Note when he attaches himself to the top, he`s not holding on with his hands. Imagine that 1700ft above ground on something the siza of a bath scale... I mean what if theres a gust or something O.o

This is just terrifying. I wouldn`t dare even taking the elevator up, not even with a parachute.

There`s no such things as fear of heights, it`s only the fear of falling down!

Really old video, but it gives me shivers every time I watch it. The transition to the top is probably the worst part (other than climbing down again)

Apparently about 10 workers die each year in the US from falling from transmission towers.

As soon as the video was done I went to lean back in my chair, forgetting it had no back cause it broke recently, and I thought I was going to fall to my death. lmao!

Well... thats how the money is earned. Agree with skaterboy17 tho

Its not that money would convince me to do this- I would be physically incapable of moving my body because of fear paralysis. I have been on second level floors in malls(you can feel movement) that made me have to lay down. I couldn`t imagine being so high up and feeling the tower sway in the wind- or how you can visually see the polls lean when his partner grabbed on below him.

There are no circumstances I can think of that would see me make my way up that tower.

And they are free climbing it. It made my stomach turn a little when they said that. I wonder what kind of safety record that occupation has. One thing is for sure... not one of those guys ever got testicular cancer, cause cancer can`t do anything to the solid brass nuts these guys have

"Man climbs 1700 feet straight up" vs. "Man takes elevator 1600 feet straight up, then starts climbing another 150 feet." Scary as hell, and I wouldn`t want to be in his shoes, but a bit misleading of a title, no?

Damn, that`s so high I bet he could take a parachute out, do any preparations necessary, put it on his back, and still have time before he has to open the chute while falling. >_> Lol.

For the folks that don`t know how to scroll down, they get paid between $40,000 and $60,000 annually. Nowhere near enough for that job.

i know it didn`t pay much when my father used to do it back in the late 50s. he got minimum, somewhere around 75 cents an hour.
personally i`d be curled up in a ball crying as soon as the elevator door opened.

I mean the salary has to start somewhere north of six figures to even consider doing this for a living. At the end of the video I saw something about this guy being an engineer, so I`m guessing 180+.

Even if you`re not afraid of heights....that bit where you climb without being attached to safety equipment has to be unsettling. I`d be too paralyzed with fear to move. One wrong step, one gust of wind, one mistake...that`s your ass. Much respect.

Male 119
I think it would be easier, faster, and just all around more practical to jump off with a parachute. You`d be able to pack your chute in less than half the time it would take to climb back down. Not to mention you`d relieve yourself of the physical labor of climbing back down.

Oh, and btw, this is a dratING REPOST!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Sweet jesus, I`d at least want a freaking parachute or something.... You have too much time to freak out about dying if you ever accidentally fall.. and then there`s the fact that you *will* die if you ever do fall...

But other than that... I`d love it do it once.

I climbed smaller towers before and halfway up(no matter how physically fit you are) your arms and legs start feeling like noodles. I fixed chimneys on apartment complexes and got over my fear of heights, but 2 weeks after I quit I was right back where I started. Now, I wouldn`t climb a tree unless the pay is right.

I searched the average salary, found something here. Average is 40,000, one guy who worked 60 hours a week made 60,000 in a year. That`s insanely under payed for what they are doing.
