This is not racism. Calling someone `black` is not racist. Calling someone `white` is not racist. Adding a negative slur to the adjectives to indicate that people of that race are somehow inferior - that is racism.

Ha, Going to Starbucks for coffee is like going to prison to get sex, sure you will get some but it`s pretty rough.
Oh, should have written "dumb I am a racist!" on the cup to cut out the confusion.

I hope I-A-B is aware that labelling the man a `Black Guy` is not racist, right? It`s a description of him. Perhaps not the best one, but it`s a valid one. It is neither derogatory nor alludes to any prejudice against his skin colour. Why you so daft, I-A-B?

Yeah, I kind of hate that the "must see photo galleries" link to the wrong thing. This is some bullpoo post that isn`t even funny. :/

As with the rest of the world, I just have no idea anymore. Yes we have different races. Yes, they are very noticeable. Yes, we all make assumptions based on those races. Yes, we will all die in the end. Yes, I have better things to do than to worry about it.

He is clearly not black, his skin color is brown. Black is black,White is white. and I`ve never seen a human with natural black or white skin.

Eh, it`s descriptive.

I`d be fine with someone saying "the white guy" if that was the best cue at the time.
Or "the guy with the glasses and curly hair"
Or "the guy wearing nothing but a thong bikini and singing Neil Diamond"

I mean whichever is most descriptive at the moment.
Alternatively, give a name.

Was the guy black? Was that useful in identifying him?

If the answer to both is `yes` then this is not racist by any sane definition!

That`s Chad Ochocinco.. and he told them to do that. It says "the black guy in shades."

First time and second time.. he gets bored apparently.

Maybe if the "black guy" had left his name like you`re supposed to, no one would written this in the first place.
But what a lot of fuss over nothing, anyway.

It reminds me of when I used to work at Starbucks (inb4 barista isn`t a job title) and someone would order a Black Eye, and it always sounded like black guy... I`d do a double take every time.

You know if I was in a Starbucks full of black people and my cup said "the white guy" I wouldn`t give a damn. Last time I checked, I am definitely a white guy. Besides, if I was the only white guy that would be the easiest way to identify me.

If my coffee said "white dude, long hair" , I wouldn`t be offended...hell, if it said "kid in the black shirt" or something who f*cking cares?

now if it said "That douche in the black shirt" i would probably say "Yo, not f*cking cool" but i wouldn`t make a big deal about it...

Whether or not it`s actually "racist" by technical terms, it could still get the company in a bit of trouble if the customer at hand was insulted by being identified via race. It`s a touchy subject to a lot of people.

It`s also entirely possible that this is being taken out of context.

Well i don`t think its raciest, if he was the only black guy in there its a way of marking someone for that order. If i was the only white guy in the shop it may say "the white guy" and i would not take offence to that after-all i am white

I agree, it`s not racist, but they could`ve written it somewhere that the sleeve could hide it or something. I mean, he`s probably going to be carrying that around to other places.

It has to be derogatory for it to be racist. Pointing out that someone is black is not racist.

Hardly racist, it`s how you remember who to give the order to when you are really busy. You note the most distinguishing feature of the person.

Who wrote it on the cup? Do Starbucks employees write on the cups like that?

Anyway, it`s a valid visual identifier at the moment despite being so obviously wrong. There`s some more writing that the camera angle didn`t quite conceal, so it wasn`t just "the black guy". A description like "the black guy in a grey suit" (or whatever it was) would work well enough to enable the employee serving coffee to identify whose coffee it is.

If I went in, maybe they`d write "the white guy with glasses" on the cup. Same sort of thing.

Not racist.

How is it racist? He seemingly IS a black guy. I`m a fat guy, if it said "the fat guy on the couch" or something I wouldn`t claim it an attack, as it`s an easy way to identify me from what I obviously am.
