Well, the judge ruling her court case made a decision and this is what happened... A must read for prospective parents.

I grew up perfectly fine with my only punishments being extra chores and losing toys. My parents never hit me, never forced me to consume something I didn`t want to, never yelled at me, never made me take a cold shower, and yet I am well-adjusted, respectful, and have a fantastic relationship with my family. It is possible to raise children, even unruly ones, without causing physical or emotional pain. Children are to love and cherish, but that`s just how I feel, and my family feels.

Hot sauce in the mouth not bad did she over do it...yes. Cold shower...yes she was just a B*tch you could tell. What ever happened to the old days of getting soap or hot source for talking back to your parents? I remember that lots of time growing up. The crime here is that she exploited her child and overly did things to make it better for tv.

Abuse is hurting someone for no reason other than your own pleasure, or causing permanent mental or physical problems. As far as I can tell this woman was trying to find a way to teach her son to behave better. While her methods were extreme and in fact I would argue corporal punishment in general DOES NOT WORK, she was not "abusing" the child. Did she need some help? Without question. I believe that is why she went on Dr. Phil, for what ever that is worth. Did her method of punishment go past what is the norm for the area, probably. But it, at least in my opinion, was not abuse.

I just beat my kid with a wooden spoon until she`s bloody and bruised. That seems to work.

Hot sauce = meh
Cold shower = meh
Verbal berating = meh
Video the punishment = meh

Hot sauce + Cold shower + Verbal berating + Video x All to get on Dr. Phil? / Husband is a cop! = Good call Judge.

I think where the hot sauce is abuse is because he had to hold it in his mouth.. as he was crying and trying not to swallow it and still trying to breathe.. He could have inhaled some causing worse problems. A few drops on the tongue is not the same thing as what she did..

What seems to be overlooked,is that the husband is a cop;Someone entrusted to uphold the law and protect the citizenry.Where was he when this child was being abused/tortured?If he`s capable of allowing this in his home, think about what he`s capable of on the job.

Does it make me weird that I actively seek out this type of punishment daily?

She couldn`t have been THAT desperate for help if she was able to wait a year and-a-half for the Dr. Phil show to get back to her. Plus I think it`s gross that she had her other kid film it. She`s a moron.
are dr. Phil, House, Doogie Howser M.D. and Becker the only doctors around in the states?
Well, we had Dr. Quinn, medacine woman, but she got cancelled.

The fact that the defense is seriously claiming that the woman`s actions where caused by the fact she desperately wanted help and hoped dr. Phil could help her when she showed how bad it was, is the world upside down.

Furthermore, claiming that the woman was doing the best she could is ludicrous.

Why didn`t she go to her doctor and ask him for advise on where to go?
Or just go to http://www.childwelfare.gov/

Or are dr. Phil, House, Doogie Howser M.D. and Becker the only doctors around in the states?

If you think forcing an adopted child (who might of already been through alot) to take cold showers, then hold hot sauce in his mouth is fine... it`s not.

Depending on the sauce, some would cause an extream and unbearable amout of pain even for a adult. Being able to make him hold something in his mouth that feels like it`s stabbing needles in him means he fears pain less then he fears her.

And the cold shower, there was recently care homes shut down for abusing clients with stuff like poring cold water over them. If that`s abuse for a mentaly challanged adult, it`s abuse for a child.

Lastly since it pissed off Russia, it`s political. Russia had already tryed to ban adoption into the US recently over the Ivan Skorobogatov case and this is fuel on the fire.

the sad thing is that she adopted this poor child and he had bad behavior from being an unwanted child, and she punished him for it

I watched the Dr. Phil episode last year. It brought tears to my eyes. I believe she should get more than just a fine and a year in jail. They should pour hot sauce in her butt and womanly parts and let her sit & rot.

I think it`s interesting that this is the second post today to use perspective instead of prospective... that is all.

First....she`s a pig. What she did was way more than `a little hot sauce`.

Second, don`t adopt Russian or eastern block children. They are way damaged and can`t be fixed.

just sayin`

I wouldn`t call a little hot sauce `Abuse`, The kid had no bruises, wasn`t `traumatized`, and although the hot sauce did inflict some temporary pain it wasn`t bad enough to rise to the level of child abuse.

However, she did use her kid`s reaction to the punishment in an attempt to get on a TV show, and that I find to be incredibly stupid, I believe the judge in this case did as well. I don`t believe she deserves jail time for it though.

@rawrg "Moscow acted after an American woman, Torry Hansen, put her seven-year-old adopted son on a one-way flight to Russia alone, with a note saying she could no longer care for him."

What I`m saying is that it was clear she thought she was doing the only right thing she could do. She wasn`t doing it simply out of anger or sadism. She thought this would teach the kid to change for the better. I believe in this case it`s an over-reaction because all she needs is guidance, not punishment.

I saw that video and that episode. Sure, it was bad for the kid and most parents should know better, but it was hardly something that would traumatize a normal kid. She was obviously desperate to get on TV in order to get help for her kid, so in an insane way everything she did was for his benefit. I`m sure she thought she was doing everything she could to help the kid, she was obviously desperate. This wasn`t about getting fame on TV, unless she thrives on being humiliated and hated by everyone ever.

How is the fact that she did it to get on a tv show make it any more tolerable? In fact, it makes it worse. F*** her. Throw her ass in jail.
