Parody. However it does just goes to show how the young are so naive on the Social Security program.

Social Security is a self funding entity. Politicians spent it and now want to convince the mindless masses we can`t afford it.

Wow, Madest, that was the worst non-true explanation I`ve heard...The people paying into social security are always paying for the generation before them. We earn benefits based off of life expectancy. The problem is, there were too many baby boomers who were living too long and no one saw it coming back when the new deal was created.

Yeah that`s how they con you by using the "life expectancy" line as if "expectancy" is the average age of death. It`s not. There`s millions of people who pay into the system and die before ever seeing a dime. There`s employer FICA contributions as well. You need to look into social security before attempting to use right wing tag lines questioning it`s solvency.

no tech geek Congress was using social security to fund other things because there was a lot of money there and they figured they would be able to do that and still have enough for people needing social security but they were wrong.

There`s also a lot of people who`ve never paid into social security that get. Special needs, disabled, children of disabled. The whole thing is a mess. But, to put it so simplistically is just off the mark. I`m by no means a right winger, in fact, I`m a lot closer to hippy. The government has borrowed money from it. But, it wasn`t a sustainable model to begin with.

Tsk tsk, the "Grab Life By The Balls" bill outlaws helmets and the "Pussy Tax" taxes them? Which is it? You can`t tax something that`s illegal.

It is a sustainable model. The Social security act was signed in 1935. Even with politicians spending it, it`s solvent until 2029. You know how the government works, they`ll get busy fixing it in 2028.

But that IS what life expectancy is - the mean lifetime in the population. Obviously yes some people will fall short, but equally some people will live long past it too.

Madest is correct it is sustainable. The fact that the US government was loaned by the Social Security Managing Board of Trustees 3.5 trillion since the Regan administration is proof. In fact if it were not for Social Security Trust Fund this country would not be able to cover it`s interest payments and default would have occurred long ago.

This country is actually close to 18 trillion in debt because Uncle Sam owes that 3.5 trillion back. As long as the managing trustees, who are appointed every 4 years by the president, continue to loan our trust fund to the likes of government bank, corporate, housing bailouts, military industries, subsidies, etc... you will always hear the call of the ignorant politician who will whine SS is making us broke. When in fact it does not. It`s those idiots who keep borrowing from the piggy bank, and not paying it back.

because Uncle Sam owes that 3.5 trillion back

That`s the problem it`s made it easier to tax people, and easy to swindle an entire generation of people. If they keep up this trend social security will be unsustainable.

Of course you could pass a law that prohibits such borrowing.

The other big problem with social security is that it`s not a solid promise like a treasury note. They can pay less back than what you put in nominal-wise. People also have different needs than others and it`s best that they choose how much out of their paycheck they wish to put in a retirement account (401(k) anyone?).

My point was socio-enviromental factors ARE considered when calculating life expectancy. So a high murder rate can mean a lower life expectancy.

I don`t know if I should laugh or cry. Why are people having a serious discussion in an Onion News video post? Maybe this site should be renamed to I-am-so-brainwashed-
