I really could have used a set of these during my Architectural Drafting days. Now, everyone uses CAD, so no point, but...*sighs nostalgically*

What about just rotating the regular pencil in your hand?

Cheap, erasable, fast... the mother of inventions.

Pencils will stick around until they become totally obsolete, which will take years yet.

still using... what? They barely even sell regular pencils anymore except for to kids, artists, and as "whoa check this out" appeal. What are you on? Wtf do you use? Laptops can`t write down formulas easily, pen ink doesnt erase. Wtf kind of question is that? Are you high? An iPad user? No one takes notes on those things in college. Some people bring them, and think they`re going to, but they dont. They use them for games/surfing/dicking around.

I like it but I gotta say it doesn`t look like it would be comfortable to hold. The layered squared off endings at the tip would become annoying me thinks. Mine is plastic and made by Pentel. It doesn`t have that cool lead rotate-y thing but it`s comfortable to hold.

I just found it online for less than $5. I kinda don`t want to spend money on shipping for a pencil though.
Also, to the people who just manually turn their pencils, what do you do if the lead just keeps flipping back to the flat side? Mine always does that and I have to break the lead to fix it :(

If you have to use pencil then mechanical pencils >> normal pencils. This seems like it`d be expensive, but I do like to use pencil sometimes, especially for equations.

I used to rotate my pencils manually to achieve the same effect when it wore down.

The pencil lead won`t actually wear down that fast, so long pencil strokes would be fine. Simpletons.

wow. I want one! But, like whapitoot says, what happens if you need to make a really long pencil stroke? hmm... still interesting though.

As I student of architecture, I can honestly say that this would be a very useful pencil.

Uhh, well what else are people supposed to use... pencils?
I need to get this though, hopefully it gets rid of having to find that perfectly sharp edge on the lead all the time -__-

What the hell, subtitle? A mechanical pencil is a must have. I have 3 that are awesome that I stole from work and have had for over 10 years. They got me through my undergraduate studies, and now I`m using them in grad school.

Why, yes, I still use mechanical pencil. I use it in college all the time. It`s my main writing instrument. And I definitely want this one!

I want!! I always use a mechanical pencil to write appointments in my diary; they change a lot and if I`d use a pen there would be a lot of scratching. And I always rotate the pencil in my hand to find the proper side for writing.

Whenever I need a pencil (typically for any sort of math or physics)I always use mechanicals. This one looks particularly nice so of course I would use it.

"People are seriously still using these?"
Dumb question IMO.

@Ohnofrodo, it doesn`t matter much in English, but in Chinese/Japanese, it`s actually a rather big deal.

Of course people still use mechanical pencils! Way better than wood pencils and more functional than pens (being able to erase is really really nice for a student especially). The only downside is that inherent risk of losing it. Looks like an awesome pencil to me! Something I would definitely use.

I`ve been rotating pencils myself by habit since the third grade, I don`t need a special pencil to do it for me.

I still prefer mechanical pencils especially when you you need to write small and neatly.....but this demonstrates how you can over engineer something. Does anyone SERIOUSLY worry about their line becoming a bit thicker?

I love mechanical pencils and even the good ol` yellow #2 pencils. If only I could get me some yellow lined paper and I`ll be set.

But this pencil, I like.

When I need a pencil, I`d much rather use a mechanical one than a non-mechanical one, so yes, people are still using these.

well altaru this is prolly based on writing kanji and hiragana and etc, where lifting the pen/pencil is pretty much required at least occasionally

Dickens, what do you use? I suppose you fill out scan trons and first hand applications in pen or printer ink?

actually I think that`s pretty cool! but probably way more expensive than would be worth it. I`d sooner rotate it myself.
