Firstly, the dots are clearly galaxies so this would be the expansion of our universe not our galaxy.

Secondly this was absolutely a horrible representation of it.

I`d be impressed if I knew they were all in the correct place, but this just looks like a fancy starfield screensaver.

Could be bacteria under a microscope for all you know.

@Lazyme484 Read the entire description, not just the last few words..

@Errand_boy this is interesting to people who take more interest in things far grander than pathetic human existence.

@PfulHouse no that couldn`t be bacteria "for all i know" bacteria dont resemble galaxies.

This is made by compiling/stitching images of space from the southern hemisphere of Earth together and playing them in sequence (think: flip book.)

Therefore this is a representation of, to be more specific than the brief description, our "local universe." Based on the images being played in sequence (keep in mind that these images are taken over years) we can clearly see an expansion of OUR GALAXY- even though what we are viewing is "The Universe." This is why it is a model/simulation of the expansion of our Galaxy, rather than a model of teh expansion of the universe. All that can be effectively ascertained from what we`re seeing is an expansion of our Galaxy- we don`t have powerful enough camera`s, nore the proper angles to actually reproduce this on a Universal scale... yet.

So yes: Expansion of our Galaxy.
