Rangers Fan Dies From Fall

Submitted by: madest 5 years ago in Sports

Ball was tossed to the stands by Josh Hamilton. Guy had to have it and reached a little too far over the railing...

So how many firefighters has George Bush watched die at this point? He`s got quite a tally going on there.

Putting up nets and safety rails all over would block the fans view of the game. Hardly practical. It`s sad, but I`d wager more people are hurt and killed in traffic accidents comming to and going from the game, eh?

It`s perception, not reality.

That`s sad and all, but I bet they will put up safety nets, or something, all around the stadium now.

For now, Darwin: 1 (almost 2), Rangers Ballpark: 0

Updated with Simcoe`s link, although embedding is disabled.

Shame for the guy, and especially his family.

xCYBERDYNEx - "That`s messed up, they need to implement new safety features out there. This happened exactly 1 year and 1 day after someone else fell at the same ballpark."

No, people need to be responsible for their own actions. The railing is there so that people don`t just fall off the edge, NOT so you can lean over it to grab a $5 ball. If anything people should start getting ejected for putting themselves in harms way for a stupid souvenir.

Good riddance to the dad, for not looking out for his child`s future needs and putting his life on the line for a $5 ball.

News report on the incident that does show the video, but you don`t see anything.

They said it looked like he actually caught the ball. I can`t imagine that the family would want it though. What an awkward conversation that would be. I feel so bad for his son. He was right there when it happened and it looked like the rest of the family was not there. How terrible for him. :(

Not that I`m particularly interested in watching a guy fall to his (soon to be) death, but the video has been removed.

that`s awful... Poor kid =( the dad was reaching that far probably was getting it for his son, not for himself.

Poor kid watched his dad fall and then had to be taken down by the person next to him to his body to say goodbye before he passed. So sad.

That`s too bad. With all the empty seats it looks like the Rangers need all the fans they can get.

Guy was named Shannon Stone. He was alive and then on the way to the hospital he died from injuries sustained.

For his sake, I really hope he loved the Rangers.

a) i love how the commentators casually chuckle about it before they grasp the gravity of the situation, and the game continues on.

b) how do you think the player that threw the ball up to them feels?

The most exciting thing to happen to baseball since...well the beginning of baseball!

The fall was bad because he was pinned between the board and the stands, most of the way down. It "aimed" him at the ground, head first.

After the fall, witnesses said he was asking for someone to check on his son. He was awake and moving. The newspapers are reporting that he died of heart failure, in the ambulance, on the way to the hospital.

The whole thing is a terrible tragedy. Not only was a life lost, but another (his son`s) has been forever destroyed. How does one grow up normally, being present when something like this happens? My thoughts go out to his son and family.

@davisboy

I think the irony is that he was a fireman, one of the more dangerous jobs in the world

You`re sh*tting me? A sport where people reach for balls and a guy just casually falls over a waist-high railing down a gap to land on his head. Now I`m not a fan of health and safety but jesus wept, I bet they had a sweepstake going on when that would happen. Who won?

Did he die on-the-spot or in the hospital from injuries sustained?
