    yawn
    sand storm, not big deal. happens all the time.
    or if it`s fine sand they`ll call it dust storm, still it`s normal for that area.

    @Gerry1of1

    Okay? And stonings of people to death are normal in the middle east. It`s not normal to us so it still fascinates us. (as an example)

    It`s not all THAT normal, and this is an excellent shot. I didn`t know it was coming, so I was surprised when it went from early evening light outside to pitch black in about 5 minutes.

    @Boredered - sandstorms are totally normal in the desert. all acrossed texas, new mexico, and arizona. The only reason California doesn`t get them is because the mountains stop them at the border.

    and how did you get "stoning people" out of what I said about sand storms?

    Got drama?

    I`m surprised by how much attention this got. I live there and it was intense, but I mean, only as intense as a dust storm can get... The weirdest part was how orange it is inside. Of course there is a lot of dirt on everything afterwords, but we`ve suffered much worse storms without all this media attention.

    Ajikan...not fun at all. Kind of cool; but you can`t really go outide. It went from sunny to pitch black in a matter of seconds and took HOURS for the dust to settle.
    Cyberdynex...that`s exactly what I was thinking when it got really bad last night.

    Upon checking the dictionary, I have learned what a haboob is.

    haboob
    noun
    a violent and oppressive wind blowing in summer, esp. in Sudan, bringing sand from the desert.
    ORIGIN late 19th cent.: from Arabic habūb ‘blowing furiously.’

    Now we know. (And knowing is half the battle!)
