    "Building codes are building codes."

    Exactly.

If they don`t like building codes being applied to everyone equally (you know...like laws are in a fair society), then they should fight to vote them off the books...

...and then not complain when an apartment block collapses on them next time they go into town on a visit.

This is just the beginning of government harassment against isolationists and independent self-reliant people. They`ve been targeting organic farms and free range animal ranches as well.

Clearly something is up here. Some of the people literally had no neighbors to complain about codes. They are in the middle no where.

Also, throughout the past few years there have been a few cases of the government being overly aggressive for "codes". "We dont like that bush, destroy your house and move away", seems unreasonable. The purpose of the code is to keep value high for people who want to buy the land, but in this case, there is no one who wants to buy land in the middle of the desert.

@kittyloaf I agree the the unspecified neighbor that complaines is lame, but codes aren`t there to keep the value of the land high. They are the "best practices" that are put there to keep people safe and to make sure people don`t do thinks that could endanger their live and the lives of other people. some of them suck, but the law is the law

I don`t believe in conspiracy theories, but when the county government goes out of its way to make up stupid excuses about why people have to leave, it`s clear their up to something. For example, the guy who was told he was violating zoning laws because
    1) Bushes around the outside of his property
    2) The position of his shed
    3) He has a trailer on his property
After fixing all of these issues they told him he has to leave his property anyways. It`s clear they`re just making up excuses to kick people off of their property.
And then at the end, his press secretary says that they`re just responding to complaints, saying they`re just "conspiracy theories", acting like they have the best interest of the residents in mind... That`s a load of horse poo.
I just want to know what the county wants to do with that land.

Type55 & Musuko: There is always more than one way to live safely. There is no law that says you must be connected to the electrical grid, the water systems, or other city services, especially when those services do not even reach your property.

You can drill a water well, store water in cisterns, erect windmills and solar panels for electrical power, install a septic system, recycle your trash, grow your own food, raise your own animals and live totally free from the outside world.

The problem is the government is scared of people that live independently like that, they don`t have control over them, so they harass and investigate them endlessly.

"There is always more than one way to live safely."

Then they should fight to get the law changed, not ignore and disobey it.

You can`t just choose to obey the laws you like and disobey the laws you don`t. You as a conservative, CrakrJak, should be amongst the FIRST to be saying this!

You should also be the first to say that they AREN`T living free from the outside world! Don`t they have billions of dollar`s worth of civilisation, law enforcement and military surrounding them on all sides, providing the environment for them to live free within?

No building codes are not just building codes. They vary depending where you live. It also depends on when the structures were built, and what areas are zoned such as residential, commercial, and agricultural. I highly doubt based on time period and zoning these structures are out of compliance when they were built. They are playing on these peoples ignorance, and should get, and invest in a real estate lawyer. Lawsuits usually do the job.

Basically some one or some people have their eye on the land for what ever reasoning. It`s the same history with the Native Americans past. The greedy feels no pity or remorse.

This video really hit home for me. Litterally. I grew up in this area,(but the more populated areas, I was not a dessert rat) It is sad to see that developement is more important than some ones lively hood. The AV was fairly small when I was a child and safe to live in. Now Gangs are taking over the small cities and causing havoc. My Brother is CHP for the AV and My husband and I moved for there to raise children in a safer and quieter environment. It`s a shame LACO is using their forces to drive harmless people from their homes instead of keeping the people safe from REAL danger...

It could be a real estate developer conspiracy. Whenever they are commissioned to sell property, they call in zone violations to make the neighborhood look more attractive and sellable. It could be as simple as that.

More activist propaganda crap. Guy builds a clearly unstable (3 story? LOL) house out of illegally acquired telephone poles and wonders why he`s being arrested.

I love the part when the guy said and all of the sudden police show up at my door with flak jackets and guns and surrounded the place. haha. All of the sudden huh? Yes, I`m sure he didn`t threaten to kill them if they didn`t get off his property and that he`d do it if they ever came back.

This is what you call a `Survivalists Compound` basically they try to do whatever they want, stockpile weapons(legally usually) fence themselves off from the rest of the world and break the law inside much like a cult. When someone comes and says, Uh Sir you need a building permit to do that, they put guns in their faces and tell em to leave.

I also love the part when the idiot activist goes to the public meeting and blatantly confronts someone expecting to get an answer.

"Sir, can you tell me why you are secret society that has murdered countless babies since the 1950`s and is solely responsible from the devaluation of the dollar?"

and you expect to get a response to that? LOL!!!

Also there are seriously so many one sided cases being given, like that whole connecting to the power grid thing, only in certain situations that code requires it.

Code requires these things because it`s dangerous to NOT have them especially for say, unknowing tenants living in someones unlawful trailer park.

Idiots are idiots and deserve what they get.

If you knew anything about code requirements you`d know that they vary from place to place. With cities, towns and suburbs having strict codes and regulations and remote unincorporated areas having none. Want to build a telephone pole home in the city? You`ll need an architectural certification on your plans, the proper permits and reviews and neighborhood approval. Along with the costs in the many thousands of dollars and high yearly tax payments. Build one out in the middle of nowhere? No problem, knock yourself out. They`ll happily accept the yearly taxes which are a fraction of the cost of incorporated areas.
Don`t make the mistake of justifying republicans nefarious deeds because eventually they will come after you as well.

Please tell me how building and housing codes, designed for inner cities, are appropriate for people living in rural areas ? The answer is, those codes are not appropriate and should not be enforced. LA county is enormous and growing bigger, they annexed these rural areas to get the money from property taxes, yet have given them no city services in return, now they are shaking these people down for even more money. What these bureauweenies are doing is not only immoral, it`s unjust.

True facts, I live in the Antelope Valley and you can see my house in this video!! the local Meter Maids Carry guns and wear bullet proof vests. we also have a squad who also wear bullet proof vests, guns and county vehicles and their only job is to drive around and give out tickets and scare the poo out of people. they gave my elderly mother a warning that if she watered her lawn after 8Am they would give her a ticket for $10,000. They just passed some laws that allow them to impose heavy fines if you plant something not on their list. (no im not referring to reefer)
the water company has been overcharging for a decade and they just got caught. instead of jail time they changed the heads of the company..... did not lower the prices...... btw if you water you lawn after 8am you can get a $10,000 dollar fine, yet you cannot drive across town without seeing broken water mains seeping through the pavement.

Our welfare system is the largest allocation in the county. and LA county is HUGE. yet not one of the 250 was an immigration arrest. im not trying to be racist or anything like that. unless you are an american Indian all our ancestors or ourselves are an immigrant. but i am just trying to show that it is just a money mill. they know who will pay and who will not....

What difference is there between a three storey building in a city centre, and one out in the desert? Because there are more likely to be people around one than the other? That`ll be a great comfort to the one person who is unlucky enough to be visiting the desert structure when it falls on him, isn`t it?

You know, CrakrJak, respecting law and authority is a big part of the conservative mentality. It`s funny to hear you speaking against law and order. Or do you only respect the law when you personally agree with it, hmm? Really now...cherry-picking what rules you want to follow is for religion, not building codes! Silly boy.

Do you also believe that Obama is a muslim, man never landed on the moon, the twin towers were brought down by the CIA, all the world`s most powerful people are actually lizard aliens, the Nazis are flying saucer planes out from a base in Antarctica, Big Pharma knows a cure for cancer but is keeping it secret, and all this is in fact just an elaborate reality television show in which you are the unwitting and unwilling star?

CJ, don`t pretend an unelected bureaucrat can hold a county supervisors meeting and that Michael Antonovich was somehow appointed. You`re being stupid. Just like these people when they pulled a lever for a guy that was gonna protect their guns, stop abortions and gay marriage. Conned into thinking those are the important things in their lives and now they are losing their homes. On the one hand I feel for them on the other meh.. You made your bed now you gotta sleep in the dirt. Republicans are con men looking to steal from the poor. Vote for them at your own risk.

Oh don`t mind him. It`s just his new word of the week. I`ve seen CrakrJak do this about three or four times now; he picks up a new word from somewhere, chirps it out at every opportuny for a week or so, then drop it and never, ever use it again once he`s bored of it.

He`s like a giddy toddler learning a new word.

Musuko: Smaller government and fewer bureaucrats are a main component of conservatism. Michael Antonovich is a bureaucrat, I don`t care what party he says he`s apart of, people like him need to be ousted from office.

For the record, Democrats are trampling on people just the same as that Antonovich jerk.

As I said before it`s about government intrusion and control, They are scared of people that are self-reliant and that can live independently. As a general rule democrats want more and more rules and controls written into law and that`s a fact.

Obamacare`s `Independent Payment Advisory Board`, IPAB for short. The IPAB is where the rationing will take place, 15 members appointed by the president, those are the people that are going to decide who gets coverage and how much coverage, this is the `death panel` that was warned about. these are the people that will decide to `pull the plug` on granny and deny gramps his liver transplant.

So you`re upset about a panel of decision-makers who were appointed by your democratically elected representatives making that choice, rather than the faceless, unaccountable profit-driven executives in a private insurance corporation making the choice?

I`m not saying the politicians are the best people to be making those decisions...far from it. But they`re unlikely to be any worse than the ones already making those EXACT same decisions.

Here is a clue. If at a PUBLIC meeting specifically set up for the PUBLIC to address its elected officials the elected officials refuse to answer a question then something is wrong. That official should be barred from ever serving in a public office ever again. But then that just my two cents.

Its a drive for control, and nothing else-that`s all it needs to be. When people live on their own, supplying their own power and needs, they are out of the control of the government. NO cameras to watch then, no power to tax, no water and sewage service to tax, they are considered anti-American. I live in the desert, with slar and wind power, my own well, and raise animals and plants for my food and milk-the folks in this video would fit perfectly where I live. And I expect the same to happen to us one day. We don`t conform, and its seen as dangerous.

someone is obviously misinforming these people. Inspectors do not require a search warrant to inspect the property.
Remember Jaycee Dugard and how she lived in that massive building code violation in her abductor`s backyard? The County Inspectors were in part found negligent when they did not follow on neighbors complaints about his property. So as a result I`d wager they are being hyper-vigilant now.

It really amuses me when I see topics like this. People seem to think of this being "us and them": where "us" are the normal people, and "them" is some faceless army of inhuman robots forming an alien gestalt "government".

It seems that the further the person withdraws from society, the stronger they hold this view. Isn`t there a term for this, somewhere in psychology? Dehumanising through detachment?

as for the dessert folk didnt the samething happen to the hillbillies in tennessee and indiana where the people that didnt move got flooded by dams

if the government wants it they used to offer to buy it first, then ask you to leave, then annex you, but now it is sad that they just go straight to leave

Bullsh|t, most government workers are liberal minded socialist bureaucrats. You can`t ever get one fired, unless they do something truly horrible, their union SEIU protects them at all costs, and they really don`t give a damn who they hurt. These NAT bureaucrats operate on rumor and innuendo, they have you convicted in their mind before they even go out to inspect your property, they are busy bodies with nothing else better to do than harass people.

The UK has a single payer system (we have a tax called "national insurance" that pays for, among other things, our healthcare system, state pensions and unemployment benefit)...

No, I`m a European living in Europe...you know, that part of the world that has a history of ACTUAL oppressive governments.

Which somewhat puts the "oppression" you`re suffering into perspective.

Incidentally, to COMPLETELY finish Godwining this thread: to everyone who has their flag up, talking about revolution and overthrowing the government, take a look at history and see what tends to happen shortly after such revolutions...at the extremes of government that usually form the replacement.

What`s remarkable about the American revolution, and the arguably enlightened government that followed, is that it was a freak deviation from the norm. Don`t rely on it being the expected outcome. Not when the Soviet Union and the Third Reich, among others, are in our history books.

This government wants everyone under it`s thumb in some way, they want people reliant on the government so they can control them. To these bureaucrats, anyone living independently of `the system` is considered dangerous and needs to be crushed.
