Been a while since I did chemistry but I`m preeetty sure you weren`t supposed to pour things like sulphuric acid down the sink into the normal draining system.

Looks liek a cheap sponge, which is made out of very very cheap fibres and drain cleaner. Of course it`s gonna act like this. ANd yes it is in a kitchen/laundry room, not a lab.

i used to work at bottling plant for various cleaners, acids and washer fluids. one day a palette of SA fell off a truck and 82 bottles broke releasing the fumes into the air. one person`s contacts started to melt and when she took them out, they were halfway melted... this ish is not joke... she had problems with her eyes for months after the fact...

This is Garry Newman, he made garry`s mod, he posted this on his blog, the reason he poured it down the drain is because he want to B&Q (hardware store) to buy drain cleaner, to unclog his drains, it`s designed to go down drains.

I love sulPHuric acid... it effectively sucks all the moisture out of something leaving it as a carbon backbone in many cases - like the sugar experiment - put SA on it and it will rip all the -OH residues off leaving just the carbon behind (in a gloopy charcoal-esque state)

... What did they wash it down with, because water+strong acid (in the wrong order) = hellhole.

Why would you even do that in a sink? You`ve got to dilute it down to a pH you can dispose of.

So many things wrong in this vid

As it was being poured... the liquid was slightly purple... kinda only remember it being clear
Pouring it into a metal sink... I hope those weren`t your pipes
I`ve only seen sulfuric acid stored in glass containers and probably for a good reason.
It kinda looked like fumes were coming off of the sponge, just take a deep breath and feel the burn... in the lungs. Next time do this under a flame hood with proper ventilation.
I`m not sure what the molarity (`strength`) of the acid was but not using gloves when it decimated the sponge was an excellent idea.

Now for those of you at home thinking that this would be awesome to do... don`t. Ask your chem teacher after school if they can do this and nine times out of ten they will bust it out with the proper safety precautions. Besides the flaming gummy bear is much more exciting.
