hurricane in florida: speculate with neigbors that the rain will be good for us. Act as if it`s a normal day.

I`m from New York. I know no one who`s doing this. Quite the opposite actually

Yeah, New Yorkers are the only ones who party for hurricanes. Oh wait, what was that thing we always do down here in Houston during a hurricane/tropical storm? That`s right- party. Lame, iab.

If this were true I would have thought it was pretty funny. I had to verify this with my friend from NYC. He says everyone in New York is doing the things on the left side of the list. Oh well...

It`s pretty funny though. People are stock-piling water in NYC right now. What`s fresh water going to do for you? The fresh water system is surprisingly stable. It`s never went down for any disasters. If it does go down, it means that people who stayed there will have much worse problems to worry about than fresh water. Probably won`t make it through the night.

Still not as annoying as some homo serial posters ruining IAB with his GAY propaganda

I understand your complaint about people being jerks, SaintsFan... but to not "move on" at all is problematic, and worthy of seeing a therapist about.

This isn`t a "my disaster can beat up your disaster" contest. Nor should we ever forget about Katrina or 9/11. You think people were saying, "God, I wish those Hawaiians would shut up about Pearl Harbor?" No. These are historical events that happened to us a people. To "move on" is shallow, ignorant and a detriment to those involved.

Right now New York is in the state where we realize the storm`s not going to be as bad. We thought it was going to be cat 3, which because our buildings aren`t built to withstand anything more than a cat 1, it`s equivalent in damages to that of a cat 5 hitting the gulf. But now it`s a cat 1 and most likely becomng a tropical storm before hitting NY, we realize we are over preparing. No need to laugh, people in Louisiana would have done the same if a cat 5 was heading towards them and then it weakens to a cat 2. The only thing we have to realize is that the storm is MASSIVE and very slow moving. So therefore the longer the storm lasts, the more damage, no matter how powerful it is. I heard that the storm is supposed to last like 24 hours or something like that.

"I`m sick of people from Louisiana whining about Katrina. Yes, it was a horrible disaster, but for cryin` out loud, it was 6 years ago. You didn`t hear people who went through hurricane Andrew complain that much, and it was very nearly as bad. Not to mention those of us who`ve been through hurricanes since then (Rita and Ike for me). Time to move on."

You could say the same about 9/11. That was a decade ago, and people still won`t shut the **** up about it.

@Oldfrt Yeah actually I was making a joke, saying that Katrina was just a party and no big deal. I live in FL, I`ve been through plenty of them and I don`t complain. I enjoy the change of pace.

@Subushie Sounds like a good time!

@oldfrt, I think he was insulting it. He is from east US as it says.

BTW, we don`t complain about it. At least no one I know says anything about it; cept it was a great time for bonding. It`s the media that does.

Yup, I remember it. I was there; one of the best times of my life. Had 3 months off of school, spent two of those months eating MRE`s (Which are amazing btw, don`t let anyone tell you any different) and spending time with my family. Loved every minute of it.
lol, fu-ckoff idiot.

I agree. I live here in Florida and people were already planning their hurricane parties while Irene was at least five days away. It`s only a cat 2 and that equals nearly harmless and that means a couple days off from work for some R&R.

I`m assuming this was written by a new yorker and doesn`t know how we do it in Louisiana.

Ever heard of a hurricane party?
New York; don`t even play, we know how to rock a good hurricane.

It won`t hit till Saturday, it`s already been downgraded once, and we`ve had 4 days of unending coverage about preparing for the damn thing.

"These homeowners are placing sandbags"
"Here we see moderate waves"
"Now back to Jim in the studio to discuss how the Obama administration is spending too much on sand bags"

My family just buys 3 boxes of Ritz crackers in case power goes out for a while.
We live in Florida so its kind of a normal thing. Most of our supervisors at work are from California and they were freaking about Irene when she was looking at us.
