Link: The Literal Hoodie Of The Day - Science geeks will get a laugh out of this photo. They`ll get an even bigger laugh out of the dummies that don`t get it.

So MeGrendel`s explanation sounded pretty plausible and would actually make it funny, but then people were saying his explanation was incorrect. So then how is the hoodie still funny?

LOL. What do PI, SQRT(2) and women have in common? They`re all irrational! Hahaha I like it :)

So MeGrendel`s explanation sounded pretty plausible and would actually make it funny, but then people were saying his explanation was incorrect. So then how is the hoodie still funny? His explanation is almost correct, except i-squared is -1, not +1. But -1 is still a real number, so the hoodie still makes sense.

The important thing is that the "i" stands for Imaginary unit. The term "imaginary" is used because there is no real number having a square that is negative. Therefore, "i" can only exist as a real number if it is squared thus "Keeping it real"

No one here gets it - this shirt is about freeing yourself from oppresion. The negative one is imprisoned by the cell that is the square root. It cannot break free on it`s own (unlike the square root of 2) and it does not want to change into something new by multiplication or division. The only way it can be free is by inverting it`s opressor... by squaring the square root! "Keeping it Real" isn`t supposed to be a pun.. it`s the persons view on life, how even the negative ones of the world should be allowed to express themselves freely.

yup reminds me of the ol` "RDRR" joke from the simpsons. hella funny Once again the geeks make the thread more entertaining than the actual photo.... any religious posts today?

Squaring a negative gives you a positive, so isquared is the square root of 1, or one.

1 is a Real Number.

Thus, i is not real, it`s imaginary. i squared equals a Real Number. "Keeping it Real"

>____>

If you square "root of -1", you get -1 not +1. The power goes on the outside of the square root.

thats right...i DID get a bigger laugh out of laughing at you...

For those of you who don`t get it.

i squared = -1

-1 = "negative one"

Someone who is negative like to say they are "keeping it real".

i is irrational

etc.

oh you university hoodies

i^2 = -1, a real number.

Or, my favorite:

Resistance is futile (if <1 ohm).
