My point is I`m from England and people don`t like being proved wrong, ESPECIALLY when it comes to driving, and even more so when there`s a camera rammed in your face to capture your mistake. I can guarantee a lot of those drivers were annoyed more at him than their own mistake. I`m not defending those drivers` actions but this isn`t quite the right way to go about it. And to have some idiot calling me a self entitled a-hole when he knows nothing about me is plain childish.

He`s nervous, but kudos to him to have the balls to do what he did. And he was f*cking right.

When we did the Mod Bio`s a while back because fancy asked us to (search it if you`re interested), my pet hate was something like "arseholes who think the world owes them a living".

Having watched this, I hold to that statement.

FATNINJA: ``OK... i see what you did there``

-- A few others links, completely unrelated to
this one --

``I see what you did there``

``I see what you did there`` can basically be applied to anything, can it? The sentence is great to get an higher post-count, isn`t it? Without actually knowing what the fck you`re talking about.

Dumb fcking sht. They should restrict you
from commenting on this website. 17k+ posts.
Most of them are 1 WORD or just a copy-pasted sentence.

ON TOPIC;
This guy has balls. He knows this is wrong
and although a lot of people think it, no one would ever go and correct people on their own
behaviour. Absolutely well done! I admire this
behaviour.

@WorldOfJames so what you`re saying is he should have been nicer about their driving mistake and the potential loss of Human life because they wanted to get some where faster? Stuff them, the self centered drivers. Can`t stick with the rules then don`t drive. I wonder if of them see this video, lol. POW, right in the kisser!

In defense of @WorldofJames, he used the word "you`re" correctly. I guess, when you`re fresh out of elementary school, these things are easier to remember.

Put a powerful engine in the emergency vehicles and a car-plow on the front, problem solved. Anyone on the hard shoulder would get tumbled off the road into the brush where they are on their own to deal with their own injuries.

Good for him- I really hope that the number plates he caught on camera got done- doubt it, I expect all they got was a sense of righteous indignation for being inconvenienced. Morons.

If I had been caught in this traffic jam and saw this guy with the camera I would have gotten out and helped him get plate numbers. Then I would have invited him out for a pint or two.

i don`t know about the Uk but over here i have seen people get arrested and there vehicle towed when they try to bypass traffic due to a accident on the shoulder. it takes a complete self centered idiot to think its ok to do this...

In Germany,for some reason I forgot, the emergency is driving in the lane next the the lane at the middle (right to the mst left lane), which would be left to the most right lane in the UK.

"their problem is the design of the shoulder isn’t differentiated enough, aside from that solid white line."
You are not allowed on the Moterway until you have a full UK license. You know what the hard shoulder is and it`s simply not possible to make that mistake after passing your driving tests (theory & main)
To the people who said they can go down the other way, yes true but you can`t just start going 70mph down the wrong way of a moterway you`ll hit a oncoming car. You need to wait for the road to be empty which takes time. Also what if cars could still creep by one at a time, it still won`t be empty. And as someone else pointed out what if they start up the hard shoulder find it blocked and gridlocked traffic they can`t turn around and will have to reverse all the way back costing more time which could be someone dieing.

Emergency services can very well come from the next junction and for instance driving against traffic - but that is not the point, those people shouldn`t be in the lane as it can be potentially life threatening, I can`t stand people that will drive like arrogant pricks just so that they save 1-2 minutes on their commute.

@Kaagan

When it comes to such a crucial activity as getting a gravely injured person to hospital without delay, it`s foolish to shut off one possible route of travel and rely only on a reduced number of others.

Helicopters are not always available. Using the other side of the motorway, or coming at the accident from the opposite direction, may involve detour: even if it`s only a detour of seconds, it may still cost lives.

Above all, the ambulance may start down the hard shoulder, unaware that it is blocked by selfish people up ahead, and wind up trapped, or stuck waiting for those causing the obstruction to maneuver out of the way.

It is ugly, dangerous, destructive selfishness, and this man is right to compare it to the riots: the same mentality causes both.

"their problem is the design of the shoulder isn’t differentiated enough, aside from that solid white line."

It`s differentiated plenty. Anyone who doesn`t know what that solid white line on the motorway means needs to have their licence revoked.

On snarl up motorways we could probably do with paramedics on bikes as outriders for ambulance crews, maybe with ear ring bloke as a pillion so he can harass the sheep and gawpers.

You do seee this in traffic jams near Airports, as people panic and think they`ll miss their flight. I saw it at Heathrow about 2 months ago, as I too was panicking and thinking I was gonna miss my flight. I didn`t, but it was farking close and involved much running.

It doesn`t matter too much from a practicality point of view that they`re blocking the lane. Cops will just double back from the next junction up to get at the accident and despatch a couple of bike cops to book everyone that`s on the hard shoulder.

People here poo bricks when you hear sirens, the cops would rather stop and give you a ticket than rush to the emergency.

And no one drives in the emergency lane here

While it is wrong what they have done, one of the traffic calming scheme that is being brought into place in Britain is the use of the hard shoulder during peak traffic flow to add an extra lane. However this wasn`t one of those times so good on him for doing this.

Yeah I haven`t seen anybody try that here unless they were using it to pass (which is still illegal, but momentary).

Good for him. I`ve heard the M-highways in Britain can be a nightmare. Here in Chicago, we had problems with people either not moving for an ambulance or outright cutting them off - until they posted a $500 fine, which they enforced. Problem solved. I hope they ticked the hell out of those people.

Blah w/a snitch? If it was your loved one that didn`t get an ambulance would you feel different?

What`s with the `snitch` mentality? If you do something wrong no one should catch you? It`s ok as long as you don`t get caught?
I`ve yet to see people here in the USA clog the hard shoulder while being stuck behind an accident.
I see people do it all the time. My favorite is when they exit the interstate where there are no exits. Ahhh Texas.

@CrakrJak

I have seen people try it before on I-95 between Fredricksburg and D.C. But others block them from using it like that by pulling a quarter way into the emergency lane.

What a laugh at you PC folks who are upset he was rude and/or arrogant. Those people on the side are much worse than just rude and arrogant and you`re crying about the one guy doing something about it no matter how small or silly. Rude, arrogant, gay, who gives a poo? He wasn`t breaking laws or endangering others.

Public shaming is a great way to make people accountable and perhaps think about their actions. Also, the embarrassment of being called out when you clearly know what you`re doing is wrong may make you think twice about doing it again. I liked the way he confronted them in a non-aggressive way and I found him fun and funny to watch.

These people are in the wrong to such an extent that they could be a major contributing factor in someone`s DEATH.

And for what? A few minutes off their drive to work or home?

If anything, there need to be MORE people like this guy to call these people out for being f*cking morons.

And if anyone died in the accident because the EMT`s couldn`t get there in time, they should all be charged with negligent manslaughter.

Don`t get me wrong I understand his reasoning behind doing it, but going up to someone and ramming a camera in their face being a self righteous bell doesn`t do anything. People in the car will be thinking "god what a knob" instead of "hmm yeah that guy`s right i`ll remember that in future". He should just go and inform them of their mistake instead of being a dick about it.

their problem is the design of the shoulder isn’t differentiated enough, aside from that solid white line. you need to add strips or have it slightly sunken and smooth so people can see they’ll poo bricks if they go on it.

Couldn’t the emergency vehicles just go on the opposite side of the M1, against traffic or not like they do everywhere else in the world when they cannot reach the crash scene. Helicopters work too.

@WorldOfJames

He`s not a knob. Everyone stopped in the emergency lane is a knob. Imagine if someone you cared about was in a horrible accident and died because the ambulance couldn`t reach them in time.

Pointing out people`s idiocy is a great way to break them of it.

Why not?

"I think he will find this as an international thing."

Never driven on a highway/freeway with one of these lanes myself. I assume this is because our freeway`s have more exits/entrances than their M1 does enabling the ambulance to simply drive the wrong way from the entrance ahead of the accident.
