RIP Facebook. I hope they can do it, and I can`t wait to see the world, and some of my friends, after it`s gone. Of course, it will be back, or something just like it. Sad, really. But it is who we are now. I just hope this is for real, because it wasn`t nearly as cleanly worded as some of the things I`ve seen from them in the past. Their letter to the Westboro Baptist Church, for instance, was a pretty great example of English language writing. I really do hope they have a plan to pull this off. I`d help if I knew how.

Please excuse the double post, I wanna add on to my other post...

Anonymous at the moment is pretty much Summerfags and Bronies, why the hell would we fear them? Sure they`re Anon, but most of them couldn`t even use CMD much less than hack Facebook.

Granted they can always DDoS it, but goddamn, I would think Facebook would have some kind of pretty good protection against that. It IS run by one of the richest men in the country after all.

YOu don`t have a right to privacy if you allow Facebook to sell your data in the Terms of Agreement.

Female 171
You generally don`t post anything online that you wouldn`t want the entire world to know. Besides, I am married, furry isn`t just a fetish, and I don`t feel the need to hide who I am from people.
Its not like its mandatory for everyone to use Facebook. There are alternatives. No one is being forced.
0

Female 105
@CoFBunny For instance, Shara, the fact that most of your visited websites are about "furries" doesn`t bother me, but it might bother, say, a future husband who doesn`t know about such a fetish... or your kids.

Besides, even if you don`t care, you have the RIGHT to privacy. Giving FB a warning ahead of time might help them to wise up and change their crappy policies.
0

Female 105
@CoFBunny Because YOU need to worry about "government spying", and it`s not just the government doing it. It`s anyone who wants to find you -- your neighbors, new boyfriends, ex-boyfriend stalkers, potential employers, potential landlords, parents, siblings, church/synagogue members, banks you apply for loans, credit card companies, health insurance companies, local cops, attorneys, colleges/business associations you apply to -- all of them can see your entire Facebook history with little effort, even the stuff you`ve supposedly deleted. And with Facebook`s little "connect to every other website!" invention, now all those people can also see every website you`ve ever signed up for and read every comment you`ve ever left on those websites.

You`re young, so maybe you have nothing to hide now. But as your social circle grows so do your experiences, and you won`t want everyone in your social circle to have access to every single thing you`ve ever done.

Female 171
Why not just let the people who have no worry of "government spying" have their facebook? Why do they feel the need to destroy something. Why not, you know, just not f-ing use it. Stupid freaking self righteous hackers...

@madduck That`s not necessarily true. It`s not just your account. It`s all of your friends and mutual friends on facebook and every post and chat message sent by them, so much as mentioning your name. If your friends are posting about you or talking about you on facebook chat, anything they say about you can easily be brought up by searching to see if your name has been mentioned. All chat messages sent are saved on the facebook`s servers. They remain so long after even the user`s sending them have lost access to those old sent messages.

Really? Without the likes of facebook, the government doesn`t get a ton of private information handed to them. Do you know how the riots will be handled in the future? Oh, you say that people organized these events on facebook. BOOM. There goes at least 3/4 of the rioting population on federal charges. They already use it to catch people with certain crimes as it is. Don`t be so ignorant.

Why do people wonder if this is "really from anonymous"? It`s not like they have a board of directors. They have always claimed that they are everyone. If some random guy says he is going to do something and credits anonymous, then it`s done by anonymous.
So let them "attack" facebook with their silly DoS or whatever they plan to use to "shut them down". I guess I can wait a few days to see pics of my nephew.
All I ask is that they stop with the BS public statements. Until they do something constructive I could care less what their opinion is.

Facebook is inescapable. It`s everywhere being built into our society with buttons and logo`s on phones and TV`s. There are websites where commenting on forums like these are denied unless you`re a member. Facebook is a cult. Attempting to lock in a permanent foothold. They have 600million users. Targeted advertising is one thing, selling your information to corporations is quite another.

All the DDOS attacks (as far as I know something like strategicly overloading the servers of a website) are merely symbolic, and actually pose no threat to any organisation. However, I could believe that there are sophisticated hackers that might hitch a ride on the "anonymous train", who could really bring down the site plus accessing the servers.
However, FACEBOOK is, right after the google network, the second biggest money machine on the internet. Those people will have sever security meassures, and if anything fails, they will take the servers of the net, fix the security hole and put the site back up. Some personal data, may will be stolen though...

Interesting that they gave a warning. They seem to be proving a point this time, they`re taking on the biggest website in the entire internet and giving loads of warning for them to be prepared. If they succeed then they`ve shown no site is untouchable, if they fail they show Anonymous isn`t all powerful. IMO this is a major battle in the war that Anonymous seems to be fighting.
0

Male 3,482
remember, anon is known for complete take over of sites and systems, not simply blocking access.
Since when?

You probably sick around 4chan to see what they CLAIM they`re doing, rather than actually checking the facts.

Seriously, they`ve launched attacks on banks. What did they do? They DDoS`ed the websites. That`s it. They didn`t hack any information, they didn`t cause any bank errors. They shut down a couple websites for a few hours. People survived by going to the bank locations, which were still working perfectly.

Anonymous is over-blown and over-estimated. It`s a bunch of autistic losers who consider themselves hackers sitting around in their parents basements bringing down a few websites and occasionally cracking the security measures of a poorly protected forum.
0
Reply
Male 3,482
Plus, if they`re going to hit Facebook, all they`re doing is providing cover for the REAL hacker assh*les (not the script-kiddie DDOS-using morons that Anonymous consists of) to break into Facebook and steal information themselves.
0
Reply
Male 3,482
And this is why I don`t support Anonymous. This is probably the dumbest idea for a raid I`ve heard from them yet.

You think Facebook is the only website that sells information? You`re retarded. How do you think most advertisers and telemarketers get their information in the first place?

You think Facebook knows more about you then your family? It`s your own f*cking fault for putting so much information on it.

Then there`s the goals of protecting "privacy" and "freedom of information." It`s retarded because they`re mutually exclusive: if information is private, it`s not free. If information is free, it`s not private. Which means the only way to protect private information is to not give it out. Once you put the info out there, it`s fair game. That`s what freedom of information is.

i really dont care if facebook has my info. lets think for a moment:

personal info they have of me:
my phone number (already in teh phone book)
my email (already listed in about a jillion places including amazon, google, borders and my business cards)
photos of me with my friends (what are they going to do? show them to my mom?)

this is all just paranoid poeple being paranoid and delusional. Most of the info on facebook is already readily available to most people. Even if they are `handing out` our info to companies, i`ve never gotten spam from it, so i really don`t give a poo.

So facebook has access to my contact info. So the f-ck what? as long as i can still hide the pics of my last party from my mom, i dont care if some company is interested in knowing that i like The Dark Knight and cupcakes.

Anon is pathetic, they`ve tried this many many times and got their ***es handed to them and everyone laughs at them.

DDOS attack`s were a big thing 15 years ago. these days it basically makes them script kiddies, learn to hack or STFU!

Relying on the populous to DL a program and help crash a site, hahaha, truly pathetic if that`s all they`ve got.

Not to mention their organization is getting picked off 1 by 1, not so anonymous anymore eh

@Deviros no. No theyre not. The MOST they can do is ddos it. Facebook is KNOWN to have some of the most stable and secure servers available.

Sure, they MIGHT (and thats a very big might) pull it off, but that would mean being able to effectively disable multiple server hubs, as well as get through their security.

Al that video shows is one, maybe two people are trying to act like internet heroes and made a video. Then they say its in the name of other people. It`s an age old story that rarely if ever works.

Besides if it did, guess who`s gonna go to prison for a good couple of years. You see, it is very easy to trace people on the internet. Proxy or not.

Whatever, I only use facebook to give my mom pictures anyway. And so she doesn`t have to call me to have hours long chats about her most recent set of surgeries (in full detail complete with gore) since she can just post it. I often support anon`s causes but I really hate when they do these things and assume they`re doing good and that we`ll thank them for it later. I`m sorry but anyone who`s stupid enough to put personal info that they don`t want people to see on fb deserves people to see it. I use fb partially for the games and partially to talk to people who I never would have even met, who live all the way on the other side of the world. It`s the easiest way for us to share information about our common interests and common causes despite living nowhere close to each other. Without facebook, I could still try to get in contact with them, but it`d be very inefficient considering we live in vastly different time zones. I couldn`t give a poo if anyone gets my info if the alternative is not being able to communicate with these people anymore.

I`m not saying they dont. There`s already a pretty big movement. But other than maybe 10 or 20 skilled hackers working together, the rest they do is just post instructionals on 4chan to recruit more people into using the LOIC. It`s not a very organized plan, and in the end all they have is a bunch of unorganized people DDOSing a website.
Still effective though.

As a internet user from very long time, i`ve noticed that the web in last period is become less free. For sure one of the causes is the raise of social network. They are dominating the net from long time now and they have ,directly or indirectly, reduced the freedom of the web. So i still don`t know if what anonymus have planned to do is good or not but i feel that a changement, also if drastic, can help the genuine interweb to come back to the origins.

Anonymous use the mask worn by "V" in the movie V for Vendetta (awesome movie). The mask is based on the image of Guy Fawkes.
Guy Fawkes, or bonfire night, is commemorated on the 5th November in th UK. Also in the V for Vendetta movie it is the night they indeed blow up the Houses of Parliament, ending the governments big brother-esque rule over the UK.
Google Guy Fawkes or the Gunpowder plot.

-sigh-
This is not a threat from anonymous, this is a threat from one guy. Sure, maybe there is a plan in action on /b/, but even if they get 10000 people to do this, half the people on /b/ wont even know about it.

The information I put out on FaceBook I have no problem with the entire world knowing. I think it is a little misguided to think that any information you put on the internet is private, anyone can view it if they want to. So if you don`t want people knowing poo, don`t post it.

Congrats on the wedding. My wedding was on 11/5 also.

"Freedom of Information" but I won`t tell you my name.

Spy on people? We all know net-companies give out info and anyone on FaceBook gave the information willingly. When did personal responsability become such a dirty thing?

Anonymous is made up of cowardly attention whores

@DracObi: because there are simply too many of them. They aren`t just a small group of people - they stemmed from a group on 4chan, and grew into a monster. Shows what the internet can create =D

Could you arrest an entire country? not really - and trying to track down every member of anon would be... pretty much impossible.

"Yes, all humanity should revert back to the primal state and prioritize copulation."

There`s a hell of a lot more point to it than these pointless little movements they try and make just to give the lives they spend in their basements some meaning. 11/6 will come, and everything will go back to normal. Anybody dumb enough to put too much information on Facebook deserves whatever consequences (i.e. ones that are COMPLETELY overblown and will never really affect them) come their way, anyhow.

@tedgp: it`s highly unlikely that anon would use LOIC for this. they will probably do far more than DDoS it either - remember, anon is known for complete take over of sites and systems, not simply blocking access.

They likely have a zero-day and are waiting to use it, or are trying to make sure that they have the whole plan in place, before they do - assuming of course, it`s legit.

Could they use LOIC? sure - but only to secure access - LOIC - stop hammering long enough to get in - open access - turn LOIC back on, do the damage needed, get out, and leave LOIC running long enough to make it difficult. then poof - done.

I want it on the record that I am a fan of Anonymous and I admire their work. I wish I was smart enough to be a member of their Army but sadly, I am just a dolt.

@pelos12: i disagree. The fronts that anon fight on are the face of the new wars and the way that the first and second world is headed means that the manner in which they do these things are becoming very important.

I think the wave of the future will be different government groups like usseccom and unit8200 waging war against other nations on a completely intangible front, with groups like anon and lulzsec (are they still around?) running interference.

If anything, they are preparing people for the way things will be to come. Sure, there`s still going to be guns`n`bombs, but they won`t be the only way to fight.

the reason this will fail is because 4chan is soo mainstream, it isnt anon anymore. everyone is on it.

i don`t understand how knowing I "like" Doritos or that I have 300 photos tagged of me on Facebook will help the Syrian government in anyway. I`m more afraid that Anonymous will take all of my photos and release them in 20 years when I`m a huge movie star!

@peloos12 Aspergers won`t let them get laid.

Alright, here`s a question. If the government really does monitor the internet like is claimed, and Facebook is selling secrets of the American people to hostile nations, then why hasn`t the Government shut down Facebook?
