This is stupid. 120 million years ago Africa was buddy buddy with S. America. 100 million years from now, there should be no continental shift, just all the continents sinking gradually into the ocean?

There`s a more interesting theory out there. That the Earth was small and has gained mass since it`s forming. It makes more sense than these shifting plates, so that`s what I`m gonna run with. Linky.

    xxxxxxx Wrong.
Iceland. You can see the split between the American and European plates, and see where it`s been measured over the years. You can see it`s moving apart about and inch per year.

Measurable, exact, proof. It`s called "science".

I have a favour to ask. I double-dog-dare you to call someone in northern Japan that had family members killed in the earthquake/tsunami double whammy and reassure them that Plate Tectonics is "only a theory". I`d just love to hear the response you get.

Madest, Expanding Earth Theory, really? That Theory was proposed in the 1830s and died a death in the 1960s, BEFORE the Theory of Plate Tectonics. Dude, thats akin to saying "I know all this Theory of Gravity that everyone`s talking about, but I think that Zeus carries the sun across the sky every day in his chariot. It makes more sense than this Gravity, so that`s what I`m gonna run with.

Please man, if you take it from anyone, please for the love of the wee baby Jesus take it from a professional geologist with a PhD (largely in plate tectonics), who finds oil & gas using Plate Tectonics (which works), who also happens to be your buddy. Pretty please?

The oceans are expanding, tectonic plate movement is very predictable, glaciers prove a lot.
Well, some are expanding, such as the Atlantic. We can literally watch it doing so. Others are contracting due to subduction at their margin, such as the Pacific. Refer to my comment about the Japan earthquake below, or San Andreas, or The Andes, or the Marianas Trench, or the Ring of Fire for evidence. And again, we can literally watch it doing so.

Also, what do glaciers have to do with proving Plate Tectonics? Not trying to be facetious, just not following you there...

As for the video itself, of course it`s a possibility, but it`s only a forward model, an imagining if you will. It`s like trying to predict what earth`s climate will be like in 100 million years` time.

One of my favourite quotes, not sure who said it first: "Some models are more useful than others, but all of them are wrong".

Is it too much to reason that the God who created an entire world could also create the science that makes it work?

Madest: I don`t know about the theory of the earth gaining mass, but it seem logical that water is being subducted into the mantle becoming superheated steam and creating porous rock from which the expansion comes into play.

A good example of this is watching how underwater lava expands and looks like it`s foaming out of underwater vents. Another example are the abundance of dissolved gasses present in the Atlantic Ocean rift rocks. The proliferation of geodes, trapped gasses inside spheres of igneous rock, is yet another example.

    Okay."

Sure they did, then they were like, "Wait, why would a being who can create universes and dimensions with a spoken word need to go through this needlessly complicated process, why can`t he make it happen with magic?"

And then they came to the consensus that a god doesn`t exist.

The argument of God`s existence is pointless because it is impossible to prove or disprove. From our limited view we couldn`t possibly try to rationalize the thought process of another being, let alone an omnipotent one.

Either you believe or you don`t. Hopefully we all find out in the end.

Ryan: You have a point there, people try to put limits on God`s power. Since God is omnipotent there are no limits, scientific or otherwise, for him.

Of course there is no way to prove that, we take it on faith. Believe it or not, an omnipotent, omniscient, omnipresent God scares a lot of people and they`d rather believe in science alone.
Atheists would say that deists are only moral people because we fear God, and thus claim their morality is superior, but really most atheists fear God more than any deist does.

Are you serious? If you really believe that you probably don`t know many atheists. Atheist demand proof, they ain`t just going to read a bible and say, oh I believe now. In science terms, Atheist go all the way to the conclusion step, while a believer will stay at the theory.

AJ: I was just dishing it out in the same way Budiah did to demonstrate the falsehood of his stereotype.

It was written to provoke a response, for if my statement was dumb, so was theirs.

I can`t prove the existence of God to anyone, but atheists can`t prove evolution or science being the end-all-be-all answer to life on earth either. It`s a matter of belief either way.
