I-A-B Reader Letter of the Day #3: Obama? NObama?

+

Hey Fancy,

I didn"t realize that I-A-B was so Anti-Obama/Pro-Republican! It looks to me like anything against Obama is at least worded in such a way that it seems less aggravating, and anything that is pro Obama is labeled as improper. This is quite distressing, since I had always turned to I-A-B as a source of random entertainment, but this site has become to politically polarized so fast! Please stop with the politics!

Thanks, Andy (email withheld by request)

+

Full disclosure, this email was sent to me a while ago, but I liked it and kept it because I knew eventually I"d get to it somehow. So now that you know that, onward...

So, is I-A-B anti-Obama? I can"t speak for any of the other mods, but I personally am not anti-Obama. I"m neutral and side with the team that I think is best. In the last 4 or so years, I"ve voted Dem and Rep and even Indie twice. In short, I"m just all for whatever makes the world a better place. I think that"s what the rest of the I-A-B Mods are for too--I could be wrong, but they"ll probably explain themselves in this link"s forum.

Why does everything on the site related to Obama seem slanted against him? Probably because that"s what that particular situation calls for--example: the Debt Ceiling and his poor handling of it. But there are some Obama posts that champion him for the cool guy he is. Barry is just out of his depth this term. In 10 years, I bet he would have been the next Clinton (sans the cigar in the vagina thing), but in 2011 he"s struggling.

Ciao until tomorrow, Fancylad

Have a beef with Fancy? One of the Mods? Life in general? Hunt-and-peck out a little email and send it here...

The most Patriotic thing an American can do is to stand up for what is right and moral, booting people from office if it calls for it; NOT going along with everything and believing everything the Media puts in your head...

i`m fairly conservative, but even though i`m a conservative i still root for the President.
He`s our President, so what ever letter comes before his name (R, or D) it`s my duty to support the office. That all said, no matter who`s in office, if this was a Republican, whatever; i would still blame him, or her, for the state of this country`s economy. Being black and a Democrat
does not give him a pass, it shouldn`t, and those who`s first inclinations to do so are doing everyone a disservice.
Any other President who was leading this country, during this mess would be held accountable, this one is treated like a disabled child who has risen above his limitations.
Bull-crap, politics aside, we need to be vocal about our displeasure; demand solutions regardless of parties..

This site leans left for sure. President Obama jut happens to be the President of the left half of the nation. So, I don`t think the site is so much pro-Obama as pro-left. If Biden, Gore, or Kerry were Pres, the lean would be to them as well.

Thanks to the minority from the center and the right that at least keep this place from falling over from the majority left lean.

I am sure the reason for this letter and post is to try and appear neutral. Maybe the left lean comes from those that admin, or approve topics?

But thanks for the site!
And IMO IAB is pretty solidly left. So much so that the righties stand out (CrakrJak I`m thinking of you)
That`s probably because I`m just more vocal about it than most conservatives here. When a conservative voices their opinion they risk getting unfair and untrue labels hurled at them like racist, bigot, homophobe, sexist, redneck, stupid, etc. Most would rather stay silent then be falsely accused or get in a heated argument.

All I know is the American 2 party political system no longer works! Washington is so separated from the real world that law makers make decisions that strictly benefit their wallets, rather than doing whats best for the American people.

Things have to change and many of us were hopeful that Obama was the man to get the ball rolling in the right direction towards that change, but in the end he fell victim to the same greed as all other politicians. He was naive to think he could do so much, and we were naive to believe it. Personally I think total social upheaval is the only thing that`s going to turn this country around.

This is interesting.

It reminds me of a theory in Communications, I think it was called "Emergence Theory" or something similar to that. Basically a person will only seek out information that affirms their previously held beliefs, i.e. a conservative primarily watching Fox, whilst a liberal will primarily watch MSNBC. Also, when confronted with information conflictory to their own beliefs, rather then seeing it as another person`s viewpoint, they see it as "attacking" their own.

I personally believe that this is because so many people think that they OWN their beliefs, that it as a possession of their own self. Persons speak to one and another in such a spiteful, virulent manner because they see that someone with an opposing viewpoint is a potential danger to them losing [their status to] their "property", their beliefs.

Whats funny is that to me, on the outside looking in, the Repulicans and Democrats look like two buddys, on the same team, who have agreed to run America, and alternatively screw up different parts of it. But they have a very consitant forgeign policy of bullying the world (love you guys!). Just two buddies taking turns running things, nothing special, nothing to see here, just move along.

If I lived in the USA, a problem for me would be that economic right-wing (with whom I sometimes agree) always comes in the conservative morals package, on which I don`t agree at all.

The tone of the post largely depends on the OP. 5Cats and Crakr are so rightwing it`s almost sickening. Madest and davy are so leftwing it`s almost sickening. Gerry just tries to creep people out and make them check to make sure they have their doors locked. Pretty balanced as far as I can tell.

Obama`s handlings are not exactly made public! We see the outcome but we don`t see all poo wading he does. Dealing with non-nice individuals & dicks who have one in one goal to sabotage him.
You see what media wants you to see.
There are independent site that chronologically document what he managed to pass in-spite of As&Ds . For those who are looking.
I am disappointed that he pussied out of legalizing pot though.

LOLZ! It`s all my fault!~ I accept the blame!

Not really, Obama is just plain awful, period. He`s brought this ALL on himself. Too bad the USA (and therefor Canada) are going to crash and burn because of it.
Remember when the MSM said Palin didn`t have enough experience to be VICE-President? I do. She had MORE experience than BHO; FFS.

So there you go!
SOME people think 50/50 coverage of an issue is BIASED! It should be 80/20 slanted to what THEY believe!

I`m glad IAB has waaaay more balance than the MSM. Thx Mods!

vv Agree Ben. I don`t come here for the posts, I come for the comments. And in general, IABers are a great bunch, it`s why I love the site so much. And I don`t think it`s unfair to say that your average IABer is way more intelligent (and funnier) than your average internet denizen, no matter what side of the political spectrum they fall on, or neither. Huzzah!

this mods states his opinion as if it is fact but then says, "I am not on either side"

I don`t think IAB agrees on any political (or religious) view, but that`s part of what makes it great. We get crap posts later than most websites and a hefty amount of reposts, but the arguments are what keep us coming back.

My superior political views cannot be expressed in a single dimension.

I don`t care what IAB`s stance is, but the entertainment has been lacking for a while now. If you`re going to make political posts, can they at least be making fun of someone?

the politics debates on here spur some pretty interesting conversation, it`s neither pro nor con of either side really... but i do wish the site would go back to the good ol` days when there were more quality links, and less stupid pictures.

Really the Dems are too busy posting sh*t on IAB than do their job in congress and the Reps are too busy tea-bagging to post.
Thats how I`ve seen it over the years anyway.

this is just stupid, we all know iab isn`t pro-anything. we also know that most of the members here are political, the comments on political material here always has you guys screaming over the internet at each other anyway. please.... carry on with the random links fancy and friends. you`re doing fine, and ignore political d-bags who strive to accuse anything of being what it already is. Links are just dratin links, bro. They don`t have opinions.

I think that in IAB both factions are well represented.Debates are allways balanced. In any case i find politics discussion a good way to fight boredom, someone can think different and find funny just the new joke on Justin Bieber. But this is the strenght of IAB lot of topics for lot of heads with different ages and interests. In any case we don`t have a limited space for what we want to post so if you don`t like politics topics you can chose to watch others things.

My knowledge of American politics comes entirely from cartoons and IAB. As far as I can tell, Obama has stayed too towards the middle. He`s left, so the rights by default don`t like him, but he`s not left enough for most of the lefts.
But still, if you guys ever want to trade, we`ll give you 2 for the price of 1.

And IMO IAB is pretty solidly left. So much so that the righties stand out (CrakrJak I`m thinking of you)

Well... thats just someones biased opinion. Personally i have viewed all Obama related content on here and belive its quite mutual with either opinion that is being offered. I find no biased approach with the posts, rather stating the obvious in most circumstances. The only biased opinions being displayed are that of the comments which are being left. However thats how a healthy arguement/debate is made, pro`s and con`s. I believe this letter is biased as the writer`s obviously only seeing what it wants to see rather then the whole picture, i believe this is referred to as tunnel vision.

I guess this proved people only see what they want to see. Or am I only seeing what I want to see? Mind baffling.
