Manhattan Shoebox Apartment: This Is Living?

Submitted by: Fancys_Asst 6 years ago in

I"m not going to say a 78-square-foot mini studio is typical for New York City, but don"t expect much more than this.

Does he know that prisoners get much larger cells in jail? If he`s an architect he must not be very good, the ones I know are making a killing.

Why is he a pretentious douche just because he is willing to accept the trade offs of living there?
Oh ya, he said he was vegetarian. Thats why

Reminds me of Flight of the Conchords... when Jermaine moves out the flat into a cleaning cupboard.

What an idiot, seriously he is prepared to pay for something the size of our hallway just so he can live in Manhatten. Parts of London are like this and its pretty stupid pretentious people that would choose to live in a cupboard rather than admit their money won`t stretch to a particular part of a city they`d rather live in. I admit I`d rather live in a marginally smaller place in a safer part of town, compromises like this make sense to me, but not just so I can boast about where I live at the expense of a decent home. What a tit he is.

$800 a month?! O___O
Wow. That`s how much I pay, and I have a house 5 minutes from downtown Toronto that I share with 2 other people.
And I thought rent here was high.

@CoffeeDiiva

Pretty sure that was a different apartment, i too remember the video. She had a bed above the entrance and a hipster behind the door. She also claimed to be some sort of professional organizer, but all her crap was in cheap bins on cheaper shelves that she had to stand on a rolling chair to reach.

$800 a month? I pay that for the mortgage on my 3 bedroom house. Either way though, I lived in a room that size in a fraternity house in college. It`s actually pretty cozy.

Where I live isn`t anywhere near as exciting as New York, but I pay 500 a month for a 3 bedroom, 2 story house, with a pretty large yard (rent, I also pay another 20 a month to have pets). My friend who is buying her house pays 416 a month for a 4 bedroom with 4 acres. That includes her taxes and insurance....

Silly hipster, if he would go out west he could get a much larger house with a decent view for about the same price.

It might be small, but if you live in downtown New York City how often would you even be in your apartment?

I like cramped places, since I`m insane like that, so this actually looks really comfy to me. The $800 a month is ridiculous though.

@ auburnjunky - it`s New York City. Rents really are thousands of dollars there.

I love NYC but the price kept me from moving there. still, if you earn $500,000 a year it`s a great place

Something is not quite right about this guy... he spends all day at his computer looking at what are probably massive technical drawings, yet he only has this measly laptop. At least it`s not a mac.

He works from home, yet he chooses to live in a tiny, cramped, overpriced room. Why? If you have the luxury of working from home then why not live anywhere... like in the country? For the price of that room you could probably rent a small house. There is no commute advantage if you don`t need to commute.

Odd... he`s an odd one. Architects... I want to be an architect... but not like this. Freaking hipsters.

SpaceRanger- They are across the hall. When he went to get water to make tea he went to the bathroom which he said he shares with like 3-4 other people.

On another note, I`d really like to have a set of plans for that couch/bed...
