Michael Jordan Missed Free Throw Putback Dunks

And this is another reason why Lebron James will never be the "Best." Can you see him making this kind of extra effort?

I hate Basketball.

But I respect Michael Jordan as an Athlete, he is arguably the best player to have ever lived.

@fancylad (& others): If you follow hockey, the Red Wings of the 50`s had a play where one forward would shoot the puck around the back of the net, have a winger waiting for it on the other side, to pass it out to the third guy who would (more often then not) score. This led to the goalie coming out to stop the puck behind the net (that being Jacques Plante). THIS play (Jordan`s charge at the net) was practiced and done - usually with Pippin taking the foul shot - and it could only be done on a one-shot foul or the second shot of a double - and was almost impossible to stop, because if you fouled Jordan, he then got more points. And you can`t make this a 3-point play. Once that ball hits the rim or backboard, the single is off the table, but now you have a chance to go for the two. This usually came late in the game when the Bulls were down and needed the points. Jordan would have to have complete confidence that the shooter would actually miss, and yet keep the ball above the rim.

Thanks everyone. I thought it would be 2, but then I thought surely people would try to do it more often then, whereas the video suggests Jordan was going above and beyond by doing this.
was that a serious question almightybob?
Yes, it was. My instinct was that it would be 2, but I wasn`t sure. Hardly anyone plays basketball over here so although I`m familiar with the majority of the rules, I wasn`t sure about things like this.

LeBron is more naturally gifted than Jordan, but Jordan completely maximized his talents. Night in, night out, Jordan HAD to be the best. LeBron cares about winning, sure, but not like Jordan. And that is why he will NEVER be Jordan.

okay LeBron can do all this, this isn`t why LeBron will never be better than MJ. he will never be better than MJ because MJ was literally, and I do mean quite literally, OBSESSED with being the best at EVERYTHING. I`m pretty sure he had a competitive disorder or something. He would punch team mates in practice if he thought they weren`t trying enough. He one time got beat in ping pong by a team mate, so he went out and bought a ping pong table and became the best player on the Bulls. One time, in a half-a**ed scrimmage vs college kids, the college kids won and apparently one of them celebrated a little too much, so the next game, MJ said "I got him." The kid didn`t TOUCH the ball the entire scrimmage. LeBron has the physical talent and potential to be better than Jordan, but he never will be because he doesn`t have the same mentality. He was also usually referenced to as a homicidal maniac with announcers saying "Jordan is a killer" "MJ will rip your heart out.

"but it also looks like sometimes the defense isn`t even TRYING, i mean half the times they just stood there and watched Mike just come right on up and make the play, not even an attempt to stop him. Makes you wonder..."

That is because by the time they are ready to jump, MJ is already in the air and soaring past them.

Being proven the next season when they set the record for best record in a season, 72-10.

Moreover, in 94-95 upon his return the Bulls were 34-31 when he returned a month before the playoffs, they finished 47-35, 13-4. MJ averaged 31 points 6.5 rebounds 4.5 assists in the only playoff series he lost in the eight year run after his return a month before the playoffs. they were rusty because of the return late in the season.

Micheal could have had an eight-peat, as predicted by bill swarsky`s superfans,SNL reference, had he not retired for baseball. Instead he wins a three peat, leaves the game only to come back and have another three peat. the bulls weren`t great without him in his absense. Micheal is the best ever. Period.

"IT`S THE ONLY ARGUMENT I NEED SHAUN!"

but it also looks like sometimes the defense isn`t even TRYING, i mean half the times they just stood there and watched Mike just come right on up and make the play, not even an attempt to stop him. Makes you wonder...

treblemaker, i was just wondering that until i read your comment. these had to be practiced as drills over and over--essentially a three-point play if you could pull it off.

I had grandmothers who are/were MJ fans without ever having watched a game of basketball till they watched Jordan. I`d be surprised if ANY athlete anywhere is ever held in as high regard as Jordan is/was.

This was a set play. Done many times, it turns 1 point into 2. Jordan`s acceleration and jump made this easy. And there were times he was blocked out, but the plan was to toss up a gentle balloon, and the trick was to just barely get it to the rim. Jordan would do the rest.

It`s 2, Bob. The shot ball is live for either team to rebound and shoot for a score. The team "defending" the free throw has the advantage, due to positioning under the basket (they`re closest), but, Jordan negated that a bit with his awesomeness.

Watching that brings back memories... I was never a big basketball fan, but Jordan is, in my mind, the best player ever. Maybe that`s all PR, but I believe he was a good player, had a good attitude, good PR, and mostly he had skill. Thanks for the stroll down memory lane lol.

a slam dunk is considered a normal field goal attempt in basketball, hence worth 2 points.
