Cameraman Is Arrested By New York Police

Submitted by: hovalady411 5 years ago

Why you might ask? Because he was filming them on public property which is 100% legal in NY. Our rights are slipping...

@ Mongulman - If cops didn`t arrest people for doing lawful things, then these videos would stop attracting attention. I will admit, I am biased. I think every instance the public deals with the police should be video tapped. This is to protect both the police and the people.

Mogulman, I can understand your point of view, but these videos keep police in check (well let`s hope so anyhow).

Pertaining to your second paragraph, in my humble opinion, to compare a police officer to teachers, builders etc is a stretch. If a teacher has a bad day and takes it out on you you’re able to defend yourself verbally or physically. If a police officer takes it out on you, you can`t exactly do the same, unless you want to be arrested, tazed, beaten or worst. Choosing to become a police officer comes with a different set of rules. I have nothing but respect for the police, but if they abuse the power that they are entrusted (<-- important word here) with, then they should be made example of. Videos of these disgraceful acts can serve as a warning not to abuse their power.

You are right though, we should consider that for the most part police do make our lives better, and not let the actions of a few sully the name of the rest.

They know they can arrest you on bogus charges and drop them later.

The fact that videos like this get so much attention really upsets me. All we ever see and hear about is how police officers are arresting people or beating up people without warrant or lawful reason. These videos become popular because people like to have something to protest or be upset about.

The fact is that these are rare instances where some cop who is having a bad day, ego trip, or whatever lashes out. The actual frequency of this happening in the real world is very rare, it just seems to happen more often because we see it on websites like this so much (at least one a week). ANY profession will have people who are really bad and give the rest a bad name. There are bad taxi drivers, bad teachers, bad builders, etc. But the actions of a few should never diminish the work of the rest.

So please, consider how the police really do make our country a safer one to live in. 99.9% of the time, their actions save lives. Most of them are people just trying to fee

"If you`re going to go out and video tape police to see if they will arrest you (obviously what he`s doing), you might want to read the statues on wire in a public place, maybe even bring a copy with you to show them, that way you have extremely easy grounds for a suit of wrongful arrest."

You claim it to be your "right", yet it has no direct association with someone recording the police doing their work. The majoirty of the time, these cameramen get way too close, and start yelling . This IS a direct violation of your laws, i.e. Interfering with a police officer performing their duties.

If you fail to move away when requested, you can be arrested and charge for obstruction.

"Out of all of these videos not once has a camera man bother to actually reference the law to the officer, they just say yes I can and I have a right to do it."

LOL are you serious? It`s the first amendment of the Constitution of the United States. There is no higher law. The police ought to be required to know it.
Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances.
This guy wasn`t just some guy with a video camera `Harassing` the pigs. He is an ACCREDITED member of the MEDIA. (you can see the pig reading his press pass at 00:26)The camera man leaves as requested, contacts the departments PIO (public information officer, the guy in the department that is required by law to determine and provide media access), who instructs him where to stand to do his job. The pig still arrests him.

When a cop can look at the law, know it`s legal and arrests you anyways, YOU WIN!

Right now the choices are being a sheep or being a moron, perhaps someone would like to try the intelligent approach next time?

Ever hear a cop say "well, if you haven`t done anything wrong then you shouldn`t be afraid"?

Only arrogant, self-righteous, know-it-all, never done anything wrong in my life people become cops/judges/priests/ministers.

The good people who actually wanna help society become firefighters/EMT/Teachers.

.....and that`s why the world hates pigs.

@number43: it doesn`t matter how many good cops there are. As long as there are bad cops and the hierarchy turns a blind eye, the whole organization is at fault.

How many of you people complaining about police being inherently bad have ridden with a cop? I did several and was very impressed with the way things were handled. If you feel the state of policing is so dire then sign up and make a difference.

When cops abuse their authority to enforce their will there are only two outcomes I consider to be acceptable. 1. Publicly apologize and resign. 2. Have your chief take you out behind the police station and put you down like the rabid dog you are.

Cops like this put the rest in danger by breeding mistrust and contempt.

I don`t feel safe talking to a police officer in private. I believe every uniformed police officer should have a shoulder-mounted video camera, recording from the moment he steps out of the locker room to when he clocks out for the day. That way, any incidents with the police can be settled by "Well let`s look at the video." The money saved on internal investigations from bogus complaints that can be proven false with a few minutes of video footage will pay for the equipment. There is no `privacy` when you are a uniformed officer in the course of your job, and people will behave when they know their actions are being recorded.

any law banning us from filming the police at work is ILLEGAL and HAS TO BE CHALLENGED. If the challenge fails then action is needed. We do have the right to civil disobedience and never forget it because mark my words, one day you will be glad you remembered them.

Sure, there are bad cops but not all of them and it has to be getting old when every day there is some jerk whack with a camera and less than a 5th grade comprehension of the constitution, amendments and laws “copping “ an attitude with you when you are just doing your job. Can you imagine being at you place of work, and having some di ck head coming up to you and videotaping you? What about your constitutional right to privacy? As far as a police scene there are also eavesdropping laws which apply. If all else fails see- Chris Rock ; How not to get your ass kicked by the police! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uj0mtxXEGE8

"I love how EVERYBODY likes to post videos showing cops being "mean" or "rude" but nobody posts videos of them doing a good job or arresting a crazy person that went on a crime spree."

1. When authorities break the laws they are to enforce, it needs to be brought to light. Why do you think they object to cameras in the first place?

2. There are plenty of places to see police doing good, might I suggest Cops "reality" TV.

3. Why is it ok for cameras to follow the police for a tv show, but reporters on the street are somehow doing something wrong?

@Gerry1of1- couldn`t agree more. Also, There was a video recently of a cop doing his job exceptionally well.

These are not isolated incidents by any means. The US has a pervasive problem with law enforcement, and while the issue is complex, the most important factor is a total and complete lack of accountability. When a police officer tramples a citizen`s rights, there are rarely ever significant consequences. And when citizens demand accountability, such as when Eugene, OR established a citizen review board to assess complaints of police abuse (after one of Eugene`s finest went to prison for his 10-year streak of raping women he`d picked up on drug charges), the cops cry "no fair."

Maybe there aren`t any videos like that?
Or maybe we just shouldn`t have to pat them on the back for doing the bare minimum job requirement?

These video record an escelating trend of Cops vs Us
