I love this! Reminds me of the reaction from my dogs when I came home from my deployments.

You gotta love a dog that is capable of giving it`s person a hug.

As cute as that video is, I couldn`t help but think they need to invest in a monster sized pooper scooper.

Big dogs are awesome. They show way more compassion toward their owners than little dogs do.

Not to take anything away from the serviceman coming home after serving his country for us, but my dog acts like that when I get back from the mailbox.

@Klamz, Have you never had a large dog jump on you?
I`ve had a large German Sheperd who has jumped on me before and it`s a bit daunting, you most likely reel back on the weight of the dog + the awkward placement the dog has on your body.

The "defensive" stuff you`re talking about is probably the guy not wanting the dog to accidentally paw his face in excitement or something which happens when dogs are big and dorky like this, and also they don`t know that it hurts.

Our Great Dane deals with my brothers returning home from being stationed elsewhere a bit differently. She`s not a jumper, but once they sit down she is going to get in their laps (all 150 lbs of her) so they can`t leave her again. She`ll squeeze herself into whatever bed they`re in for the duration of their stay just so they won`t be able to leave during the night either.

And MonoBrow, Great Danes really don`t need large yards if you walk them. They aren`t supposed to run around much during their developmental stages because of how fast their bones grow, and then after that they generally become couch potatoes for like 90% of the day. A good walk and access to the yard for a few hours every day will make him a happy dog. Mine has free access to the yard all day in the summer but is currently snoring on her bed.

His hand positioning and movements suggest he`s defending against the dog attacking him... On top of that most dogs would be much more riled up to see someone they hadn`t see in so long. I think he beats the dog.

This actually bought a tear to my eye. I remember coming back to my family home from 10 months in New Zealand, and this is the exact reaction our Great Dane gave me. Anyway, a couple of months later I went off to do my final year at university, and 3 weeks after I left, he unexpectedly died due to a respiratory problem. Dogs truly are a man`s best friend.

It`s not. Sorry about that. Must have been a nervous twitch by the mod who approved it. Fixed now. Also want to apologize for the day full of thumbnail-less posts. On top of that now too.

As you were.

"I feel bad for that dog having such a small yard to play in...
that`s terrible! D="
I`d agree, but, that looks like base housing to me. There`s really a lot of spots to be walked (or pull someone in this case) and play around most bases. As long as they make an effort, he should be fine
