I wouldn`t say he deserves to have it stolen, but I wouldn`t allow my kid to carry around that kind of cash! I wouldn`t carry around that kind of cash unless I had to!

I once found a $100 bill. I did the right thing and didn`t spend it for seven days. I told the manager of the movie theater where I found it that I found it (I worked there at the time). No one claimed it. Now I don`t carry $100 bills. If I am given them by the bank, unless I`m getting several hundred dollars for something, I ask for $20 bills.

sounds like to me the dad forgot his wallet and used his kid to guilt trip the woman to return it. why would a 9 year old need to save money?
every time i got pocket money it was spent on sweets the same day, i never even thought of what saving was until at least 15

When I find money I keep it. That`s all there is to it. That boy needs to learn how the real world works. The real world being that true, once in a while you will run into honest people and they might just give your wallet back that you foolishly did not guard... but more often, you better look out for number one and your drating belongings. It would have been a good lesson for him to learn. Now he will have this misleading trust in humans which can be dangerous.

This should be a life lesson for both the kid and his dumb ass parents. First off kid, don`t leave a wallet loaded with over $300 laying around. It`s stupid and you are a dumbass for doing so. Also daddio, watch your damn kid, be a responsible adult, you shouldn`t let a 11 year old walk around with over $300 in the first place, and if you are, MAKE SURE HE DOESN`T LEAVE HIM ON THE COUNTER OF A GAS STATION DUMBASS! Sorry but the world is full of to many stupid people who need to stop blaming others for their problem and take some RESPONSIBILITY.

I agree. Maybe at that age I might have saved for maybe a few weeks to buy something a little more expensive, but that`s it. I bought a week`s worth of sweets with a week`s pocket money - that`s self-discipline at that age. A couple of years saving? Not likely. Carrying it all around in a wallet? Ridiculous.

@Pillmatic you said it yourself. It is the parents` job to teach the kid how to be responsible. If you took the wallet and the money, you wouldn`t be "teaching the kid a lesson", you`d just be a jerk.

There seem to be an inordinate number of people on I-A-B who have never ever accidentally lost something importatnt I am shocked at the level of perfection you all have obtained, and yet confused as to why you are skulking around in the comments section of, er, this sort of place, instead of saving cheerleaders or curing cancer or whatnot.

Of course the kid has learned a lesson, you f*cktards. Probably a couple of them.

My daughter left her wallet with her cards, money, iD, oyster card etc on a London bus last year. The wallet was home before she was- complete with all its contents. Most people are honest and kind- it is the small minority who are not - it is a shame when we meet one of them.

@madduck - 80% of human beings WILL steal if they truly believe they can get away with it.
    20% will steal regardless.
Personally having worked @ a shopping mall for over a year, its true.
I cant tell you how may people would stuff 1.99 shoelaces into the shoebox they were buying, when we would inspect the box at check out they would claim "oh yeah we we`re taking those as well, we must of left them in there by mistake."

by your math xglorystarx, 100% of people will steal

I don`t know how that math is correct when I don`t; the only time I stole was I ate some candy at a store (I didn`t realize I was stealing at age 5), my mom made me go back inside and pay for the candy and apologize to the store clerk.

That`s awesome that he got it back. And it`s awesome that a 9 year hold had the discipline to save up $300 and not blow it on crap. But really, his parents really should have talked to him about not strolling around with what amounts to his life savings in cash on his person.

I agree. I work in a business with a lot of cash and it`s not all that uncommon to have loose cash handed in by a customer who found it. Customer A drops a £20 note, customer B finds it later and hands it in. Wallets and purses are very likely to be handed in.
