If he wants to live in a society where someone making a comment like that gets you paid, he should move over here, to the US!

Is it fair to call him "astoundingly thick"? No. If you win the first round of Mastermind, you are not astoundingly thick at all.

Mastermind is the toughest quiz show I`ve ever encountered.

Having said that: What they`re judging here is not if the comment was fair representation of the facts. It`s if it was a fair (as in acceptable) jibe at the situation.

    Which it was.

Also, chance to pimp out my favourite sketch of all time: the Two Ronnies Mastermind Sketch.

Apparently the Europeans have trouble getting Jon Stewart`s the Daily Show, and America can`t get the show Mastermind.

    Conspiracy?

I saw that very programme and it was awful. I don`t really like any of Jim Carrey`s films at all and I got way more points than he did. However, it is unfair to call him `thick` if he did just `pluck that from the air` as a specialist subject as thats totally not the point of Mastermind.

England has "media regulators" ? What the hell are those ? Are you telling me this guy doesn`t even get a day in court over this, because of some `media regulator` unaccountable bureaucrat`s unilateral decision ?

I don`t care how smart or dumb someone is, people should have the right to seek compensation for damages without some government bureauweenie saying they can`t even have a day in court.

Unlike the US, most European countries (indeed, most countries, period) believe that sueing over small petitesses, such as this, is retarded, lame and all-round a waste of time.

CrakrJak, you might as well call judges an unaccountable bureaucrat. They are the body that you make a case to and they give a view / verdict.

    CJ:
The government appointed Ofcom as media regulators in the same way it appointed the judges. I don`t see how one is an unaccountable bureaucrat making a unilateral decision, but the other is not.

Yeah CJ, Is off his rocker. He must have forgot one of his party`s platforms is tort reform which would deny nincompoops the ability to sue over something as stupid as this.

    Im right, your wrong.
    ---------------------
On a relevant note; it is a bit rude to call, a game show contester, names. But so far the comments we`rent hateful (racism and all that crap) then how can he really complain when he, lets assume willingly, exposed himself to broadcastet tv?

madest: Yes, I believe in tort reform, but not some socialist bureaucrat making unilateral decisions without oversight. Judges here are elected, with a few exceptions, they are accountable to the people.

If this `media regulator` was judge then why don`t they call him a judge ? appointed bureaucrats making unilateral decisions without oversight are the worst kind of all.

In cases like this guys there should be a panel of judges, not just one, they should be elected not appointed and their decisions should not set new legal precedent.

Finker: Here at least, Cases are heard by elected judges and having a jury trial is an option. Before a case proceeds it goes through a preliminary hearing or a grand jury to determine if there is enough evidence, but these are only used for criminal trials not civil trials unfortunately.

So Crakr essentially restates his opinion vv adding "Why don`t they just call him a judge?".

I don`t always lose arguments, but when I do, I resort to bitching about semantics.

    @Crakrjak
You realize ofcause that its not just one person, that there are many with preset guidelines. And if enough questions/arguments are raised, they either have to change their verdict or similar.
    Oh right, you didnt.

You are right, everyone else are wrong. As usual ^^

There`s a caveat in all of CJ`s beliefs. He`s against national healthcare yet he`s on medicaid. He wants tort reform but he thinks this guy should have his day in court. He`s Christian yet often talks like an elementary school science teacher. The man is a walking talking conflict of interest.

Took Bush 7.5 years to destroy the surplus and bring the worlds economy to it`s knees. So nice of you to be angry at Obama for not fixing it in 2-1/2. My science knowledge is the same as any average human with only 40 years of computer assistance. I don`t throw science under the bus as you say. I merely throw our knowledge of it under the bus. Science has proven that life thrives everywhere it can. Why would you think you`re more advanced than other life forms? Oh yeah God made you special. I forgot.
So odd that you cling to that 2000year old fairy tale as if it were fact when there is no scientific evidence of it.

madest: Why would you think you`re more advanced than other life forms?

Mankind is much more advanced than any `life form` on earth, if you are too `Astoundingly Thick` to know that difference then you are even worse than I first thought.

Sounds like you have been fully indoctrinated into believing human life is worth less than animal life, that human beings are a scourge to planet earth and that the only way to save planet earth is for human beings to leave it or all die off.

It`s no wonder you want to believe there are aliens, without that belief you wouldn`t have any hope.

CJ - the regulators are accountable, there is a right of appeal, it is not one person making a decision. Overall it reduces the massive cost of court cases and legal fees and produces a very similar result. Won`t go further as you clearly won`t be swayed by reason.

Finker: Sorry, but the whole article smacked of bureaucracy and i know England is full of unelected and unaccountable bureaucrats telling people what they can and can`t do with their lives.

I mean honestly a television tax ? with roaming vans stuffed with detectors issuing hefty tickets if you don`t pay ? That`s just too drated up, imho.

CJ, don`t believe all you hear about the UK - well some is true I guess but not that different overall, the style of it does have throwbacks, certainly the fact it is `her majesty`s government` - but only really in name. The detector vans are made up to scare people into paying, not sure many still believe it, mainly they just periodically send letters threatening action to addresses without a licence. The tax splits people here but it isn`t much and loads of the BBC material is great and wouldn`t happen otherwise. Ofcom generally seem to make good calls on things IMO.

Secondly, No one has to be `well traveled` to learn and know things, I have friends, relatives, and acquaintances that have traveled and related their experiences to me, plus the whole damn internet at my fingers to search for experiences others have had, to read through.

    "What Finker said"

The itnernet yields much information, but at least as much misinformation. Regarding the actual discussion at hand, you may wish to read official sources rather than hearsay and think you might be able to partially recall what your mother`s aunt was told by her best friend about England what her niece had experienced. Facts > your so-called "information"
