legal DNR document, no matter what the tat says, she MUST be resuscitated legally.

@Rick_S - a tattoo is not a legal DNR. Doesn`t matter the place or time. If I saw this I`d stop for second, smirk, and move on with resuscitation.

Rick_s:

I know it sucks but there are a lot of protective processes that go into a DNR order including making sure the person isn`t coerced/forced into the decision. A tattoo unfortunately isn`t a legal DNR order. how do medical staff know it isn`t a joke/ how do they know if she changed her mind after getting the tattoo?

I don`t think a tattoo could qualify as a DNR order though.

"Very witty. Unfortunately, if a medic saw that and she needed resuscitating they`d still have to do CPR."

Why? Her wishes are quite clear. She`s a DNR.

In New York State, our drivers` licenses have ORGAN DONOR, with a little heart on the front if you`re one. Why not put a DNR on there, too?

what`s wrong with this? it`s a personal choice if you want a DNR request or not (personally I want them to do anything and all to save me if I`m dying)....but most people put this in their living will and then in a crisis, a paramedic isn`t going to check if you`re DNR, they`ll just do what they can at the time....so um, if she really feels strongly about it, a tattoo is probably the best way to go

Not hardcore. She`s a comic editor. The really cynical kind of comedy.

She worked on things like:

and

So, now I know what kind of depressed person writes that type thing...
